His personality traits - the narcissistic self promotion and illusions of personal superiority, his misogyny, his lack of empathy for others and his total lack of ethics were evident way before he became president. They exhibited in his personal life and his business dealings. Granted, some of these traits do tend to serve politicians in their profession, but that doesn't mean they weren't inherent in the man to start with. Or that there’s a difference in an otherwise normal person being somewhat narcissistic and someone with a narcissistic personality disorder. You do have a very good point, especially the last paragraph..... I am open to be wrong because overall its just a gut feeling overall... But to be a politician, you are basically declaring yourself to be a spokesman for the people you represent.... Sure the political speil is one thing, but before that, you would have to at some point believe that you can be the voice of hundreds,. Maybe thousands, and at a presidential level.... Millions!... This is beyond confidence, stepping deeply in narcissism..... To call Trump out on it?... Yeah pretty accurate, but I just think it can apply to any president and anyone who ran..... Trump dosent hide it, he just wears it.... Its sorta like the regional thing... An up norths F-off is a down souths bless your heart!

To your point, to be a successful politician one most have a very "healthy" ego. That's not the same as having a narcissistic personality disorder. (And just as an aside, there are professions - such as law enforcement, coaching, and politics that have more than their "normal" share of psychopaths. But that doesn't mean one has to be a psychopath in order to be a politician.) Regardless, Trump has exhibited narcissistic and psychopathic traits throughout his professional career and the power of the presidency has only made him worse. Just watch the videos from one of his more recent political rallies for examples.
