Might be...but this is a sports site....so somewhere else perhaps.... As for the EB...considering that numerous other black coaches have been hired and fired, I'm inclined to think the issue is him and not his race although Yahoo is trying to make it appear that way. . Being a good coordinator is not necessarily an indicator of being good head coaching material and there is no particular basis that you work your way up to HC because you put in a lot of time at a lower level. College football and NFL is full of professional coordinators who will likely never be HCs.

"unconscious bias"...….guess I would wonder how you read someone's subconscious thoughts? Who knows.? ...JMO but the NFL owners have a bias toward winning and seem willing to do about anything that will get them there. Beyond that? I see allegations from time to time but usually based on statistics ….and can't recall seeing actual names of people who should be HCs that are not getting the jobs. BUT the NFL is incestuous in my view and mostly just shuffles coaches from one team to the next.....it does look like a pretty closed society.
  3. This is probably a sport where you have to be a real "insider" to have any idea who is a good coach and suited for AU. There was a day when our swimming team was mostly international ….and we've done well in golf and tennis too....so no reason not to see what's going on in other countries in Volleyball. If we are gonna spend some money to get a good coach we might as well go all the way and chase the best players too.

What is with Detroit bringing KJ back at this point in the year...? They ain't going anywhere...so why risk it?
  5. Might be a factor sometimes but these days you can't keep a guy more than a year if he has playing asperations....so if you have a guy like Bo who is likely to be around a while, I'm thinking a good invited walk-on or maybe an "athlete" who can play QB is about the best you can get as back-up for at least another year. If you sign 4 QBs, you are gonna lose at least 2 and probably 3 after a year or so. That might work if you have not identified your #1....but soon as that guy's name is announced, the #2 is probably gonna hit the trail....and these days, some of them don't even finish the season.....thinking about Joey and the guy at Clemson as recent examples..
  6. About all I can say is that I never felt that UNC was his final home......but Charlotte paper refers to Clemson as his "dream school" which is a surprise because I would have thought he had an offer from Clemson for quite a while. Glad we won't be playing him....
  7. Likely....once the change is made most guys would be too embarrassed to flip back....doing it once is bad enough but a second time? ...not likely. Hate that we lost him though...might have generated a little more Auburn interest in the area for us. .
  8. Wow....what a nasty divorce that was.... His twitter handle....Javo the Great......tells me all I need to know about him...
  9. Just curious but seems that nobody giving Jones any credit for what the did with his legs to keep drives alive. Jones was tough enough and stood in there under a pretty good rush and if I recall, made a couple first downs when had them third and long. Tua would never have done that.....been gimpy all year and only a handful of yards rushing and I've seen him sacked a few times too. JMO but AU would have sacked Tua more than they were able to get to MJ.
  10. Thanks for the report.....appreciate seeing you back on the board. AND per your comment....Boobee is a huge mixed blessing to this team...catch passes, drop passes, get needless penalties, rip off some good runs and break tackles. Coaches probably lose sleep over what to do with him.
  11. No matter where they end up playing football I bet this weekend will be something they will remember the rest of their lives. Happy that so many of them got the opportunity to see AU....and hope the game sways a few undecided our way. WDE

Yep.....generally that is a product of the NFL draft system.....best QB goes to a poor team and just has to be lucky to ever have an OL in front of him. And of course, he only had on OC who knew how to use his talent. I figure he's "gone" from Charlotte …..too bad but generally Panther fans have lost confidence in him and are mostly looking for a change.
  13. New owner at Charlotte has no personal attachment to Cam as did Richardson who worked hard to make him the face of the team. JMO but new guy is likely to strike while Cam has some perceived value and cut him loose. .
  14. Great pix everyone...cute kiddies......but the BBQ plate left me drooling all over my keyboard....

Cam on IR now and looks like he is done for the year......and probably his last season at Charlotte...would hate to see him go but he's kinda lost fan support in this area.

Dallas in the East....makes sense....kind of like Missouri in the East of the SEC.....they must be using the same maps.
  17. True …but where is all that argument about putting players in the NFL or competing for national championships or having a glamorous stadium and sexy dressing room....and LED lights to bring in the team? From a facility standpoint, UNC is light years behind AU. ...and Mack is an old guy and who is their defensive coach this year? So we want to spend millions on a FO facility to recruits and it turns out that the coach is what is important and maybe the school itself.....who knew?
  18. Could be….guess we will see where he ends up but living in the state of NC, , I've noticed that NC players are willing to travel to nearby states though not many go as far away as AU....but Clemson, Tenn and Georgia have gotten plenty of NC talent over the years. AU is not an easy trip from Charlotte for families and friends.
  19. Maybe but I would be more worried about Clemson....JMO
  20. Wow...pass me the crow with sauce. Only a few weeks ago there was a piece in the Charlotte Observer about him and AU was a major focus. Guess it's not over til it's over but really hated to see this news of the de-commit. .
  21. Had just told my wife, if they don't win it in the bottom of the ninth they will have to do it without me...past midnight I think....and then Altuve hit the blast which looked gone as soon as it left the bat. And I love the look on Chapman's face...almost a smile...and I'm betting that was his last pitch as a Yankee... Go Astros...
  22. Apparently he has been an AU guy for a long time. Local papers still treat him as an AU commit. Just my observation but UNC nor any other state team really has that much pressure to apply in situations like this. Heels and NCState are used to losing the state's best football players to out of state schools...often UGa or Clemson. I"d be shocked if he goes to UNC.....
  23. Not sure where this should go...maybe under AU baseball? BUT...….MLB wants to cut the number of minor league teams by 1/4th...….would eliminate thousands of entry level professional baseball jobs for HS and college prospects. Included to be eliminated are the rookie and short season leagues where most college players get their professional start. I did not do a close count but looks like a hundred teams could be shut down. https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb-wants-slash-number-minor-174911244.html Not sure how this would affect college baseball....be interesting to hear what POD and some others who follow the game in general and might have some thoughts on what this could mean for the game over-all. But just thinking.....no additional NCAA baseball scholarships and hundreds if not thousands of fewer rookie opportunities? Long term that's gotta hurt prospects in the US.
  24. Not a bad plan to stock the shelves with good players who will be around several years and not have to rebuild the starting line-up every year.
