This one worked with my Mac:

http://www.testmy.net/d_load.php

There are medium through largest file sizes to test it with. It will give you your test results and compare it with typical results from different types of connections (dial-up, ISDN, DSL, cable, etc.), then give you some text info at the bottom you can cut and paste anywhere.

I'm running on BellSouth DSL Lite. It's not a full DSL connection, but is always connected and is significantly faster than dial-up (but cheaper than full DSL or cable). Here are my results:

:::.. Download Stats ..:::

Connection is:: 1268 Kbps about 1.3 Mbps (tested with 579 kB)

Download Speed is:: 155 kB/s

Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/

Test Time:: Tue Apr 12 2005 07:33:48 GMT-0500

Bottom Line:: 23X faster than 56K 1MB download in 6.61 sec

Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 62.93 % of your hosts average (bellsouth.net)

So, I'm running about 23x faster than dial-up but only at about 62% of what full DSL with BellSouth would run.

I'm perfectly happy with my DSL lite service from BellSouth. I mean, yeah, I wouldn't turn down higher speed. But at $24.95 a month, I'm not complaining. Cable internet service up here is $50 with tax. No thanks.

At least you guys have the choice. All I have is a local phone comany offering 756/756 ADSL for $49.99 a month. Charter won't put in their service here.
