  1. Karl Ravech just said "You've shot 20 shots and 10 have been from 3 point land and you're 1 for 10 from 3. Why are you chucking up 3's and missing them when you have Jabari Smith on your team?" THANK YOU KARL RAVECH
  2. I remember that. If I recall, wasn't it a bank shot at the buzzer at regulation? It sent us to OT and we ended up winning. That got us to the semifinals of the tourney against Kentucky. I also think that was the undefeated Kentucky team that went onto lose to Wisconsin led by Frank Kaminsky. That Kentucky team started 38-0, if I remember correctly, but lost in the Final Four.
  3. Georgia had no chance of getting into the Big Dance several years ago and got hot in the SEC Tourney and won it. That automatically put them into the NCAA Tourney. So, as far as I know, the NCAA Tourney isn't set before the SEC Title Game due to the Conference Tournament winner getting an automatic bid.
  4. I noticed the article said that 2008 was the peak for college football attendance. I've always been into motorsports and Nascar has been dealing with this same issue, as have most other sports. 2007 was the peak year for Nascar as far as fan attendance and TV ratings. These 2 sports hitting their peak only 1 year apart is no coincidence. The recession in America began hitting in 2007 and was full blown by 2008. Fans began staying home and watching on TV due to the fact that money was so tight. Also a big reason for lack of attendance at all live sporting events is because TV has gotten so much better with Hi-def, etc. The networks like ESPN, Fox, CBS, NBC, etc. have ALL gotten so good with the multi camera angles and good in-game analysis that it really let's the fan see everything they were missing while at the event. Add in the parking fees, outrageously high tickets if your team happens to be good, concessions, fuel, hotel accommodations, etc. and I can see why so many are staying home and watching 8 or 10 different games instead of just the 1 you're at live. I still have season tickets for football and I absolutely love the atmosphere at live events but I totally get the staying home part. BTW, Duke is playing their final home game under Coach K this weekend and ESPN said the cheapest ticket available is $3,450. That's just insanity. WDE
  5. Using your theory, Shaq would be considered one of the best shooters ever because his FG% was always really high. But we both know that Shaq was a terrible shooter (Hack a Shaq) and his high FG% was due to dunks and put backs. Magic Johnson wasn't a good shooter. Sure, he was 81% from the line for his career but if you break down his shot chart you'll see the bulk of his points were fast break layups and shots in the paint. Magic Johnson from 15 ft and farther, was very average. Hell, his shooting form was even bad.
  6. That totally makes sense. When we were getting defensive rebounds, we kick it out to our PG and we are in transition. That goes right along with what Musselman was saying because we are deadly when we are in transition and also when we can run and gun and play loose. (I always think of those old UNLV teams or the Fab 5 at Michigan as run and gun teams). So I wonder if our defensive rebounding improved to where it was the first half of the season and we could score in transition quiet regularly, would that fix our problems enough to go deep in the tourney? The opposing team would still be able to make us run our halfcourt offense though and that's been a big problem.
  7. I've got a question for the members here who really know basketball X's and O's. After our recent loss at Arkansas, Eric Musselman said that the way to slow Auburn down is to make them run their halfcourt offense. He said that Auburn is so deadly when they're in transition and when they can run and gun on offense. He said that putting them in a halfcourt offense slows their game down and really puts it in the point guards hands to run a set offense. He said that Auburn can still beat anybody playing this slower style but they just aren't as deadly like when they run and gun. It seems like Tom Crean at Georgia was the first coach to play us this way and we beat them by 2 points, even though we struggled mightily. I guess Musselman watched that game film and decided to defend us the same way as Georgia and it worked. My question to you basketball guys is what exactly can we do to fix this and do y'all think Bruce and our guys can get it fixed in time for the NCAA Tourney? P.S. I know our rebounding is a big liability right now as well as poor shot selection at critical moments. I guess I'm just wondering if it's something our point guard's can fix since they run the offense or is it alot bigger than just them? Thanks WDE
  8. SEC Now just listed the teams that have won 25 or more games, 4 of the past 5 years and they are Auburn, Duke, Gonzaga and Belmont. WDE
  9. He is the GOAT PG but he wasn't that good of a shooter.
  10. Yep, they laughed at Smoke and said he needed to toughen up. Some others didn't even know why Smoke would let that bother him and they said Harsin shouldn't have to meet every players parents and family. Well, according to this article there were more parents ticked off about Harsin not meeting them so Smoke's parents aren't alone. Hopefully Harsin is starting to understand that building a relationship with the players and their family is a must if he is going to have us in the top 10 in recruiting every year. It seems the old dog is learning some new tricks.
