I don't normally watch superhero movies, either. I do enjoy the Taika Waititi version of Thor and Guardians of the Galaxy, though.

Snowpiercer is awesome. I'm anxious to watch the show. Jennifer Connolly seems perfectly cast. Side note: Koreans are fantastic at directing movies set on trains or with defining scenes set in hallways.

    Refering to?

Stunning film. Walked out of the theater and realized I hadn't released the tension in my shoulders in over an hour. Absolute travesty that it wasn't recognized more during awards season.

Thank you! This is the movie I am suppose to watch that I forgot the name of.

Per Sematary 2019 was absolute trash. I’m kind of pissed I wasted that much time of my day watching it.

The first Pet Sem comes with a funny memory for me. It was the first time I went out with the sister of a friend. Never forget her dad answering the door and going Chad isn't here with a puzzled look and Maria coming up behind him and going bye dad I'll be home by curfew and dragging me away. I had just enough time to see look of confusion turn to realization lol.

Similar note re: car chases—I also watched Romancing the Stone, a favorite 80s flick of mine. This scene with the Ford Bronco(a vehicle I still hope to own one day) is still pretty rad. Shooting the gap in that boss was and still is awesome.

  5. So I've gotten trapped on the old Highlander series lol. Loved the first movie but never had watched the series. Amazing how many actors/musicians were on this show. Joan Jett, Roger Daltry. It's cheesy early 90's but a good time so far.

Yup everyone in here denying that there’s an incentive for basketball players to go to Nike/Adidas schools...

    Told y’all

There is a difference to me when people are saying Little Timmy wore Nike's since the third grade, all his friends in HS wore Nike, he thinks Nike is cool, thus he is gonna choose this school to wear a Nike vs Nike just gave him 50K, a new car, and set his parents up in a house to go to X school that wears Nike.

Lot of those kid would go to a school that was sponsored by Crocs if the price was right. Should of just said we should go Nike cause they are buying players to schools they sponsor.

If SI is right it won't matter what we wear though. They believe we got one of those nice Louisville/Kansas letters from the NCAA and Auburn isn't denying it.

Not a fan tbh. My top two our brooks and Mizuno. I have a very flat arch so both of those provide me with stability without breaking my shins. IMO, Reebok, UA & Nike do no true justice for runners feet. They look very nice though.

Flat arch here also with some pronation. Brooks, Asics, and Saucony usually top the list for the flat footed.

I find it interesting that some of those who don't like ESPN injecting political themes into sports coverage are themselves injecting politics into which sports apparel company they'd prefer AU to go with.

This is about what's best for AU, IMO. Everyone should assess this question without personal agenda, as I see it. Not calling anyone out and not trying to be nasty or derail this thread, JMO.

Our contract with UA ends in the middle of 2025. That is 5 years of other companies designing/marketing (and others are catching/surpassed Nike in areas). Plus the likeness rule in effect that will change recruiting (least I feel it will).

Fun to discuss and speculate, but I feel like we will know what's best for AU in 2025 when we have/can make a move.

some of the posts on this page good grief

Oh just have some with it. You can't really think that Nike's politics wouldn't play an impact on if people from Auburn would want them as a sponsor. Seem like a smart guy. I know people that despise Nike cause they re-endorsed Micheal Vick. As a life-long dog owner I didn't like them cause of that move 9 years ago either.

I'm with many and don't think Nike is gonna turn us into North Carolina or Duke etc. Those programs earned their names on the court way before any of this shoe business. Kansas dumped Nike for Adidas and it isn't like they suck now. Ok State is a Nike school that made what 15 straight NCAA's under Sutton and have not been the same since he left. Is Gonzaga where they are cause of Nike or is it because Few built them and they have been able to keep him for 30 years.  So yes, I believe proper coach plus consistency > than shoe brand.

Like I said the entire recruiting model will probably be changed by 2024 (if not earlier) when the UA contract is up due to the NCAA changes regarding likeness. Will be a lot more out in the open forces to drive a player to X university than a shoe. Actually might be good that Auburn can't change sponsors until a couple years after that takes place.

For their teen popularity, Vans has actually been taking an increasing percentage of their market every year for the last few.

Real funny thing is that quality wise in clothing, the Reebok Dri-Fit stuff I have gotten from for $12 and 15 dollars at Sam's have been beasts even against Adidas and UA stuff the last couple of years.

I also suspect I will mostly be done with college sports and eagerly await NHL seasons by then also for the reasons Barkley mentions here (as it seems to be drifting more and more into college sports):

    https://www.nhl.com/video/nhl-tonight-charles-barkley/t-277350912/c-68445703

Also trying to play the AAU game has bitten us in the ass more than once. Reason our program has had the issues it had... thanks Komora lol.

The shoe companies have an extremely heavy hand in basketball recruiting and Bruce is fighting harder than he needs to just to be in position at the very end with these elite guys. As my bro @GwillMac6 said these shoe companies are steering kids towards colleges that are sponsored by said company via the AAU programs. With that kind of "help" under Bruce's guidance we really would become a basketball factory without affecting football's recruiting at all. We need to make this happen IMO

Only drawback with Nike in hoops is that our jerseys would take a step back lol. Hopefully by 2024 they're no longer making those track and field style jerseys when we can sign with them

By 2024 with the new likeness rules I suspect something other than a shoe brand will be what is driving kids to schools.

