AU64 10,122
Any fans of these events? I always loved T and F when at AU but the sport has changed so much....split teams going to various meets and relays, etc makes it's hard to even find the results, much less keep up with the individual athletes and how they do. Back in the day, most of the team was walk-ons and the coaches recruited kids from the ODK Cake race to run cross country. I had a couple friends who had walked on and the dual meets were fun...could see top SEC football players running the spints, etc. Most of the athletes were from Alabama or Georgia. I remember seeing one of the first 15 foot college pole vaulters...a guy from Florida. I'm far away from AU now but the sport just does not seem to be the same now. auclong 1
The meets college team participate in now are designed to have their members attain qualifying times for SEC and NCAA meets. The coaches pick and choose where they want their athletes o participate. You are right that it is n where close to what it was 30 years ago.
