Tigermike 3,078
This may have already been posted/answered, but if so I missed it. My question is this, if AU & AU both play their first game on Sept 3, why did AUBURN start practice a week and a half sooner than Bama? Sept. 3– Georgia Tech at Auburn Sept. 3– MTSU at Alabama
Ravad 77
The Tide is starting a week later than rival Auburn because the schools operate on different calendars. Alabama starts fall classes on Aug.24 - a week later than Auburn's Aug. 17. And teams cannot have two-a-day practices once classes start. Each team will start the season on Sept. 3 after the NCAA limit of 29 practices. I was wondering about this myself & I just found this today. LegalEagle 22
What does your question have to do w/ Bammer? *grin* I think they have x number of days to get in x number of practices. Shula probably: 1. had last year's calendar and forgot to start on time. 2. needed some time alone. 3. needed to revise his resume. 4. is waiting for Croyle to get well. 5. is afraid to face MTSU, so he's waiting to practice until he has to. 6. --------------- you make the call! Tigermike 3,078
So, no one knows the reason for this?

Tigermike 3,078
Ravad, I found the answer. It is based on the academic calendar. It is because classes start earlier at Auburn. Therefore there is not as many opportunities for 2 practices a day. It is the number of practice opportunities before your first game, not days that decides when you can start.
