The body cam footage is what has the cop in hot water. What is happening around the country is unfortunate, but this case isn't about that.  This is about a young man needlessly losing his life at the hands of law enforcement.  The officer is allowed to stop and detain someone on the street.  He is allowed to carry a weapon anywhere and he is given the authority to detain and imprison someone.  The public places trust in the officer.  The officer has a responsibility to not abuse that trust. This type of shooting makes the lives of police officers more difficult, not less.  These type of shootings erode that trust.

I am not anti cop and 8 times out of 10 defend their actions.  This particular shooting is simply difficult, if not impossible, to defend.

We can certainly agree that it is a tragic event. One life was lost and another permanently changed.

It clearly shows that the gun was not pointed in the direction of the officer.

I assure you I can take a loaded pistol from my side to a shooting position in a milliseconds. If the gun is locked and cocked I can have a couple of rounds in a target in 1-2 seconds.

There was no disturbance at all when the officer arrived.

Great to know after the fact. He was dispatched to a call about domestic violence. He knocked on the door and announced himself as ‘Sheriff’s Office’ twice, in uniform, in broad daylight. He wasn’t kicking in a door in the middle of the night.

he may very well answer the door holding that shotgun, which he has every right to do.

Good for your dad. I take a different approach. If I get pulled over by a cop for instance, I feel no need to reach for my pistol and have it in my hand when he comes to my car.  I go out of my way to show hands. Shows respect for the officer, minimizes escalation, and maximizes my chance of not being shot by stubbornly clinging to ‘my rights’.

This officer had no probable cause to enter the apartment.

Zero evidence he wanted to enter. Cops knock on doors legally all the time, simply gathering facts.

This whole situation is tragic. But you’ve got this cop tarred and feathered. If he ends up needing a defense attorney, they will have plenty to work with. Like the picture below and the 4 LEOs massacred last week in NC.

The complex is a high end apartment complex, not some crime ridden, crime infested, corner of the world.  This is Ft Walton Beach, for crying out loud.

Great point. So why did the homeowner feel threatened enough to, in the middle of the day, to grab a gun simply by hearing a knock on his door by someone identifying themselves as the sheriff’s office? And if you truly feel threatened and have a weapon to defend yourself with, why open the door at all? Aren’t you safer calling 911 if you’re already armed and behind a locked door.
This is a terrible tragedy but there are many questions to be answered before we absolve/imprison the officer. Let’s let the investigation play out.

No lottery money for scholarships, not enough NIL,This is what you will get with any Auburn baseball coach.

I watched a few of our games we are just one really strong starter and a couple of bounces to being a solid middle of the pack SEC team. The old Gonzo would have made a huge difference.

We don't have enough depth because of what I mentioned above. One thing is even in the games we lost the effort was there.

What top coach would want to come to Auburn knowing his hands are tied when recruiting.

Butch has consistently landed strong recruiting classes. Our current class is 7th by some services. That’s how he’s gotten us to the CWS twice and Super Regionals.  We need better pitcher development and more emphasis on strength and size in my opinion.

    Seriously?

Yes seriously. Israel has one of the world’s best militaries, the dome for missile defense, and they’re fighting an enemy with minimal tanks and no air power. Israel is also very sound financially, especially relative to their enemy. Hamas is being obliterated with minimal Israeli casualties(relative to Hamas casualties ). I think you’re confusing that situation with Ukraine, who is facing one of the worlds largest militaries while vastly outgunned and out manned and incapable of defeating Russia without massive aid.

Biden has failed on many fronts but Israel is not weaker because of him. They are rock solid strong, independent of him.

He has weakened our only real ally in the ME and the world is watching.

How has Israel been weakened? Last I checked they are obliterating Hamas day by day with a vastly superior military. When Iran barraged them with a missile strike they used their dome to come out unscathed. So please provide specifics on how they have been weakened by Biden.

Question is do police have a responsibility to determine that the person with the gun actually means them harm in some way before they retaliate with force or is the act of having a gun in the presence of police enough justification for lethal force to be used against you?

How many seconds do you think it takes someone with a gun already in their hand to kill you, while you’re processing what their intent may or may not be? Police shootings are always tragic and should be thoroughly investigated from every angle and perspective. I know this one will be.

It's becoming concerning to me that it seems like Auburn just really isn't going to put for the effort to get the best players here (NIL) while the team across the state will do whatever it takes.  Oh well I guess...

