Why? He's don't nothing and really hasn't looked good in spring games or gotten the best practice reviews

Great point . But I could make the same argument about Justin Fields. He did nothing and would’ve wasted away on the bench behind Jake Fromm until he transferred to Ohio St. Vandagriff was an elite QB prospect coming out of high school that has been in a Championship system with great coaching. I would take him in a heartbeat based on potential alone.

  2. Thorne has definitely improved since we stopped rotating QB’s and he now knows that he’s the guy. I’m all for him coming back in ‘24, but we need to bring in another transfer QB to upgrade that position. The transfer portal has the POTENTIAL to be loaded with some highly-rated backup QB’s and even starters that could beat out Thorne for the job in ‘24 IF they were to hit the portal. Here’s the ones that come to mind. Did I miss anyone?

Brock Vandagriff (UGA - my personal #1)

    Riley Leonard (Duke)

    Connor Weigman (Texas A&M)

    Garrett Nussmeier (LSU)

    Maalik Murphy (Texas)

     Michael Pratt (Tulane)

    Christopher Vizzina (Clemson)

    Ty Simpson (UAT)

This NMSU matchup reminds me so much of this game. Just saying the AU players have to prepare and focus properly, or a game like this can turn sideways in a hurry.

I’ve been thinking about this for a few days. The trajectory of Hugh’s first season and Saban’s first season is eerily similar at this point.

  4. I understand that Pearl & Auburn were nervous because he already had a show clause under his belt, but they should have fought the NCAA tooth and nail. Danjel Purifoy sat out 1+ years. Austin Wiley sat out 1 year. Shariffe Cooper sat out multiple games under a separate investigation.

I told my dad then, Auburn shouldn’t accept ANY penalties until Kansas and North Carolina receive their penalties. And guess what? They never were! Kansas & Bill Self faced 5 Level 1 violations and they were all reduced to 1 Level III violation today. No suspensions for Bill Self or assistant coaches. No postseason ban. Kansas & Bill Self have thrived during this 5+ year investigation. The NCAA is a joke and I hope I hope we fight them tooth and nail going forward!

But would you go back to having someone like Harsin in charge of football again so we'd have sufficient NIL 💸 to close that kind of talent?

Don't get me wrong, it was amazing to have the run with Okeke, Okoro, Cooper, Jabari, Kessler, etc. But we're spending tons again on football and just not sure we're committed to being the top basketball school in the SEC anymore.

Which is exactly my point - why are we not able to close on these too guys? Is it NIL? Is it Under Armour vs Nike? Bruce Oearl needs to be screaming from the roof top if there if something outside his control that is holding him back. Otherwise, it appears that it is his new recruiting philosophy that is holding us back!

Respectfully, what do u expect. Auburn has a new coach, make shift line, no depth and plenty of injuries. The offense didn’t even have a pulse last week. Yes a win would have been nice but this was great for recruiting. The team was competitive with all the flaws. Even though Georgia appears to be not as strong in years past they are still number #1 and back to back champions.

I expect to start beating UGA again, no matter what it takes. They were the inferior team in 2016 during Kirby’s first year but yet they found a way to win at home.

I understand the talent gap, but after living through Gus & Harsin I’m just tired of excuses and moral victories. We HAVE to start winning these games that we play our tails off and have a chance to win.

BP has gotten highly talented prospects to come to AU for a visit when no previous head coach could get highly ranked prospects to visit.

100% correct - my point is how do we take the next step? I’m all for being thankful and reminding ourselves of how far we’ve come, but we also must keep working to advance our basketball program. We’ve come a long ways, but we still have a long ways to go.

We have missed out on Cam Scott to Texas and the big man to Kansas. Who are the next targets the staff is making a priority? I don't understand why Pearl and staff did not make Scott a priority. Philon, who decomitted, is trending towards Ole Miss. For the last two years, it seems as if this staff puts all their eggs in one basket and continue to get burned. They did the same thing with the Center that ended up signing with Arkansas. What's next?

This is 100% of my problem with Bruce and his staff. They continue to put all of their eggs in one basket and are left with egg on their face. They have been unable to close on some pretty big targets the last few years, for whatever reason (Under Armour brand, NIL, G-League, etc).

Bruce has done an excellent job during his time at Auburn. But Bruce and his staff are not above criticism. There’s no doubt that Bruce will put a competitive team on the court every year and continue to win at Auburn. But how do we take the next step? How do we figure out how to close on some of these top prospects?

I’m tired of hearing the excuses that I listed above. Put up the NIL money, change from UA to Nike, and do whatever it takes to make us elite! I’m sick of always being one step behind someone else.
