Democracy in Afghanistan

..... the Pentagon made the same misjudgment about Afghanistan that it did about Iraq: it fatally underestimated the importance of ensuring security. The big winner was the Taliban, which is now mounting a resurgence.....

Another "Mission Accomplished"?

I'm confused. What do liberals want? Do they want us to "bring the troops home" and leave both of these places to fix things themselves, or do they want us to stay the course and commit fully to the people, money and resources needed to do the job right?

All it seems they want right now is to reserve the right to bitch and moan no matter what course we take.

What they want is for the US to pull out of both, then win the election. THEN go back to both and show the world that they care more than PRESIDENT George Bush.

Maybe if we'd actually FINISH a job instead of going in, dropping a few bombs and declaring victory. We didn't finish the job in Afghanistan because the Bush regime was so intent on invading Iraq. If we'd had an exit strategy (that's a plan on what to do after defeating the enemy for you Conservatives on the board) and had dedictaed our resources to that end instead of leaving Afghanistan to fend for themselves without a strong government in place, there wouldn't be turmoil in Afghanistan and the Taliban wouldn't be reasserting their hold over there. Of course, we have the same plan for Iraq, run out before election time next year and declare victory before Saddam has time to re-capture the throne and ruin the 2004 elections.
