  1. Girls win 6-5. Homeruns by Ellis, Garcia (2 run shot in 5th to put AU up 6-4), and Peralta (lead off shot). Lowe started - 2 solid innings and wheels came off in 3rd. Widra relieved - walked first batter and hit second so forced in 2 runs which made Lowe leave with 2.1 innings and 3 earned runs. Widra got the other two outs and pitched the 4th, giving up HR which tied score again. Penta pitched last 3 innings. Runner on first with 2 out and next batter hit a shot off center field wall. Packer played it perfectly off the wall and threw the batter out at 2nd to seal the game. Very good win!

  2. You read what's in this article regarding the police report on Beard and it should make any athletic director swallow hard before making Beard the choice.

    1. Chris Beard can dodge a felony charge but not the police report
    (Photo: Getty)

The felony charges against former Texas basketball coach Chris Beard were dropped Wednesday because the Travis County District Attorney’s Office said his alleged assault against fiancée Randi Trew “cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.”

Beard is off the hook because Trew dropped a Friday News Dump just two days before Christmas stating Beard was “acting in self-defense” and that “Chris did not strangle me.”

With no felony looming over his head, Beard can try to get back to doing what he does best –– coach basketball. There's already a bunch of scuttlebutt about where Beard could end up next season.

He's probably going to be back on the sideline sooner rather than later.

    It’s nauseating, revolting and disgusting.

The police report from that terrible mid-December night tells you everything you need to know:

Trew: “He just snapped on me and became super violent.”
Trew was asked if the choking impeded her breathing to which she replied, "Yes, I could not breathe, he did it for like probably like five seconds."
Trew told the officers that Beard placed ‘an arm around her neck’ while he was behind her.
Trew said Beard threw her off their bed to the floor.
Trew: “I couldn’t move or do anything at all.”
Police listed the following injuries on Trew: Bite mark on her right forearm, abrasion to right eyebrow, abrasion to left leg, cut left thumb, scratches on back, scratches on eye.
Trew: “My leg is really killing me right now” after she was drug off of the bed by Beard.
        no mention of alcohol.

I don’t care what Trew’s updated statement was. I don’t care what Beard’s response to this is. I don’t care that interim Texas coach Rodney Terry said he loved Beard like a brother and doubled down on his character.

I care about the police report.

It’s a right and a privilege to bank millions of dollars to coach basketball. Texas fired Beard because he "engaged in unacceptable behavior that makes him unfit to serve as head coach at our university." If it was unacceptable for Texas, it should be unacceptable everywhere else.

Undoubtedly, some desperate program that wants to win games will interview Beard for their open job because he’s one of college basketball’s elite recruiters and all of his teams play so dang hard. He’ll probably say the right things in the interview. His people will probably back him up. He’ll be overqualified.

Hopefully, that athletic director gives the police report just one more glance. And maybe re-reads it 10 more times before making a final decision.

... I think Pearl made the conscious decision this offseason to go with the guys we have versus hitting the transfer portal. ....

Pearl did go after others in the transfer portal. One in particular was Stevenson (from South Carolina) who went to WVa and lit us up in Morganton. Pearl mentioned going after him following the game. How many others he went after (other than Broome), I have no idea

  4. Girls up by 13 on Florida in the 4th with 4:52 left in game. While they are long way from the talent of the top teams in the country, they are improving. While some don't see the improvement with Coach Harris, I do. Defense is pretty good and they play hard. As @slot canyonpointed out, key players were out for several games (Coulibaly and Scott-Grayson in particular). It will take some time to overcome the last several years of ruining the AU Women basketball name in terms of getting top talent .

  5. Interesting article about the NCAA Tournament with comments by a panel

    https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/35139977/ncaa-volleyball-tournament-2022-bracket-breakdown-preview

Most interesting part was the following question and a couple of panelists comments regarding the Auburn team

Which low-seeded or unseeded team has the best chance to make a deep run in the tournament?

Lyle: I'm excited to see what Auburn can do. The Tigers went into the season looking to gain experience and grow the different weapons they have. Now Auburn is in the NCAA tournament for just the second time, dancing with nothing to lose. That makes for a dangerous team.

Hoffman: Auburn is young and plays fearlessly. The Tigers had high highs and low lows throughout the season, but that never seemed to affect them. Akasha Anderson and Kendel Kemp are forces to be reckoned with, and Auburn is positioned to take this tournament by surprise.

This last part is strictly just my opinion but I feel our fan base makes heroes out of the wrong players most of the time. Like last year they tried to make Powell the hero and they kill Flan when in actuality the only guy that had and played like an Alpha in big games was Flan. And even this year Johnson goes 0-14 and I still saw posts of people taking up for him there was another game flan only shot 3 times and made 2 of them and still he gets killed for the one missed shot 😂......that's just tough.

    What are your thoughts?

Thanks for your responses to my items. As for the last part of your post, I think part of it is based on the amount of knowledge individual fans may have about the game that affects their view of individual players. Last year, Powell did pretty well early with lots of press in that time, etc. He had a pretty stroke and people get on the bandwagon. Then, when things didn't go as well for him, there was already the  certain view and people don't change what they think they know very easily. Flan got beat up because he wound up serving as the lead guard in a lot of games which is not his real position/role so people got down on him. For me, I could look at how hard he had worked between his freshman and sophomore years; that Pearl was talking about him playing out of position; and feel very positive about his contributions. I hope Flan comes back next year and gets back to where the latter part of the first round of the NBA draft is what people see for him.

I think another part of it is just the internet/forums method of communication. It's hard to really understand tone, true meaning, etc. and the anonymity leads to more harsh rhetoric sometimes, I believe. Having said that, I think the vast majority (if not 100%) of posters just want good things for Auburn players and teams.

    War Eagle!