NC St and Purdue were in the Final Four. What was their NIL spend?

  9. The question no one is asking: Why are we paying for any of Israel’s weapons at all? Last time I checked, they are a fairly well to do nation fighting an impoverished enemy with no Navy or Air Force. Politics aside, ally or no ally, I’m tired of our tax dollars being squandered on bombs and bullets for the rest of the world. At some point enough is enough.

I was thinking the other day it may be a good thing if the school that a kid is transferring TO (or the player themself) ,  has to pay a % back of the Original school's  (transferring from) NIL investment.  Esp.  at the level of the SEC.  May be the SEC can work something  similar out.

Some NIL collectives are already structuring their deals that way. But it is the NIL collective, and not the school.

  11. Two random observations: Cade Belyeu is going to be really good player in this league. And Carter Wright should’ve been playing more the past couple of seasons. Good hitter and puts the ball in play almost every at bat. Hate that he’s a senior.

  12. Butch needs to stay but needs more NIL support to be more competitive. He also needs to get some headline HS pitchers.  Relying too much on JUCOs. They’re coming in with All American credentials but not adjusting to the SEC level of play in the 2 years they have.
FWIW, the only sport we have, men’s or women’s that can sustain success is MBB with Bruce.

  13. Bo is getting first round money that he wouldn’t have gotten if had stayed at Auburn. That’s generational wealth for him and his family. So it’s irrelevant if he becomes an all pro or never starts a game. AU football failed to take advantage of a great talent once again.

Your thread title is misleading Sir.

Also, being gay is def voluntary these days. Didn't use to be. All labels are pretty fluid these days.

That's also outdated Webb, more like 25% today, and still trending up.

Kids highschool had a day of celebration last year for having over 50% of their school declare to identify as lgbtq+

Though I'd say a lot of it in HS is the simple fact that it is trendy and cool to have a letter to identify with. While being a 'normy' is lame.

I would have to see the data on that. Historically the scientific data has consistently been in the 3-4% range. Kids declaring they’re gay because it’s trendy is a different set of stats altogether.

do you think any of the right leaning christians have hurt religion? i do, and i am called a hater for it.

I do believe that with the information flow today, it is easier to identify and call out the hypocrisy that is so prevalent in our culture. But I believe that the hypocrisy cuts across political lines. I also believe one of the worst setbacks for organized religion, especially in the South, has been the increased emphasis on world religion curriculums in the schools and shifting demographics. When I was in HS in the late 70s early 80s, we spent maybe a few days on ‘other’ regions and belief systems. When my kids went through HS to years ago, they had an entire semester and a dedicated textbook on it and came way highly informed on other options for belief systems and faiths. My HS in Etowah county was 95% Protestant, with a small handfuls of Catholics and even less Jewish students. My kids friends from grade school thru HS included Christians, Jews, Catholics, Muslims, Hindu, Shikh, LDS, Buddhists, and openly agnostic/atheist. It is much easier to dispel another faith or belief system if you aren’t educated on it and don’t have experience with its participants. Much harder to do when you’re educated on it and have friends with those beliefs.

I don't know anything about that, but I do know that it is very clear that in your mind everybody in the damn world is responsible for the behavior of my female employees in their 20s except them.

In your world it’s okay to hire people, then judge their sexual behaviors and to learn about their Only Fans sites in a workplace. Sounds like you need to do better hiring. I don’t know about my employees sex lives or bedroom activities, or Only Fans sites because we know it’s not appropriate to bring into the workplace.

Can you explain the difference between causation and correlation?

Don't worry.  Nobody else here can either.

Yep. Use it almost every day on my job while discussing medical data. Also trained on it during my MBA program.

Can you name a society that began blurring sexual and gender lines during its ascendancy or peak rather than at the end of its lifespan?

Can you name a major society that has crumbled because of the behavior of a tiny minority of the populous?  Maybe study Rome. The decline was much more complex than what went on in the bedrooms of 3 or 4% of the population. It was about greed, political corruption, poor resource allocation (wars instead of infrastructure), excessive violence, etc.

I notice the female employees I have in their 20s will screw any human being who can fog a mirror without regard to what gender they are.  (Well, not any human...they have to be in their 20s also, lest they be "old.")

You think it’s okay to have those kinds of opinions and stereotypes of your female employees?
