  1. I'd like to revoke my past defense of Dan Creshaw being mocked by SNL. Crenshaw is definitely worthy of being mocked. When I'm wrong, I'll admit I'm wrong. I was definitely wrong about Crenshaw. I'm embarrassed of this thread.
  2. hmmm..... I know it's been reported that ASU has had NCAA issues regarding recruiting but Hill's name has never been mentioned publicly as being linked to any violations. ASU put 3 assistants coaches on administrative leave earlier this year. DB coach Chris Hawkins, WR coach Prentice Gill, and TE coach Adam Brenemen. The recruiting coordinator at ASU is Antonio Pierce, who is also the DC. I can't read the article since it's VIP and I don't subscribe to any pay site. Perhaps the compliance department is being overly cautious and they're still reviewing any issues with Hill. Just because it's hit a 'snag' does that mean he's been taken out of the running? Until there's public confirmation that someone else is the leading candidate, I'm going to assume Hill is still in play.
  3. Louisiana Lafayette won the Sun Belt championship game today over Appalachian State 24-16. Napier's not going to coach the bowl game so he finishes 12-1 his last year at ULL. This is Lafayette's first 12 win season in school history.
  4. Some are going to try and spin it but we're still going to be running the same offense under Zak Hill. Nothing really changes. Hill will call some different plays than Bobo but the schemes are going to be the same. We're still running Harsin's offense. This is like blaming Chad Morris, Rhett Lashlee, or Chip Lindsay for our offensive problems under Gus when they all ran his offense with just a few different wrinkles and variations from each of them. The offense never really changed no matter who the OC was.
  5. It's going to probably be like it was at Boise in 2019. Zak Hill and Eric Kiesau are going to be Co-OC.
  6. Mike Bobo had a three year deal for $3.9 million, $1.3 million annually.
  7. Everyone realizes that it wasn't going to be a quick fix. But if you're rebuilding a program, you don't rebuild it with the 11th/12th best recruiting class in the SEC that's ranked in the 30's.
  8. Napier got's the best talent in the Sun Belt comparative to all the other teams in the conference but we're still talking about mostly 2* and a few 3* players. He's not taking SEC level talent and barely beating other teams in the Sun Belt. This notion that he should be blowing everyone in the Sun Belt out 40-7 each week or else that proves he's not a good coach are ridiculous. They beat Iowa State last year who finished in the top 10 last year. If he wasn't a good coach they wouldn't have won that game. He's had unprecedented success at Louisiana. He's built that program.
  9. UGA's offenses haven't blown people away since Kirby's been there. This year their defense has been at an elite level and have allowed their offense to just bludgeon teams and wear them down and pull away in games giving them lopsided wins. Louisiana's offense has scored at least 31 ppg each year under Napier. They currently have the 13th best defense in the country giving up 18.5 ppg. Louisiana beat Liberty 42-14 two weeks ago. That was the worst loss Liberty's had this year. Ole Miss beat Liberty 27-14 despite having a highly touted offense under Lane Kiffin.
  10. Except Pruitt had never been a college HC when Tennessee hired him. Not apples to apples. Napier's likely more of a Kirby Smart/Mario Cristobal type guy. It's how you run a program, not just being a recruiter. Napier is much more established and knows how to run a program. His track record is much more proven than other former HC's in the SEC that were hired with very little college HC experience. Hugh Freeze was at Arky St for 1 year, then was hired at Ole Miss. Gus was at Arky St for 1 year then we hired him. Napier has proven at Louisiana that he has a system. It's not entirely dependent on coordinators. He lost his OC/o-line coach from last year Rob Sale who went to the NFL. In fact, Napier has 6 new assistants on his staff this year and still went 11-1.
