  1. I think people are giving Gus too much credit. He may have picked up a win or two in the last 5 games, but he for sure would have lost us at least 2 before that. I don't know why we are making the assumption that obviously Gus would win all the games that Harsin won. It doesn't work like that. If you think that Gus would have a different effect on the games we lost, you have to acknowledge he would have had an effect on the games we won. Gus was not an all positive coach. He was inconsistent. I do not think our season would have looked any better under him this year. I can't wait for a few years to pass so we won't be able to talk about Gus's recruiting hurting us. I agree with the thought, but I am tired of hearing about this man. He still holds some responsibility for the position we are in due to some bad recruiting and I get that. Can we not just move on from him? I am so tired of seeing him put on some sort of pedestal. I am not saying Harsin has done a stellar job this year and I am not saying that he has proven that he is better than Gus yet. We will have to wait and see how he turns out. I will say that I don't think the sky is falling as hard as some people seem to think it is. We are in year 1. It is unlikely we were going to have a great season this year. I understand the frustration. We were 6-2 at one point and it felt like we might pull off something great, but it didn't work out. In the end, our season looks a lot like a typical year 1 season and that is ok.
  2. I must have already forgotten that because it's not ringing a bell. That's a good point. I'm not denying the need for the long pass. It just felt like a forgone conclusion with Finley throwing to me. I think theybwere the right call. I just don't know if Finley was the right QB today.
  3. You're right. I think Harsin saw we needed a big play to turn things around and long passes are one of the best ways to accomplish that. So I agree with you. I definitely feel execution was the worse side of our offense today.
  4. I can definitely see that. It is kind of hard to stomach when it just feels like a wasted play though. I just don't have the faith that Finley can make those plays in the first place. That being said, I don't really have the best feel for it. So if Harsin felt it could work, I can admit he is much better informed than me.
  5. I am curious about all the hate on play calling. I am by no means very good at picking up on stuff, but outside of a few plays I don't remember any play feeling ridiculous. My issues lie in having Finley throw long. He has shown no real proof outside of some flukes that he can throw long. Other than that I felt the plays were not bad. To me it looked like our players (specifically our OL) just could not make things happen.
  6. I know this isn't our only problem, but we desperately need an OL that can block. That goes for running and passing. I know that pass blocking has been better than run blocking (not that it means much), but I think we would see a different side of this offense if we could just block.
  7. I think that when you look at us moving into next year this hire makes sense. We need someone to develop a quarterback more than we need a play caller. We have 3 quarterbacks right now with very little actual game experience. We may pick up a veteran QB in the portal, but if not we really need someone who can develop. Even if we do get a QB with experience we don't know if they will necessarily fit our system and will still need someone to help them fit. It does make me a little uncomfortable to see us get an OC who doesn't have play calling experience, but I can get behind this hire. Hopefully Davis can get us through this QB competition and get us a strong leader for next year.
  8. Its looking like we are getting pretty heavy on the secondary. I am not going to pretend to know much, but doesn't that seem a bit much?
  9. I don't necessarily disagree, but I don't know how many boosters are willing to pull the trigger so to speak. I think the money is there at a lot of schools, but I think it is a difference of having the money and wanting to spend the money. I just think that there are only a few schools who will have boosters that are ready to spend a lot of money, Texas being one of them.
  10. I am not against allowing the players to be paid since they are the whole reason we even have college sports to watch anyways. I am worried that Texas and a few other schools will dominate recruiting if there is not some sort of cap put out there. How many schools' boosters can afford to spend $800,000 on offensive linemen alone or a $10,000,000 collective? I don't see many schools pulling together those kind of funds. I could be wrong though. This is all very new and it feels like the current state of the NIL is going to benefit a few schools and leave everyone else in the dust.
  11. It is kind of wild to me how we are so ready to tear Finley apart. This guy has barely gotten to start any games between here and LSU. He is clearly not a superstar at the moment. He needs to improve if he wants to be successful. This is true. What I don't understand is how much leeway some people are willing to give Bo in his third season, but then want TJ to be incredible in his second start of the season against Alabama. I like Bo and I like TJ. I think they both have demonstrated that they have potential if they can fix some fairly blatant problems in their gameplay. Bo has received more grace on this with substantially more starts and play time. Can we not give TJ some credit and time to pick up experience?
  12. I understand that we are upset with this season. It has been frustrating these past few weeks, but I don't understand why people are calling out losing a 25 point lead as if Gus would never do that. We let LSU comeback in 2017. I know that 2017 was a wild year for us with some major wins. You can't forget that even on a year we beat both Georgia and Alabama Gus still led us to lose at LSU. I understand that it is not the same exact situation. That being said he lost a 21 point lead when he had already been the head coach for at least 4 years. Harsin lost in his first year with a new offense and defense being built. This isn't to say that the loss to Miss St is acceptable, but to overlook Gus' flaws to make a judgement against Harsin is laughable to me. Gus was clearly not going to help Auburn progress so there was no point in keeping him another year. If we kept him this year and then got rid of him we would be fighting LSU, Florida, and USC for a head coach. We will be in the same position if we try to get rid of Harsin this year. Harsin is in a position where he really needs to show us that he can help grow Auburn football and he isn't going to get a lot of leeway the next few years, but we can't make a snap judgement from a few games in his first season alone.
  13. I have found them to be confusing to be honest. I am not the best at figuring out football play calling. That being said there are moments when I just can't figure our defense. It looks like we just give so many yards, but then it all works out and we stop the score. Obviously the past few games have shown some lackluster play on both sides of the ball and it is very frustrating to watch. I have been upset with the last two games especially. That being said, I do think we need to give it more time. We aren't even through our first season with a completely new program. If we turn Auburn into a revolving door, we will never get any better. I know it is painful to watch us struggle, but its unreasonable to expect us to dominate while trying to build something. I know we all hoped for more from this year, but in all I don't think we have seen coaching that is just truly terrible. I don't know if these are the coaches that will give us a chance to be on top or not, but I do think they have shown enough to have another season or two to see if they can build something.
  14. I know that a lot of people have already said this, but the whole "If it touches your hands, you should catch it" thing is ridiculous. It is an ideal to which players strive, but understand is unrealistic. Great receivers think that they can catch anything and convince themselves that they will catch anything they touch. Those same receivers will drop passes. Some times it will be their fault for their positioning and reaction. Some times it will be the quarter back not putting good touch or being inaccurate. It is not a ridiculous concept to talk about Bo when you talk about dropped passes. You can say statistically a dropped pass means it catchable, but that doesn't mean much past the website its posted on. There is always more context than just the stats. Bo is involved in these dropped passes. The receivers are involved in the dropped passes. They all need to do better.
