The short passing game is what stops crowding the box. If the box is less crowded, because the LBs have to respect the short passing game, the RB gets through the line of scrimmage, then it is the RB's talent (cutting, breaking tackles, etc.) that can turn a short gain into a long one.

Also if we would just take the route that Bama and Ole Miss have taken, we can run the RPO slant and neutralize the entire front 7.

That play works similar to the triple option in making up for a talent gap. Bama just doesn't have the gap so they either let a first round draft pick run it, throw it, or catch it every time.
