Tommy Tuberville Named A Semifinalist For The George Munger Award

Auburn head football coach Tommy Tuberville has been named a semifinalist for the George Munger Award for College Coach of the Year, it was announced Wednesday by Maxwell Football Club President Ron Jaworski. Tuberville is included in a field of 15 candidates as selected by the Maxwell Football Club Advisory Committee.

Tuberville has guided Auburn to an overall record of 7-1 this season, including a 4-1 mark in Southeastern Conference games. The Tigers are ranked No. 7 nationally in the Associated Press, USA Today coaches and Harris Polls, and Auburn is ranked fifth in the latest BCS standings.

Auburn's season has been highlighted by a pair of come-from-behind victories over top 10 teams. Auburn scored a third-quarter touchdown, then held on to beat then-No. 6 LSU, 7-3, in Jordan-Hare Stadium Sept. 16. The Tigers scored the game's final 19 points during a 27-17 home victory over then-No. 2 Florida Oct. 14. Auburn shut out both teams during the second half.

With seven victories already this season, Auburn has clinched its seventh straight winning season and seventh straight bowl game appearance under Tuberville. The Tigers have the 12th-best record in all of NCAA Division I-A football since the year 2000 with a record of 62-22 (.738).

The Maxwell Football Club will announce the winner of the 18th George Munger Award via a press release in December. The formal presentation of the award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club's Awards Dinner, to be held March 2, 2007, at the Harrah's Entertainment Complex in Atlantic City, N.J.

Voting for the award by the Maxwell Football Club will begin on Nov. 3, and close on Dec. 1.
