New Construction on Auburn University’s Campus
August 28, 2018  by Marlena Mumma

Auburn University has to keep up with a growing student and faculty population.

Within the past 5 to 6 years, the Engineering and Business school have seen major growth, making it the two largest colleges on campus.

“When you look around, it’s exciting to see the cranes on campus. Lots going on from the academic side on campus,” said Dr. Bill Hardgrave, Provost & VP of Academic Affairs.

$40 million going into the new 100,000 sq. ft. classroom and meeting space for their new graduate business building.

“This new building will be all about the new ways they are delivering education,” said Dr. Hardgrave.

$44 million for the new 123,000 sq. ft. student achievement center for the Engineering college.

“This new building will have an innovation floor with makers space, it will have a lot of space for social breakout rooms and classrooms,” said Dr. Hardgrave.

Both set to open in Spring or Summer 2019.

And it doesn’t stop there. President Steven Leath has vowed to hire 500 more faculty members within the next five years.

So, Auburn University has plans to build more classrooms, labs and offices for those future employees.

“I talked about the graduate Business building and the Engineering Student Achievement Center neither are faculty oriented, but as we grow, we have to build some of those buildings that will house our faculty,” said Dr. Hardgrave.

Also in the works, the Delta Airlines Aviation Education Building. It’s a partnership between Delta airlines supporting the university’s aviation program out at the airport.

Also, the S. College parking deck that will bring more parking for students and staff.

More campus housing is in the works.

Plus the Poultry Center, Recreation Fields, Leach Science Center are under construction. Plus, the Board of Trustees approved demolishing the Parker, Allison Hall near the stadium to build more classrooms and labs.

SIAP

As someone working towards their M.A. with aspirations to work for Auburn University... this is amazing!

To tie it into football, you have to think that these major improvements and new buildings are going to help with recruiting and morale! There is just something awesome about watching new buildings and projects popping up while you're going to school. It makes you proud and excited to see the place that you love continue to grow!

War Eagle and big BOOM to Leath.

Maybe they will spell Delta Air Lines correctly by the time the building goes up.