  11. Businessman pleads guilty in $25M extortion attempt of Matt Gaetz’s father By JOSH GERSTEIN 11/22/2021 06:10 PM EST A Florida businessman pleaded guilty Monday to involvement in an effort to extort $25 million from the wealthy father of Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) as part of a bizarre scheme that involved a pledge to secure a presidential pardon for Gaetz in the high-profile federal sex trafficking investigation the lawmaker faces. Stephen Alford, 62, appeared in federal court in Pensacola to plead guilty to one count of wire fraud in connection with the convoluted shakedown, which also included securing the release of Robert Levinson, a former FBI agent who disappeared in Iran in 2007. During the hearing, U.S. Magistrate Judge Elizabeth Timothy recommended that Alford’s guilty plea be accepted. Alford, of Fort Walton Beach, faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 at his sentencing, set for Feb. 16 before U.S. District Court Judge M. Casey Rodgers. Defendants typically get a sentence far below the maximum, but Alford could face a stiff prison term because he has prior federal convictions for fraud. After being approached about the alleged pardon deal earlier this year, Matt Gaetz’s father Don went to the FBI. Agents helped the elder Gaetz, a wealthy former Florida state senate leader, record meetings with Alford and others involved in the caper. Alford allegedly said he could “guarantee” a pardon for Matt Gaetz, who is the focus of an ongoing investigation into allegations that he and his associates had sex with underage girls and paid women for sex through online sites catering to so-called “sugar daddies.” How, if at all, Alford hoped to get a pardon from President Joe Biden for one of former President Donald Trump’s most vocal supporters has never been clear. A court filing Monday says Alford admitted that he lied about having such assurances. In one letter to Don Gaetz, Alford wrote: “The team has been assured by the President that he will strongly consider such matters because he considers the release of Robert Levinson a matter of national urgency.” However, Alford told FBI agents in April that statement was “a lie,” the statement of facts submitted in connection with the guilty plea says. “Alford’s fraudulent scheme was thus making materially false promises to obtain millions of dollars from DG, although Alford knew he could not ’guarantee’ a pardon for DG’s family member,” the statement said. In a tweet posted before the plea hearing Monday, Matt Gaetz faulted the Justice Department for not charging others who allegedly worked with Alford on the scheme. “Alford wasn’t acting alone. DOJ is having him take the fall to protect their own,” the congressman said. Matt Gaetz has not been charged in the ongoing DOJ investigation into his actions, but a once-close associate — former Seminole County Tax Collector Joel Greenberg — is cooperating with prosecutors after pleading guilty in May to sex trafficking of a minor. The lawmaker has denied wrongdoing. https://www.politico.com/states/florida/story/2021/11/22/businessman-pleads-guilty-in-25m-extortion-attempt-of-matt-gaetzs-father-1394858
  12. A lot of Stanford's best defensive players when Mason was at Stanford 2010-2013 were already there when he got there. These were the upperclassmen that were the leaders on defense when he was DC at Stanford in 2011-2013 Shayne Skov Chase Thomas Jarek Lancaster Trent Murphy Michael Thomas Ben Gardner All those players were in the 2008 and 2009 classes for Stanford. Mason recruited none of them. Almost the same story at Vandy. Mason's best defenses statistically at Vandy were 2015 and 2016. Both of those defenses in 2015 and 2016 were led by upperclassmen that were already at Vandy when Mason was hired. The best defensive player at Vandy during Mason's tenure was LB Zach Cunningham. He was part of the 2013 class recruited by James Franklin. Once most of James Franklin's recruits were gone, Vandy's defenses regressed from 2017-2020. Mason should get credit for being a good DC at Stanford and having a couple of good defenses at Vandy. But his recruiting ability is more unproven than his defensive coaching ability. His best defenses have largely been with players he didn't recruit.

