  1. You sure this is not still spring training?
  2. Apparently not the way things are going with football transfers.....His HC getting fired is about as good a reason as any for a guy wanting to transfer. New coach is likely to find himself with a roster of walk-ons.. This free transfer rule is likely to be a real factor for any school firing their coach......unless they are able to get some marquee coach and even then, some guys might not stick around long enough to see the results.
  3. Understandable......interesting that much of the SC coast looks the same. First saw that pic and it reminded me of the marsh walk south of Myrtle Beach at Murrells Inlet where about half a dozen seafood/pubs are linked by the boardwalk and overlook a creek and salt marsh. Also reminded me that it's time to get back down there again.
  4. Outstanding....tell us again why you are considering to move?
  5. Great picture …../they know how to do parks and fountains in Savannah.... ..St Paddy's day has always been a big event down there.
  6. Beautiful day and venue....it's great to be among the 1% ain't it.... Hard to beat the salt marsh coastline of South Carolina.
  7. Roc Thomas arrested in Minnesota on weed charges....large enough quantity to be a felony.....Amazingly, al.com made scant mention of his AU connection in the article. Vikings management very unhappy...as expected.
  8. Maybe...… If you note that much of that depth is in the form of freshmen and sophs….how can you declare them as "low quality" before they have even been on the field? All were deemed to be good recruit when we signed them.....and for the young guys, I'd like to see how they pan out for a couple years before declaring them as having no useful role at AU.
  9. Understandable....spent an hour a few afternoons watching other kids dance ...just waiting on our two dancers to appear for about 10 minutes.....and then wait another hour for the event to end so we could give them a bunch of flowers. Only had a couple years of that until fortunately the dance turned into theater dance/musicals and we gotten to see some very good performances in recent years. Come to think of it, the musicals were better than standing around on a cold day watching little knots of kids trying to get the ball clear of the mob so that someone could take a shot …..and parents along the sidelines shouting at their mostly mystified kids to get involved Unlike the parents.....as grandparents we were not invested in the success of the kids.. .just enjoyed bragging about them after the event.
  10. Great for her... and you. My little grandkid soccer players did not have much success...and turned to dance and theater.....at which they have been much more successful.....and it is inside viewing for the grand parents. ..
  11. lots easier to be a grandparent.... visit 'em, .love 'em and leave 'em. ....
  12. My daughter and her girls have been involved with Community and Children's Theaters for many years...youngest started at age 5 has been in six productions of Wizard of Oz (six years) starting as a poppy or something and working up to speaking roles... and the older one was in four or five productions and has been a wardrobe coordinator for three seasons. Youngest has been in a dozen plays, Lion King a couple time and a couple Christmas programs. We try to make one a year at least. My daughter explained.....if you had grandsons playing sports you would be attending important games......so dance and theater are "our sports". though we now have a pretty good HS tennis player to watch. https://ctgso.org/ctg_shows/wizard-of-oz/
  13. Not sure many people thought it was "no big deal"....but what was done was done... and no point griping about it; In football we lost KJ ….who IMO made a huge difference in our offense....but did not see people moaning all season about "if we had not lost KJ., etc. etc. ". Instead, we just blamed the HC for the lousy offense and for not having an equivalent replacement(s) ready.
  14. Very true but I think in basketball, because of the small number of players on the court at any time, a serious weakness is much more exploitable...and perhaps more easily repaired with the right person coming in to shore things up.
  15. Daughter graduated HS there and went to UNCG ....was away for a few years and then back. I'm amazed at the changes fromwhen I lived there in the 1980s but we are there frequently and are impressed at the things our grand daughters are involved in...music, dance, theater, etc. Nice lakes in the area and neighboring Virginia...and close to the mountains if you like cooler weather and lower humidity in the summer. But it's a distance from Alabama for certain. My family lived in the Mobile area but I married an NC girl.... so once I ended up in NC, distance became moot...whether Greensboro or Charlotte….everything was a pretty long drive to Mobile but wife's family was in Wilmington....just far enough away for everyone to get along well.
  16. Still considering Greensboro? You'd like it....I think it is a good young family town....
  17. You been there long enough to make it to Savannah for St Paddy's day ? . Lived there as a kid and the parade was a big event for us....my sister's birthday..... never got to try the green beer.
  18. I recall Montgomery... but I don't give that recruitment any credit if you read a little about it. He was committed 6 days...or maybe seven before bailing out the same day Chuck Person incident was made public. We don't know what the story was but strikes me as questionable ....guess he was brought in by Chuck and / or maybe the family was contacted by the FBI ….who knows....but that's it. He was listed at a bit over 200 pounds and is not a "banger" and has had modest playing time at UK. Would have been nice to have him but JMO, once UK and Duke got more interested he was likely gone anyway...picked UK over duke and UNC. . SO....we have AW and no backup for him last two seasons, this year or in next year's class. BP does not have much of a history with big inside men and could be that hurts in trying to get a top guy.....so probably we need to get a couple less stellar recruits and develop them over a couple years...maybe some foreign players or whatever works...JMO
  19. plus Grimes is not anywhere near a top paid OL coach ...last I saw was in the same range as our other assistants....and see he is way down the list among Div 1 coaches in terms of salary. .Makes a lot of money by real world standards but not by college standards FWIW
  20. JMO…..but he doesn't even need to be a scorer.....need rebounding and some put backs…..and play some defense. Our opponents seem to find these guys and when AW signed with AU, nobody thought he would still be here. All the talk was 5* and "one and done".. If the various problems had not arisen, he probably would have been gone well before now.
  21. I could see that...good chance he would be our "big man" next year which he is probably not interested in doing. We've had 3 years to get at least one big guy to replace AW....and not even close to doing that as far as I know.
  22. Glad to see you guys are doing your part to perpetuate the species. Tough job raising children these days and instilling good values. Prayers for all of you. My oldest grands...now juniors in college were invitro births after several years of no results.....boy and girl twins ….and the excitement of that experience for the parents and grand parents still brings smiles. Interesting thing however. After everyone had gotten life adjusted to raising twins......ooops…..about three years later miss unexpected showed up....but what a joy #3 is. .
  23. ..Nice to see these good players making visits....but I'm still looking for the day when a couple of 7-2" guys from Lithuania or Serbia or Nigeria drop by for a visit. The current recruiting class looks pretty much like our present roster (minus AW) and keep hoping we will find a couple big folks like we've run into lately at LSU and elsewhere.
  24. nope, there is always another position on the list...take one off the top and just move down to the next one... One thing I've learned in life is that unhappy people will always find something to be unhappy about.....just human nature I think.
  25. Girls are special that way....know how to win your heart almost instinctively......boys ? not always? but they are worth the effort too..
