Quentin Groves Named To Hendricks Award Watch List

Junior defensive end is one of 42 players on the preseason watch list.

June 21, 2006

AUBURN, Ala. - The Hendricks Foundation has announced that Auburn defensive end Quentin Groves has been named to the 2006 Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year Award Watch List. Groves is one of 42 defensive ends from around the country who have been nominated for consideration in the preseason.

Groves, who has also been named to the Bednarik Award Watch List, posted six sacks and eight tackles for loss while playing in all 12 games in 2005. Entering his junior season in 2006, the Greenville, Miss., native has totaled 13.5 sacks and 18 tackles for loss in 27 career games. He has also forced three fumbles.

The Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year Award is named in honor of college football's first three-time first-team All-American. Ted Hendricks played in the NFL for 15 years and 215 consecutive games. His career included four Super Bowl victories, eight Pro Bowl selections and induction into the College and Pro Football Halls of Fame. It is in the spirit of Ted Hendricks' aggressive style of play, winning attitude and determination that the Defensive End of the Year Award for college football's premier defensive end is presented.

On field performance, exceptional winning attitude, leadership abilities and contributions to school and community and academic preparedness are some of the criteria used to determine the award's winner. Candidates may represent any class (freshman through senior) and come from any recognized four-year NCAA accredited school. The candidate's primary position must be defensive end.

I agree with you there. I think Gunn was quietly our best DE last year, and expect him to do the same this year.