  14. 'This was an intentional act': $5 million bail set for suspect in Waukesha Christmas Parade tragedy Posted: Nov 23, 2021 10:45 AM CST | Updated: Nov 23, 2021 8:15 PM CST WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The man accused of plowing through the Waukesha Holiday Parade route, killing six and injuring dozens more, made his first court appearance Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 23. The driver has been identified as 39-year-old Darrell Brooks from Milwaukee. Police arrested Brooks near the scene. Officers say he was involved in a domestic disturbance somewhere else before he drove through the parade route. Brooks is charged with five counts of first degree intentional homicide, which carry possible life sentences. He is currently being held on $5 million bond. Waukesha District Attorney Susan Opper requested the $5 million cash bail citing the severity of the charges and Brooks' criminal history. "He has arrest records across three states, to include Wisconsin, Nevada and Georgia," Opper said. Over the last two decades, Brooks has had at least 12 convictions. There is currently a warrant for his arrest in Nevada for failing to comply with sex offender registry requirements. Police say just three weeks ago, in Milwaukee County, Brooks ran over a woman he has a child with. His bail was set at just $1,000, which he paid before being released. Now, the Milwaukee District Attorney's Office is conducting an internal review. They say the bail was set "inappropriately low." "The nature of this offense is shocking," said Court Commissioner Kevin Costello. "The detail I was not expecting here today -- that two detectives, not lay people, detectives -- not only tried to stop this, but rendered an opinion that this was an intentional act. I've not seen anything like this in my very long career." Brooks cried in court Tuesday as he faced charges that would send him to prison for the rest of his life, but the criminal complaint paints a picture of a man who acted deliberately and without emotion as he plowed down his victims, including children and the elderly. Wearing a suicide prevention smock, rocking back and forth in his seat, Brooks made his first court appearance as several members of the victims' families sat just feet away from him. "There are not words to describe the risk that this defendant presents to our community," Opper said. A criminal complaint says law enforcement attempted to stop Brooks numerous times before he struck multiple parade participants and spectators Sunday evening, Nov. 21. The complaint says a detective working traffic control for the Waukesha Christmas parade near White Rock Avenue and E. Main Street saw the red Ford Escape driving southbound just after 4:30 p.m. as people jumped out of the way. The detective stepped in front of the vehicle, pounded on the hood and yelled multiple times "stop," but the SUV continued driving, turning westbound on E. Main Street. The detective then went to the driver's side window and pounded on the door, again yelling at the driver, later identified as Brooks, to stop. The complaint says Brooks drove past the detective and into the parade procession. The detective chased the vehicle as he saw the vehicle begin to drive faster. While driving westbound on E. Main Street, the complaint says Brooks struck numerous pedestrians, including parade participants and spectators located on the side of the street. Another officer assisting with crowd control in the area of E. Main Street and N. East Avenue saw the SUV around 4:38 p.m. and began attempting to get Brooks' attention. He put his hand up and yelled "stop the vehicle" multiple times. The complaint says the the officer saw Brooks looking straight ahead, directly at him, and it appeared he had "no emotion on his face." When the vehicle approached the intersection of E. Main Street and NW Barstow Street, prosecutors say Brooks rapidly accelerated, taking an abrupt left turn into the crowd of participants. At this point, the complaint says officers realized this was an intentional act to strike and hurt as many people as possible. An officer on scene reported the vehicle appeared to be intentionally moving side to side, striking multiple people. One officer continued to chase the vehicle on foot as multiple people reportedly pulled at him, asking for assistance with injured parties. Another officer shot at the suspect vehicle, striking it three times. Investigators spoke with a witness who indicated that the driver drove in a zig zag motion, as if "trying to avoid vehicles, not people." Another witness told authorities they felt it was a "direct intent to hit as many parade participants." The district attorney says she intends to file a sixth count of first degree intentional homicide after learning 8-year-old Jackson Sparks died from his injuries. The cause of death for five of the victims was determined to be multiple blunt force injuries -- the sixth has yet to be announced. The six victims killed have been identified as: Virginia Sorenson, 79 Leanna Owen, 71 Tamara Durand, 52 Jane Kulich, 52 Wilhelm Hospel, 81 Jackson Sparks, 8 Prosecutors say 62 other people were hurt, some of them critically. Brooks will be back in court Jan. 14 for a preliminary hearing. 15. Napier is my #1 choice although it may be too late now even if we pull the plug on Harsin. We should have hired Napier last year. Now he's a hot commodity and we'd have to pay even more for him this year than what he wanted last year. https://www.aufamily.com/forums/topic/174224-welcome-to-the-plains-coach-harsin-merged/?do=findComment&comment=3328551 According to WarDamnEagleWDE, Napier wanted $6 million and we passed on him last year. I'd be willing to bet it's going to take $7 million this year to land Napier since multiple big name SEC schools have him as a target. Jimmy Sexton is Napier's agent. So Napier is going to get $$$ whoever lands him this year.
