Auburn baseball is bringing back a familiar name with Scott Foxhall joining Butch Thompson's staff.

AUBURN, Alabama—A former player and assistant coach at Auburn who was most recently at Mississippi State where he helped the Bulldogs to the 2021 national title while being named the ABCA National Assistant Coach of the Year, Scott Foxhall is heading home to join Butch Thompson’s staff for the 2024 season. Foxhall will take on the role of Director of Player Development for the Tigers. He replaces Aaron Everett, who left to become the pitching coach at Jacksonville State.

"Scott Foxhall brings an abundance of experience to our player development position," Thompson said. "His recruiting connections span across the country and his familiarity with Auburn will allow him to hit the ground running. A large number of former Auburn players and baseball supporters who love our program are going to be excited to see Scott and his amazing family back on the Plains."

A 30-year veteran of college coaching, Foxhall has seen 60 of his pitchers selected in the MLB Draft, including 16 in the first 10 rounds of the draft. Fifteen of those 16 student-athletes Foxhall helped place in the first 10 rounds of the MLB Draft were undrafted prospects out of high school.

During his time in the dugout, Foxhall has tutored 24 All-American selections, 16 Freshman All-Americans and seen six pitchers earn conference Pitcher of the Year honors. He coached the ACC Pitcher of the Year (Brian Brown at NC State) and SEC Pitcher of the Year (Ethan Small at Mississippi State) in back-to-back seasons.

At Auburn with John Pawlowski and also the first season with Sunny Golloway, Foxhall moved to NC State for four seasons beginning in 2015. During his time with the Wolfpack, Foxhall helped the Wolfpack to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances and back-to-back appearances in NCAA Regional finals in 2017 and 2018. In all, 22 NC State student-athletes heard their names called in the MLB Draft, including 10 pitchers.

Foxhall’s appointment comes on the heels of Auburn naming Karl Nonemaker and Gabe Gross as associate head coaches for the program and bringing in former MLB pitcher Everett Teaford as the pitching coach.

With Foxhall coming in, that only strengthens what is already a very strong staff at Auburn. A former recruiting coordinator himself, Foxhall joins a staff that includes the current recruiting coordinator for the Tigers in Nonemaker and Thompson, who held that role earlier in his career as well. Recently, Auburn brought in former MLB pitcher Everett Teaford to work as the pitching coach alongside Thompson. Bringing in Foxhall gives the Tigers another veteran presence for the pitchers to lean on.

"I believe in coach Thompson and love the winning culture that he has restored for Auburn baseball," Foxhall said. "I'm ready to get to work helping one of the most respected coaching staffs in the country to continue to develop high-level men who are also high-level baseball players."

Props to biscuit and todd for getting this news out.   Y'all this may very well be the best staff, top to bottom, in all of college baseball.   There is no doubt in my mind that it is, by a large margin, the most humble and passionate staff in college baseball.   If you read the article and did the math, you know that Scott has averaged 2 pitching draftees EVERY year of his 30 years in coaching.   If Gonzo is healthy in 24, look out!!

I've seen a bunch of MSU fans on the college baseball subreddit bash him during the last two seasons as a pitching coach but I think he was scapegoated. To be fair most of them also blame Lemonis. This is a great hire. We know what Gonzo can do, would love for Allsup/Murphy/Crotchfelt/Herbeholtz to step up in the rotation. Look forward to this season.
