That puts a lot of responsibility on the individual.

    Rights always come with responsibilities

Who are we, as individuals, to be capable of determine if our neighbor was bi-polar, schizophrenic or a psychopath?

Who we are to determine those things is ‘not qualified’. Which supports my premise that requiring all sales to be through legally licensed and trained FFL holders who can determine those things through the system; thus keeping the guns out of the hands of people who shouldn’t have them. That’s (to me) an example of one sensible measure we can take to retain our 2A rights while providing more safeguards for our communities. And it doesn’t impede my 2A rights one bit.

I have never denied the stats, just your obvious conclusion that guns are the issue.

Guns are not the issue. We agree on that. But hopefully you can agree that they are part of the equation. A huge part. My guns are sitting quietly in my home this morning. No threat to anyone. But under current laws, I can take one or several of them today and sell to a bi-polar neighbor with a history of violence. Surely we can agree that’s not optimal for the good of our society. There are several common sense measures we could take to impede the ability of unstable people to acquire them as easily as they can now.

When your over there; are you spending time in areas that are rough or is your company putting you up in nice areas?

I’ve been a few times to various countries and a mix of neighborhoods. They have their fair share of shady characters, lots of graffiti, and a lot of the same stuff we have here. Huge immigration problems like us. Pickpockets are big issues there. But the gun violence and threat thereof is obviously much less.

FWIW, I own several guns and always will. I love that right and understand the historical significance of it. But we have a culture here that guns solve problems. When the pandemic hit, lines were huge to buy guns. Our answer to gun violence is more guns. While our state legislature here in Tennessee is pushing for teachers being armed at school, you can’t take your weapon into the state capitol where they work. Road rage, public shootings, drive bys, all part of our gun culture. My point is there has to be a way to preserve the 2A while lessening our dependence on the ‘more guns make us safer’. That mindset is not working.

It is amazing to be that people think Europe is utopia.  You don’t think they have issues, mental issues, like America does.  They just express themselves differently.

It’s amazing to me how many people badly misinterpret what they read. Did I say Europe is utopia? No I did not. I said I feel safer there than here. Stats back me up on that.

We have *freedoms* other countries don’t and you sheep want to take it away.

We may, but some of them come with a costs. I feel very free in Europe when I go there to travel all over at all hours and not be fearful of some nut job shooting me, or being shot on the highway for upsetting another driver. America could very well retain and better enjoy its gun rights, if we could figure out how to curb our gun culture.

  6. I can offer few thoughts on their government, but just got back from a vacation in the Netherlands. Fabulous place to visit, with some of the friendliest people of anywhere we’ve been. They’re also some of the most intelligent. Even little kids were walking around speaking multiple languages.

The body cam footage is what has the cop in hot water. What is happening around the country is unfortunate, but this case isn't about that.  This is about a young man needlessly losing his life at the hands of law enforcement.  The officer is allowed to stop and detain someone on the street.  He is allowed to carry a weapon anywhere and he is given the authority to detain and imprison someone.  The public places trust in the officer.  The officer has a responsibility to not abuse that trust. This type of shooting makes the lives of police officers more difficult, not less.  These type of shootings erode that trust.

I am not anti cop and 8 times out of 10 defend their actions.  This particular shooting is simply difficult, if not impossible, to defend.

We can certainly agree that it is a tragic event. One life was lost and another permanently changed.

It clearly shows that the gun was not pointed in the direction of the officer.

I assure you I can take a loaded pistol from my side to a shooting position in a milliseconds. If the gun is locked and cocked I can have a couple of rounds in a target in 1-2 seconds.

There was no disturbance at all when the officer arrived.

Great to know after the fact. He was dispatched to a call about domestic violence. He knocked on the door and announced himself as ‘Sheriff’s Office’ twice, in uniform, in broad daylight. He wasn’t kicking in a door in the middle of the night.

he may very well answer the door holding that shotgun, which he has every right to do.

Good for your dad. I take a different approach. If I get pulled over by a cop for instance, I feel no need to reach for my pistol and have it in my hand when he comes to my car.  I go out of my way to show hands. Shows respect for the officer, minimizes escalation, and maximizes my chance of not being shot by stubbornly clinging to ‘my rights’.

This officer had no probable cause to enter the apartment.

Zero evidence he wanted to enter. Cops knock on doors legally all the time, simply gathering facts.

This whole situation is tragic. But you’ve got this cop tarred and feathered. If he ends up needing a defense attorney, they will have plenty to work with. Like the picture below and the 4 LEOs massacred last week in NC.

The complex is a high end apartment complex, not some crime ridden, crime infested, corner of the world.  This is Ft Walton Beach, for crying out loud.

Great point. So why did the homeowner feel threatened enough to, in the middle of the day, to grab a gun simply by hearing a knock on his door by someone identifying themselves as the sheriff’s office? And if you truly feel threatened and have a weapon to defend yourself with, why open the door at all? Aren’t you safer calling 911 if you’re already armed and behind a locked door.
This is a terrible tragedy but there are many questions to be answered before we absolve/imprison the officer. Let’s let the investigation play out.

No lottery money for scholarships, not enough NIL,This is what you will get with any Auburn baseball coach.

I watched a few of our games we are just one really strong starter and a couple of bounces to being a solid middle of the pack SEC team. The old Gonzo would have made a huge difference.

We don't have enough depth because of what I mentioned above. One thing is even in the games we lost the effort was there.

What top coach would want to come to Auburn knowing his hands are tied when recruiting.

Butch has consistently landed strong recruiting classes. Our current class is 7th by some services. That’s how he’s gotten us to the CWS twice and Super Regionals.  We need better pitcher development and more emphasis on strength and size in my opinion.

    Seriously?

Yes seriously. Israel has one of the world’s best militaries, the dome for missile defense, and they’re fighting an enemy with minimal tanks and no air power. Israel is also very sound financially, especially relative to their enemy. Hamas is being obliterated with minimal Israeli casualties(relative to Hamas casualties ). I think you’re confusing that situation with Ukraine, who is facing one of the worlds largest militaries while vastly outgunned and out manned and incapable of defeating Russia without massive aid.

Biden has failed on many fronts but Israel is not weaker because of him. They are rock solid strong, independent of him.

He has weakened our only real ally in the ME and the world is watching.

How has Israel been weakened? Last I checked they are obliterating Hamas day by day with a vastly superior military. When Iran barraged them with a missile strike they used their dome to come out unscathed. So please provide specifics on how they have been weakened by Biden.

Question is do police have a responsibility to determine that the person with the gun actually means them harm in some way before they retaliate with force or is the act of having a gun in the presence of police enough justification for lethal force to be used against you?

How many seconds do you think it takes someone with a gun already in their hand to kill you, while you’re processing what their intent may or may not be? Police shootings are always tragic and should be thoroughly investigated from every angle and perspective. I know this one will be.

It's becoming concerning to me that it seems like Auburn just really isn't going to put for the effort to get the best players here (NIL) while the team across the state will do whatever it takes.  Oh well I guess...

NC St and Purdue were in the Final Four. What was their NIL spend?

  15. The question no one is asking: Why are we paying for any of Israel’s weapons at all? Last time I checked, they are a fairly well to do nation fighting an impoverished enemy with no Navy or Air Force. Politics aside, ally or no ally, I’m tired of our tax dollars being squandered on bombs and bullets for the rest of the world. At some point enough is enough.