  16. He must be charismatic enough in recruiting to have the #1 Sun Belt classes each year. Louisiana didn't have #1 Sun Belt classes before Napier. He's literally built that program. This is the type of crap arguments that drive me crazy with this fanbase. We're never going to hire a great coach because the fanbase doesn't want to. Harsin can't recruit in the SEC. He's not going to turn this around if he can't recruit at a high level. He recruited at Boise because Boise was already a brand and was built by Chris Petersen. Recruiting at Boise was easier. The same people saying that didn't want Kirby Smart back in 2012 are the same fans making excuses for whoever our current HC is because the SEC is tough now because of Kirby building a powerhouse at UGA. If you don't want to face these guys as competition, why didn't you want to hire them to keep that from happening?
  17. Josh Heupel at Tennessee has done a miraculous job. After they beat Vandy next week they'll finish 7-5, possibly 8-5 if they win their bowl game. They had a mass exodus of their top players last year. Both their RB's transferred. Ty Chandler transferred to North Carolina, Eric Gray transferred to Oklahaoma. Their best LB Henry To'o To'o transferred to Bama. Tennessee only had 2 returning starters on offense and 5 returning starters on defense from a team that went 3-7 last year. The talent excuse for Harsin is unacceptable. Both South Carolina and Tennessee were in worse situations than we are yet they have the same 6-5 record as us. South Carolina just beat us with a Div 3 transfer QB who was their 3rd string earlier this season. It's coaching........
  18. The offense didn't play well but they had a 14-0 lead. The turning point in the game was the 4th and 1 call. It was a bad play call. But the decision to go for it on our own 35 was a gamble and gave South Carolina all the momentum. Harsin shouldn't have gone for it. That was Harsin's decision and he should get most of the blame. Bobo called a bad play but it wouldn't have happened unless Harsin had decided to punt instead of going for it. Our offense outplayed South Carolina's statistically. It was the 4th and 1 decision that came back to haunt us. It gave South Carolina a short field to tie the game before halftime and flipped the game.
  19. I don't see Harsin fixing the program. You need better players to run the schemes he wants to run but you've got to be able to recruit at a high level so you can get those players. So far Harsin and his staff don't seem capable of recruiting well enough to fix things. It shouldn't take 3 years just to get the recruiting up in the top 20. As I stated earlier, both Chizik's 2010 class and Malzahn's 2014 class were top 10. It didn't take them 3 years to get recruiting at high level. I hope the ptb pull the plug after next week. We can't afford to let the 2023 class be a repeat of the 2022 class and keep falling further and further behind. I disagree with 23 that we should get Kiffin. I don't want to pay big money to get Kiffen because his recruiting this year has been surprisingly down. Plus his in game coaching decisions are not very good and like others have stated have cost the team games. I wanted him last year, Billy Napier at Louisiana. He can recruit. He develops players. We should have hired him last year. According to WarDamnEagleWDE, we didn't get him because he wanted more money than what we ended up paying Harsin. Yet it now looks like we wasted money on Harsin instead of paying a little more for guy we know who can recruit. I don't want to see Napier at LSU. We don't need Napier going to LSU and doing what Kirby's doing at UGA.