  11. They're putting my ol' ticker through a workout the last 7 games or so. If they get to the Final Four or the Natty, then I'm gonna go ahead and invite the paramedics to my house and they can watch it right along side of me. 😀 WDE
  12. I agree. So many times people look at a PG and if they're averaging big points per game. A PG should never be a top scorer and if they are then his team isn't winning a title. A PG above all things has to get everyone involved and facilitate. He has to be calm under pressure and know when to get the ball to the guy that's hot, when NOT to go to a player that's cold, etc. The PG is the QB in basketball. The best ones like Magic, Stockton, Chauncey Billups, Isiah Thomas, Bobby Hurley (college) never averaged a ton of points but their teams won alot. Then the PG's who want to score first and lead the team in ppg like Iverson, Westbrook and others, never win championships. Hell, most good PG's were bad shooters like Magic, Rajon Rondo, etc. I commented a few days ago that this team is CRAVING a Jared Harper type PG that keeps his head during the biggest moments and seems to always understand who is hot and who is not. Wendell Green is a liability lately and most fans don't trust him with the ball, especially in closing seconds. If fans aren't trusting him then why is Bruce?? If we here on this board can see that Wendell is hurting us late in games and he can't run a halfcourt offense, what is Bruce seeing to keep him out there and putting the ball in his hands late? Let's beat South Carolina and finish our home season undefeated. WDE
  13. I understand why we haven't and his initials are WG
  14. Exactly. Like I commented earlier, we were #1 for 3 weeks and are leading the SEC all year for regular season title. Mississippi State should not beat us even if refs are against us. We are being killed on the boards during this rough patch of games. There's definitely other things costing us games before anybody can point to the refs. Most sports fans blame refs when their team doesn't win. It's so much deeper than that.
  15. This team was #1 for 3 weeks and are a #1 seed. With that resume, you should beat Mississippi State even if the refs aren't on your side. (I don't think our problems lately are due to refs calling too many fouls against us)
  16. I hope he does. He's one of the top 6 coaches in D1 basketball, imo.
  17. Fans were really buying into that theory, LOL. Not too many on this board believed it but on other Auburn boards they were really eating that up. Smh
  18. #16 seeds are better than Mississippi State. Mississippi State won't even get an NIT bid unless they win tonight. But I see what you're saying.
  19. The article talked about the Mars Hill Bible coach saying Harsin and Kiesau came to his school and Harsin wouldn't leave. He talked for 90 minutes. I live 10 minutes from Mars Hill Bible and they're a small school. Here is where I've got a problem with his recruiting; Mars Hill is literally 5 minutes from Florence High School. Florence has a cornerback named Jahlil Hurley that's a 5 star. He's the #3 cornerback in the 2023 class and #19 overall player in the nation. Harsin stayed at Mars Hill shooting the breeze for 90 minutes and NEVER stopped by Florence to talk with Jahlil or the coach. This has been known for awhile by players parents and coaches that he didn't drive 1 mile from Mars Hill to Florence High to talk with him. And we had an offer out to him. Auburn, Bama, Georgia, Michigan and Texas A&M to name a few offered him. A few days ago Jahlil chose Alabama and said he is "1000% committed." That's why I say that I don't think Harsin fully grasps just how important and 24/7/365 recruiting is. One would think that he could've cut the Mars Hill visit down to 30 or 45 minutes and then he and Kiesau drive 1 mile to FHS to talk and introduce themselves to Jahlil. He had an offer from us but Harsin never met or talked with Jahlil. Zac Etheridge did that part. Stuff like that is what worries me about Harsin. Roc Thomas came to here to play Florence High on a friday night. I was there and before halftime Gus and Tim Horton came and stood on the sidelines and watched for 45 minutes. They flew here to Florence to see Roc on a friday night and then flew back to Auburn and coached the next day. That's the dedication it takes to coach and recruit in the SEC.
  20. I agree 100% with what you're saying. Most fans on this forum would be livid if Bama, Kentucky, Tennessee, etc. danced on our logo and every teams logo that they play but when Auburn does it, all of the sudden it's ok and our guys are just having fun. It's classless and we look even more stupid doing it because we're losing games the past few weeks but we just keep on dancing on everyone's logos. I'm sure fans on here will downvote me and that's fine but I've seen enough on this forum through the years to know that we don't like other teams doing this stuff. It can't be ok for our guys to do it but get pissed over opponents planting flags on the 50 yard line, etc. Remember when Auburn fans were pissed about Alabama playing "Take the Money and Run or Son of a Preacher Man" over the PA at Bryant Denny as Cam came onto the field? We hate that and call them Bammers for it but we are expected just to let our guys dance on opponents logos. It's a bad look and looks even more stupid because we've gotten beat while doing it a few times. Check social media and YouTube videos of what everybody is saying about it outside of the Auburn fanbase.
  21. You aren't allowed to speak the truth about this team or you'll be called a Bammer. After our Florida loss I left a comment saying that this team is going the wrong way at the wrong time. I said we would lose to Tennessee and I said if we play Kentucky again, and if Kentucky is healthy, we will lose that game also. I was told by a few people on here that the negativity that ruins the football threads is now ruining the basketball threads. It amazes me how blind alot of fans are on this forum and they expect everybody to pump sunshine when it's raining and you can see the storm heading your way. When Zep Jasper was out sick those games, our guards were exposed and the secret is out how to beat Auburn now. Wendell Green and KD Johnson don't have a high basketball IQ. All the notoriety KD got in the middle of the season has went to his head and he seems to worry more about barking at refs and opposing student sections than he does getting back on defense. I left a comment a few days ago saying this team is craving a Jared Harper type point guard that is calm, a veteran and high basketball IQ. It's playing out about like I said it would but I'm just a negabarner and Bammer because I'm a realist and I don't pump sunshine 24/7. Just warning you about what a few on this thread will say to you.
  22. I remember when he led the Chargers in rushing yards, receiving yards, kickoff return yards and punt return yards ALL in the same season. 1985 I believe was when he did this. RIP Little Train
