Duder 243
Go to google.com and search for the word "failure". We laughed for quite a while after we found this
Ranger12 53
What that?!!! Then it has Michael Moore underneath him. What gives? Got to admit that it is a little funny, even if I don't agree with it. Duder, if I did not know you, I would think you were one of those bitter liberals instead of a moderate. You are going to get all my conservative brethern on you.

ChattanoogaTiger 0
It may be "hilarius" but the result has obviously been programmed by Google. The word failure is not listed anywhere in the document and is certainly not a key word. Why does a mainstream entity like Google think this is proper thing to do? At least half the population are/were Bush supporters. I keep my personal political views out of the public domain and would think it prudent for business entities to also do so. I tried a Yahoo search and this same web site was 3rd

I looked at the HTML code for the page and the word "failure" is not in the META tags anywhere. Unless whomever with the White House built this site knows some other way to program things into search engines, this was done by Google. Still funny! Ranger12 53
Is there a chance, since it was third on Yahoo's site, that a hacker maybe got into the system and programmed it like that? If Google and Yahoo did not do it, how would they know that somebody else did it unless it was brought to their attention. Seeing how it is a search result and not their homepage or something like that, they may not know about it. Or they could know and not care. MDM4AU 338
It's called google-bombing. This one was done quite some time ago. A liberal website showed people how to do it and asked everyone to pass it on. Later, a conservative website tried the same thing with Michael Moore. Hence, his number 2 status . The liberals did theirs in the heat of the election. The conservatives did theirs after the election. There was a big discussion on here about it. Ranger12 53
Here is the answer I got from Google on how this happened and how their search engine works. Hi Craig, Thank you for your note. We understand your concern about the search results for this query. Please be assured that the order and contents of Google search results are completely automated. No one hand picks a particular result for a given search query, nor does Google ever insert jokes or send messages by changing the order of results. Occasionally, when a particular website is the subject of public attention, other sites begin linking to it. This may elevate its importance as gauged by our ranking software, which assigns a PageRank value based in part on who links to a given page. Higher ranking in Google results may lead to more awareness, which may lead to more links and so on. One side effect of not using an editorial viewpoint to determine the ranking of results is that anomalies occasionally occur. We view such occasions as opportunities for us to learn more about how the web works and how to improve our algorithms for all searches in the future. Regards, The Google Team