  20. At least 5 dead, over 40 injured after SUV slammed into Wisconsin Christmas parade; 'person of interest' in custody CHRISTOPHER KUHAGEN , MARY SPICUZZA , MOLLY BECK , CELINA TEBOR | Milwaukee Journal Sentinel MILWAUKEE — At least 5 people are dead and over 40 people are injured when an SUV sped through a barricade and into a Christmas parade in suburban Milwaukee Sunday, officials confirmed. Waukesha authorities confirmed the deaths in a statement late Sunday. Police said the numbers could change as many people transported themselves to hospitals. The City of Waukesha posted to its Twitter and Facebook accounts revised casualty totals. "At this time, we can confirm that 5 people are deceased and over 40 are injured," the statement said. "However, these numbers may change as we collect additional information." Earlier, authorities said 11 adults and 12 children were ferried to local hospitals. Others were taken by friends and family. Children's Wisconsin hospital said it had 15 patients and no fatalities. Waukesha Police Chief Dan Thompson said the investigation was ongoing, but that a “suspect vehicle” was recovered and that there is a person of interest in custody at the moment. Some of the injured were taken by police to hospitals, and others were taken by family members, Thompson said, describing the incident as "very tragic" and "very chaotic."He declined to give the exact number of deceased individuals, citing the need to notify next of kin first. The incident occurred during one of the city's biggest and most cherished annual events as the red SUV barreled down the street, plowing into parade participants. Videos posted to social media, including a live feed of the parade operated by the City of Waukesha, show a red SUV breaking through barriers and speeding into the roadway where the parade was taking place. A police officer fired gunshots at the SUV in an attempt to stop it, Thompson said, and no bystanders were injured by the gunfire. He said police don't believe any shots were fired from the SUV. In the city’s footage, taken from a distance, the SUV speeds into the parade just behind a school marching band. A reporter at the scene said that a red SUV came barreling down the street, and the crowd could hear the thuds as it struck people, leaving many on the ground. Corey Montiho, a Waukesha school district board member, said his daughter's dance team was hit by the SUV. "They were pom-poms and shoes and spilled hot chocolate everywhere. I had to go from one crumpled body to the other to find my daughter," he said. "My wife and two daughters were almost hit. Please pray for everybody. Please pray." "My family is safe but many are not. I held one little girl's head in my hand, she was seizing and she was bleeding out of her ears. I held her mother as she collapsed. Please pray.” The Waukesha School District announced on Facebook that all public schools will be canceled on Monday. Thompson said it's unknown if the incident is connected to terrorism. Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers said he and his wife, Kathy, were "praying for Waukesha tonight and all the kids, families, and community members affected by this senseless act." Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow, who was at the parade but left just before the incident, called it "an unspeakable tragedy, affecting us all as we work to overcome an extremely challenging two years and resume our cherished holiday traditions." The parade is sponsored by the city's Chamber of Commerce. This year's edition was the 59th of the event that's held each year the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Waukesha is a western suburb of Milwaukee, and about 55 miles north of Kenosha, Wisconsin, where Kyle Rittenhouse was acquitted Friday of charges stemming from the shooting of three men during unrest in that city in August 2020. Contributing: Cathy Kozlowicz and Kaylee Staral, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel; The Associated Press https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2021/11/21/waukesha-christmas-parade-suv-wisconsin/8714413002/ There were barricades up and the street was closed off. It's going to be hard to believe that this wasn't intentional in some way. I'm hoping this wasn't some kind of retaliation for the Rittenhouse verdict.
  21. Harsin fired Cornelius Williams after only 4 games. The WR's have performed better than they did in the first 4 games but how much of that improvement is just because they've gotten more reps and experience? We've seen coordinators fired here in the middle of the season(Tony Franklin in 2008)but position coaches are usually given more time. The o-line coach that Florida fired 2 weeks ago along with the DC Todd Grantham had been the o-line coach at Florida since 2018. IMO, Harsin is in over his head. He didn't hire a good staff in order to recruit at a top level. Chizik's 2010 class and Malzahn's 2014 class were both top 10 after their 1st full seasons. A few weeks ago we were 6-2 and ranked #13 before the A&M game but that didn't seem to help us in recruiting. Why is that? The 2022 class has been sitting in the 30's. Now that the losses are starting to pile up, it's going to be harder for us to finish strong with this class and move up into the top 20. There's a good chance we're going to be 6-6 or 7-5 next year. If our 2023 class isn't borderline top 10 then Harsin should be Moorheaded. Joe Moorhead wasn't a good fit at MSU and I don't think Harsin is going to be a good fit here unless he dramatically improves in recruiting, which is hard to see happening.
  22. You must not have looked that closely at the notes. MSU was 5-1 ranked #9 against a 3-3 unranked Auburn team. The score was 21-17. But other than that great job comparing 6-3 ranked #17 Auburn blowing a 25 point lead against a 5-4 unranked MSU team.
  23. Rittenhouse was acquitted not because he was white but because the evidence overwhelmingly supported the case for self defense.
