  1. Perhaps he meant to or looked at the wrong stat? Who knows. We lucked into the Sugar Bowl for the most part (seriously, an 8-4 team in the freaking Sugar Bowl!) the way we collapsed offensively with injuries. That aside, the point was that we won't suffer those winning percentages very long without something changing - particularly on the offensive side. Do we think that we're on the way up? With the talent we have, we want to think so. Did we feel that way in 2012 with Chizik? No, for a whole mess of reasons. But if we go 8-4 again next season, are we still okay with this (especially if 2 losses are to Georgia and Bama)? Do we give him another season? I think that resounding answer would be no.
  2. Chizik's record for seasons including 2010: .635 Malzahn's record for seasons including 2013: .673 With or without - Stat's point remains the same. Gus has gotten a pass only because we haven't had a 3-8 season with him. But overall winning percentage has not improved as much as Auburn wants. You trolls can go away now. Thanks for visiting.
  3. Well said, Stat. I think that echoes most of our feelings on the matter. I love Gus as a HC and I want him to remain our HC for a long time. But that's only if he's willing to step aside and hire an OC who can run the show just like Steele. I think he can. Having Rhett take over this season did well until things weren't going well, then you saw how quickly Gus got involved trying to "fix" things because he's too close to this offense. He needs someone who will tell him to f-ck off (pardon the phrase) and let them do their job. And if the new OC isn't a good QB coach/recruiter - FIND ONE AND PAY THEM!
  4. Bright spots: Javaris Davis, Daniel Thomas, Stephen Roberts, Eli Stove, Daniel Carlson Black spots: QB shuffle/play, O-line play, DE play I'm going to assume that we allowed Hurts to dump the ball to his safety valve all game long because we had someone spying on Hurts and they had to commit to him or the other and couldn't do both, but good Lord that play killed us. It didn't help that Bama's receivers had our DBs locked up on most of those. Is grabbing the shoulder pads like that even legal or should that be called as holding? Overall, our defense played well. If we could've sustained a drive for more than 3-5 plays on offense they would've looked even better. Here's hoping we get healthy for the bowl game and look more like the team that destroyed Arkansas than the team that couldn't move the ball against Georgia. War Eagle and thanks for these posts, JMR!
  5. While I have to give him praise for being our workhorse the last 2 games, I wish he would've had the last two weeks off. No one (except Booger McFarland apparently) can watch him run and think he's anywhere near being healthy. There was one play he busted open and normally would have had an easy TD but was quickly run down by a DB and tackled. He's still making cuts and juking a bit but full speed he is not. I'm not sure what his 40 time is, but it looks closer to 5.2 now. Unless he gets 80+ against Bama, I don't think he breaks 1000 this season.
  6. I was curious as well. The wind was definitely a factor in the kicking game but I was watching Carlson kick 50-60 yard FGs during warm-ups. Plenty of leg though his accuracy was off a bit on any kick beyond 40. I was actually wondering if they were kicking a bit short on purpose to give the guys more practice containing returns. If so, it was a good idea. After the first one or two, we were much better containing and tackling the return man.
  7. I don't think it'll help our mentality. lol But Auburn has been so successful converting on 3rd and short when running the football it's crazy we got away from that.
  8. Hindsight is 20/20. While Kerryon was no where near healthy enough to carry the entire game like he did, running him on 3rd and 2 was more likely to succeed than not. 2nd and 2 go ahead and throw a pass. 3rd and 2 you run it. Hell, Sean himself could've gotten the 2 yards on most of those. It's frustrating.. but it is what it is.
  9. I felt the same. I don't know if it was lack of effort offensively or the offense just feeling like a win was already guaranteed, but I didn't "feel" any sense of urgency even as the clock winded down in the 4th quarter.
  10. Well said. QB has been a consistent problem for our program before/after Gus. We get a gem here and there (Jason Campbell was solid in 2004, Cam in 2010, Nick in 2013-14) but overall we are lucky to have a game manager like Sean taking snaps. As for running backs, that's just plain bad luck like you said. Losing three before the season then all the injuries piling up on top of each other here late is making us scramble for an able body to plug in. I wouldn't be surprised to see Rudy Ford back there this week out of desperation.
