AUSportTalk 4
AUBURN HEAD COACH JOHN PAWLOWSKI On the Auburn Regional… “Obviously it is an exciting day for Auburn Tiger baseball. It was great to see our name come up on the board. If you look at the teams across the country, and certainly in our Regional, it is going to be tough. That’s what this time of year is about. You look at the three teams in our Regional and we have a great challenge in front of us.†On having Clemson in the same Regional… “(Clemson Coach Jack) Leggett gave me my first opportunity to coach college baseball and I can’t say enough about that, but when it comes down to it, we know that our guys have to play well regardless of who we play. It is certainly a great regional.†On facing Clemson while he was at the College of Charleston… “We were never fortunate to beat Clemson. They have a great program, and rightfully so. Coach Leggett has done a great job there.†On facing Jacksonville State in the first game… “We faced them one time (this year) and it was a real good ballgame (Auburn won, 9-7). That gives us a chance to go back now and look through our notes and review the tapes. Now we can start going to work. The assistants will go back and start compiling a scouting report. There is a lot of work to be done before Friday.†JR. IF HUNTER MORRIS On hosting a NCAA Regional… “This is exciting. You always want to host and play in front of your own fans and sleep in your own beds. There is no down-side to any of it. They paired us with some good teams in Clemson, Southern Miss and Jacksonville State. The only one we have seen so far is Jacksonville State but it will be a fun regional.†On playing in a home regional as the team’s first regional in his career… “That’s a good way to first experience this. We haven’t been to the post-season for a while. We got our feet wet in the SEC Tournament. To be at home, no matter how many fans show up, most of them will be pulling for us. It is going to be exciting and I am very thankful that we can do it at home.†JR. LHP GRANT DAYTON On playing in a Regional… “This is huge for us. We have worked all season and it is finally paying off. We have a lot of work to go but we are glad to be able to host and play in front of our home crowd.†On preparing for the weekend… “I am going to keep things simple, keep it the same. I will prepare the same, keep my body in shape and be ready to go for whatever day I have to pitch. It’s just another day at the office.†On watching the announcement… “We talked about (who would be in the Auburn Regional), but we were all wrong. We didn’t know what two seed was going to come here and it turns out to be Clemson. That is really exciting.†
IManAUBURNlifer 0
I know our regional got paired with the Georgia Tech regional. If a lower seed wins the Tech Regional, I'm assuming we would host the Super Regional, correct? And thanks ST for the quotes. Much appreciated. WarAmericanEagle 0
Yes we would host if Tech gets beat and we win our regional. It would be nice if they did get beat and we made it to host a Super Regional but I dont think Tech will lose their regional.