I just want a cheaper Polo than the UA stuff that I see and looks better.  When I can get logo Dry Fit shirts for work relatively inexpensive compared to UA gear.  I like my plain UA polos but the Dry Fit has come a long way.  So for me, I just want decent gear that doesn't cost an arm and leg.  If it helps recruiting then switch.  I don't wear either of the shoes from either company although my son swears by the UA shoes.  Nike shoes don't fit me well at all.  They are way too narrow.  But I don't hoop it up so there is that...I like a polo that I have made by UA but I have seen some dry fit that had some great designs.

Go to Sams. Nike/UA dry fit polo's show up there for like 30 dollars if you are looking for just a plain color. University logo is always going to cost 80 or more regardless of who it is.

At the end of the day, you can find ethical issues amongst almost every company.
    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.vox.com/platform/amp/the-goods/2018/11/7/18068378/under-armour-kevin-plank-workplace-culture

Under Armour is being accused of promoting a troubling workplace culture, after it was revealed that the sports apparel company used to allow some employees and executives to expense visits to strip clubs.”

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2019/11/04/business/under-armour-accounting-investigation/index.html

It’s really all about how well a company can mitigate the bad PR their bad practices make...I hope we don’t make any decisions under the guise that the multi-national, billion dollar corporation might be ethically perfect. Nike could be worse, but there’s a worthwhile correlation (in fashion/clothing) between size and griminess  and Nike happens to be bigger than UA. That’s all

Fair enough. Still stand by my original reason, my experience with Nike is the same that Zion Williamson had (split in the middle of a tourney and owned them for less than a month). I also see a difference in paying for strip club visits and emotionally and physically abusing a person.

I also do not like that they have entered the political realm to the extent they have, but their contracts with universities do not allow for polishing out of their logo.

If we switch we switch (not stuck on UA btw), but I won't pay for Nike.

There's no reason for them to not switch to Nike IMO. Superior company, superior designs, superior appeal to recruits, the only thing stopping them is the general complacency in our athletics program, but the recent past is showing me they're at least trying new things, so who knows.

I guess UA might make better workout gear??? Slap a check on it and it'll sell more though, and Auburn out of all colleges in this state should love that idea

No thanks. They have been under fire and investigation for the discrimination and abuse of women since 2017. They also have other gender lawsuits filed and pending with them. They are good at branding though, hypocrites, but really good at branding. Though this portion of why I won't nothing to do with them goes in the political area.

Their running shoes are pretty horrible

Same with soccer gear. Reason I have worn Copa's from Adidas since like the mid-80's. Lol hell, I still have a pair of the FX replaceable that the West.... Yes West (even says made in West Germany on the tongue) German national team used in the 90 Cup. I got like 4 packs of studs when I bought them. Still use them but it has to be really wet or pristine grass.

Pure running shoes I've mixed it up between Saucony and Brooks lately. Been pleased with both.

I think back in the day when Nike was solely the driving force . However, I think this now since there is so many other outlets to promote and become profitable . Honestly unless you are a huge brand , Nike can give you the 360 deal . I was watching the ball family speak about this . The fact that they never signed to a major company gives them 100 percent of the profit. Now , the climate is changing and the NCAA looks to be proposing ways to let these athletes profit on their likeness. If I am a five star recruit , this is what I would be doing tbh.

From what I saw it won't matter what Auburn does as the players will not be able to use anything associated with the university in the likeness bit. Universities still will hold their licensing rights and appearing in advertisement could make you an employee of the university.

See if I can find that article again.

Oh to be clear, they can do like a car advertisement for a local dealer. They just can't wear university apparel or use the name of the university.

    Something to look forward to.

The one I remember most from when it was still showing on NBC was the anime crossover one. Just completely original and awesome.

I think I remember that one. Damn I might have to go back now. Like you said it is only like 20 mins.

Been re-watching Community on Netflix. Barely watched it, if at all, for the first couple seasons, so most of that is new to me. It's actually like watching prequels. Seeing the relationships developing, seeing how these weird ass people got so weird, seeing the seeds of weirdness that would become some seriously tripped out TV in later seasons...

Anyway, it's a nice little 20-25 min bedtime snack. And definitely a little happy escapism to end these crazy days with.

I loved Community. Not sure if you have made it yet but the Fort episodes were my favorites.

    Handmaiden's tale was good.

I have been doing the super cleaning thing since I have had nothing better to do. I actually found an old thumb drive that has the paper I wrote on Handmaiden's tale while at Auburn. Like back when Great Books was still called Great Books.

I'm thinking of watching the series now that I have Hulu and then reading my paper. Think it would be interesting to see if after all this time if I still agree with myself.

  19. I dumped cable and picked up Hulu and CBS All Access.

Pretty sure the woman across the way thinks I am insane cause I use my max trainer alot when I binge. Ya, I guess that defeats part of the purpose of binging.

Anyway I did the 2 seasons of Star Trek Discovery and enjoyed them. It goes back to pre-Kirk when Pike was Captain. I am going to watch Picard now. See if I can get them all out of the way while free lol.

Odd thing I discovered while going back in Star Trek is that McCoy is credited with being an Ole Miss grad. Dammit Jim we produce SEC quality COEDS not football teams!