  11. I'm not sure who all was on the field on any given play but it was worse than any game we've had since 2012. Even when the passes were on target they just flat out dropped them. If I was Kodi, I'd have threatened every one of them that if they drop a pass, they are benched until everyone drops a pass then it's back to the top of the rotation. lol This falls on the coaches then. JJ should have been getting reps last week and this week unless they honestly had no idea the extent of Sean's injury. We should've had another blocker on the field and just Rudy back for the return (or KJ as a decoy). I was pissed that Kerryon waved him off so he could take the kickoff, knowing full well he couldn't run full speed. Especially since we know Rudy is very capable of giving us great returns. I mean, seriously, no one is behind Cox? Jalen Harris maybe? Even with Pettway back there, if Cox is injured we're struggling to gain more than 3-4 yards on those plays. Ugghhhhhh, even when we're having a good season the cards just get stacked against us. I think we used every ounce of good fortune we had in 2013 an it hasn't refilled since.
  12. All of this. Coaches need to answer the following questions HONESTLY - if not to the media and the fans, at least to the players themselves: 1. Why was Sean not benched and JF3 or JJ given a shot at moving the offense? (We know Sean has been our guy all season and we love him for his toughness, but you have to do what's best for him and the team. Continuing playing him was not good for either.) 2. Why was Kam Martin not utilized in the running game? Kerryon was less than effective during the 2nd half as his nagging injury reared its ugly head again. (And don't even get me started on why Kerryon was RETURNING KICKOFFS late in the game!! 3. Why do we not have another option at HB aside from Chandler Cox? If we do, why did they not see the field? There was absolutely no excuse for losing to THAT Georgia team. Injuries or not, we should have won that game. It's one thing to lose to a team who just shows up and plays their best game of the season, but that wasn't Georgia on Saturday. They did just enough to win and the Auburn offensive coaches did everything they could to lose.
  13. I meant last week versus Vandy. lol Going to be praying hard that our guys stay healthy the rest of the season (and for the bowl game(s))! We are a well oiled machine with Sean and Pettway right now.
  14. I actually believed that if we wanted/needed Sean to sit out this week, Jeremy would have been the better option to keep more of our offensive package in. Especially if John is that inaccurate. The risk vs reward with John running the offense appears to be too great of a risk at this point. Give him a few plays here and there for change of pace but that's it.
  15. I just can't believe that after a full week to game plan with JF3 that our offense looked that meh. And JF3 has GOT to stop running with the ball held out like he does. It's a terrible habit. And is it just me or did JF3 look like he could be tackled one-handed like he only weighed 100lbs soaking wet? lol
  16. I think if Auburn rushes for 250 or less it's because we're actively trying to throw the ball to prepare for a more balanced attack against Georgia and ultimately Alabama. Some bold predictions say Sean throws for over 300!
  17. Always good to hear someone beating cancer in its many forms! Looking forward to seeing these guys make impacts on the field! WDE!
  18. I didn't see the initial formation (eating at BWW while watching the game) but I looked up in time to see them shifting out and I immediately got excited and saying "New play! New play!" I probably would've been groaning had I saw the Wing-T first. lol
  19. I went back through just now. There were a few of us in the ballpark. One or two more had the same prediction. One had 41-25 I think so that's pretty darn close too. I'm actually impressed most of us were predicting around a 38-42 point game for Auburn. The Ole Miss score varied wildly though. lol
  20. I called the game 38-28 in favor of Auburn because of how much of a wildcard Chad Kelly and that Ole Miss offense is. I knew they would give our secondary fits. But we made enough adjustments to pull away in the 4th quarter and not look back. It's a great stat to see our team holding up solid in the red zone! We'll need that!
  21. Well, the last three weeks definitely helped pad those stats. lol But if we continue at this rate.. oh man.. it's going to be something to see!
  22. I had no idea! That's impressive - especially with no Nick Marshall at QB!! WDE!
  23. Lawson honestly HAD to come back and prove he could play a full season. I'm not sure he'd risk another season with Auburn, but I would definitely love to see him return. I'm sure they will all judge their stock at the end of the season and if we finish strong (and just shy of the SEC Champ) that might draw some of them back for one more run.
  24. I've said it before but Sean has a fairly "slow" throwing motion. And I mean that in regards to looking to his receiver, setting his feet, and the actual throw/release of the ball. As much as we like to do those short throws, this can really be a liability against teams with great DBs like Ole Miss and Bama (and nearly with Arkansas). He is still accurate but if the DB is reading the QB it becomes really dangerous. That's why I tense up so much when we look for the long ball because they usually have Sean doing misdirection when his eyes need to be downfield earlier so he can adjust before the receivers outrun him or it becomes a jump ball situation. This is partly why we used JJ so much in the red zone. He was much faster getting the ball out in smaller windows.
  25. I saw a Georgia fan comment on a post yesterday that said they'll still beat us.
