  1. still a WHOLE lot of baseball to be played. This series with the Pads will setup who the best team in the NL is. We REALLY need to win this series.
  2. I hope he does well up there. He's on one of few teams in that division I can stand plus, regardless of his attitude, he did alot of good things on the field for the Braves. Cubs up on the Phils now in the 7th.
  3. BMAC just read my post on his Droid... next... grand salami lolol
  4. came back a little cold from the break. going to have to take a deep breath and get ready to roll. nowhere near over yet.
  5. I was at the AA ball game and missed this. Glad we pulled out the win. How did Gonzo look out there?
  6. I got to see them a couple of weeks ago in Bham. Thirsty Thursdays! The coolest thing by far that evening was a guy hitting a foul ball into someone's unattended beer. It was one of the coolest things I've ever seen at a baseball game. The crowd went nuts. Enjoy some minor league ball. i'm not that old, but i've always gone to stars games. seen some true ballers there. Jose Canseco. Scott Brosius (sp?), Mark McGwire, Prince Fielder, Corey Hart... list goes on...
  7. I'm interested to see if our bats stay warm. They haven't been hot the past few weeks, but warm enough to win most of our games. I'm glad our rotation got some rest, ESPECIALLY Tommy. Hopefully he'll be back to form. I'll miss the game tonight as I'm goin to see our AA ball club play!
  8. did not realize it was that bad in the clubhouse.
  9. Not so much. An infield of Mark Grace, Ryan Sandberg, Jeff Blauser, and Terry Pendleton and you have my childhood memories all rolled up into one team. I guess Shawon Dunston, the Crime Dog, and Sid Bream could be my backups and then let Andre Dawson just stand on the rail in the dugout and look mad as hell all the time.... . ahhh memories.
  10. I agree. As I admitted, I knee jerked when I heard. I do not believe Gonzo will be a long term SS solution. I say we try to get Jeff Blauser back.
  11. My knee jerk was ill. I hate change when you're winning. Alex is a solid player. Career just a shade under .250 I believe and batting right around that mark currently also. Nowhere near the defender as escobar IMHO. Looking at the numbers, it is a step up. Yunel was cheap though. He was making sub-500K i believe. Gonzalez was making over 5 mil just a few years ago. now he's sub 3 mil.
  12. I just heard this and came here to rant... WHAT IN THE HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL jesus christ this pisses me off. in first place and we're going to toss out one of the young guns that got us here instead of paying him. AHH$#@!^$
  13. Awesome quote from Scott Rolen... Per Jayson Stark on ESPN.... But then Rolen lined a one-out single to center off Phil Hughes. And when Holliday followed with a bouncer up the middle, Rolen fired up his 35-year-old engines and never stopped, going first to third on local hero Torii Hunter. "That's the way I was taught to play the game," the Reds' third baseman said. "In that kind of situation, going first to third is a big deal in my mind. So I took a chance, and it worked out. The throw was up the line, and nothing blew out on me. So it was all good."
  14. Way to go BMAC! McCann broke a what, 14 year losing streak by the NL? Great job man!
  15. LOFFLE! I'm with you man. And Tommy Hanson. I'll protest on the sidewalk. Also Omar Infante. Talk about a freakin team player.
  16. Fully aware. And I agree with you about cap room, but why trade him now? You can trade him after the season and open that cap room. If you trade him now, it should only be to increase your chances to finish out and win the series. I'm not sure what you could get for DL and/or KK right now that would improve your chances. It'd have to be a starting pitcher. Here are your current MLB highest paid pitchers. Starting pitchers The highest-paid active starting pitchers, by average annual value: C.C. Sabathia, $23,000,000 (2009-15) Johan Santana, $22,916,667 (2008-13) Roy Halladay, $20,000,000 (2011-13) Carlos Zambrano, $18,300,000 (2008-12) Barry Zito, $18,000,000 (2007-13) Jake Peavy, $17,333,333 (2010-12) A.J. Burnett, $16,500,000 (2009-13) John Lackey, $16,500,000 (2010-14) Justin Verlander, $16,000,000 (2010-14) Jason Schmidt, $15,666,667 (2007-09) Felix Hernandez, $15,600,000 (2010-14) Derek Lowe, $15,000,000 (2009-12) Roy Oswalt, $14,600,000 (2007-11) Mark Buehrle, $14,000,000 (2008-11) Roy Halladay, $13,333,333 (2008-10) Ryan Dempster, $13,000,000 (2009-12) Chris Carpenter, $12,700,000 (2008-11) Bronson Arroyo, $12,500,000 (2009-10) Kevin Millwood, $12,000,000 (2006-10) Now say you could trade those 2 fellas for a Jake Peavy, then the ish would get real! But the odds of Wren pulling that in July, while he is up 4 games on the division, is pretty slim IMHO. Now after the season? Whole new can of worms. You are dead on. Prado, Medlen, Tommy, JJ, and Yunel will ALL either get raises or be traded. Maybe the braves will quit playing that budget baseball and pay to keep these guys around.
  17. Bad thing about McClouth wearing it out in triple A is who do you want to send down to bring him up?? Matty's going nowhere. Wouldn't let Blanco go back down. Right now we're full and thats with JHEY out. Yanno? I like Nate, but I think he may be on the block. Alot of teams could really use him right now.
  18. In the last 18 series we are 14-1-3. Amazing stat. How many are sweeps?? if you have as many sweeps as you do lost series, you'll be there at the end. Good find.
  19. well it doesn't matter who's pitching. if you score 0 runs in 9 innings, you just about always lose in today's major leagues.... While Lowe is pricey, its not like the Braves are over a salary cap. The Braves, for years, have tried playing semi-budget baseball. That's how guys like Texiera end up in New York. The Braves just won't dish out for those mega-contracts. Maybe its attendance. Maybe its memorabilia sales. Who knows. What I do know, is we rank 15th in the majors on roster salary. The Yankees spend 2.5 times more than the Braves. Thats where you're superstars end up.
  20. We have a good shot the 2nd half. We need to keep our warm bats warm and get our cool bats hotter! You guys need to come off of Lowe. Yes he is underachieving now, but pitchers go through slumps. He is a great pitcher and if he was traded today he would win several games the rest of the season. The alternative right now is KK, and I like my chances with Lowe on the mound much better than KK with how things have gone this season. Plus, if you trade Lowe right now, you aren't going to get a better pitcher for that money in July. I'm hoping he turns it on a little in the 2nd half. I think the Mets will be a bigger threat than the Phillies. We'll see. Would have been nice to have ended the first half with a sweep, but keep winning those series. You win every series all year long, you'll be there at the big dance.
  21. heck yes i'd love to see us make a run late. who do ya'll think will replace bobby? is it too much of a coincidence that since bobby is retiring chipper has started tossing around the idea and talking with management about his future? i dont know if you can go straight from player to coach. kind of a player respect thing. but if anybody could do it, it'd be chip. i hope terry stays the hitting coach. not saying he's the best hitting coach in the league, but he and jeff blauser were my favorite players for years. that and he looks like a teenage mutant ninja turtle
  22. the ASB is the best thing the phillies could ask for. a break to get a few injuries taken care of and clean the slate on their rough first half. if we can carry on our momentum and keep winning series we'll be in dang good shape come fall.
  23. i'm really kicking myself right now for not ordering some tickets preseason. they are pretty jacked up for good seats on razorgator
  24. 2-2 to hinske. gotta be a curve. edit: what was that a slider? nowhere to put em come on OMAR HELLS YEA. Now we're cookin. Bout to get to the Mets pen
