Present from my wife

Okay, alot of you e-mailed or PM me wanting to see the present my wife got me. With a little help, I learned how to host a picture so all could see. I want to go on record as saying I was not real comfortable with doing that because I don't like to come off as bragging about my medals, because I actually feel like I don't deserve most of them because I was all doing what I was supposed to do when I was awarded them. I really could have done without the Purple Heart. Now, my wife did something awesome, but there are a couple of mistakes, but she did not know and I am not going to tell her. One of the ribbons is not mine (right side, red ribbon with two blue stripes), but it is an Air Force Combat Readiness medal that an Air Force buddy of mine received before he passed away. I am just going to leave it as it is as a way to honor him. Also the signal crest from my National Guard duty is upside down. Lastly, the LRRP tab of course is not mine, because that is a Vietnam era only thing. The LRRPs was what the current 75th Ranger Regiment developed into. I had gotten that tab from a Vietnam Vet that was a Sgt. Major in the 75th for posterity puposes, but my wife, thinking everything in my little box was mine, put it in there, so I will just say it is a tribute to the men that came before. Oh yeah, I was a Specialist when I got out, but I did not have a matching pair of brass ranks for Specialist, so she used my old PFC rank which was cool with me seeing how that was the rank I performed most of my duty as. The picture is the one you take during boot camp and I am glad she used that one instead one of my Ranger pictures because it symbolizes the beginning of my career and everything around it is what was done from that point on. She did not mean it to work out that way, because the reason she did not use one of my Ranger pictures is because they are in areas where I would have noticed they were missing, whereas my boot camp picture was in my son's room and I did not notice it was missing. It all worked out in the end. All you dudes need to give your wifes a big hug and kiss today, because my wife rocks!

Hmmm... I don't know what happened to it. I am using Ofoto, so it is probably their crappy thing.

Al, the SF tab is mine. If I would have did the frame myself, I probably would not have put the SF tab in there because I not offically SF qualified. But seeing how I did receive equivelent training because of the various SF operations I was involved in, I did not really have a problem with it being in there. When I was attached to the 3rd SF group for an operation in Africa, we all wore the tab during that time. We received SF training for that operation, but that is the only time we were authorized to wear the tab. After being re-assigned back to HQ at Benning, all us "officially" non-qualified SF personnel took the tab off. . You will also notice that the ribbon on the top left is actually not a ribbon awarded by the Army, but instead of the Marines. It is the Marine Combat Action Ribbon. There is a good long story behind that. Medals crossing branches does not happen often, but that was one of the times it did.

Thanks Al.

Very impressive ranger, and I don't know what half that stuff is.

Thanks, but actually not as impressive as a few other guys I know. Since TA was with a SF group for a little while, he probably knows quite a few of those guys also.

Heck I even forgot what a couple fo them were for and have to get my papers out to see. The medal on the left, The Disinguised Service Medal (red, white, blue striped), has a funny story to it. I was given that medal after I got out of the military. Apparently I was to have gotten it while i was in , but some kind of papework got lost somewhere along the way (like that has never happened with the government  ) and I never got it. Well, back in 2000, my folks got a call from Senator Bud Cramer's office and they were looking for me. So, I had to go up to his locals office at the Morgan County Courthouse, not knowing what they had for me. I got there and since Senator Cramer was not in at that time, they had a probate judge officially give it to me. I laughed all the way home.

Thanks for the help with bringing up the image TA. I finally grasped what you were saying to do. Right click over "user posted image" ,then click "copy image location", and then past to your address bar. Any of you techies know why it is showing up like that?

Very nice, Ranger. Thanks for protecting our country, and thanks to all our vets.

I ended my career with only three awards. The SMCR (Selected MC Reserve, which is basically the Good Cookie for reservists), the National Defense Service, and a MUC (Marine Unit Commendation). I was never as proud, however, as when I earned my blood stripes on my blues.

Semper Fi!

Thank you for your service also. Reserves are the backbone of our military these days. I actually was awarded a couple of ribbons from my two years in the National Guard, but they go misplaced somewhere along with the papework. I never took the time try to get request the proper paperwork to ge them replaced. I think one of them had something to de with our CE section being one of the most "efficient" of all the signal units or something like that. Some of you other Army reservists or Guard members may know more about that.

That totally rocks. That will be the kind of heirloom your kids and all future grandkids, etc. will be so thrilled to have. Thanks for all you have done.
