  1. The Tennessean reporting this morning that Hank didn't even play on varsity until his sr year in h.s. I didn't know that. He then became a a 3 star recruit. Late bloomer? Better late then never.

Fwiw, Freeze absolutely lit into both Thorne and current receivers - calling out receivers as to why our last drive stalled. Brown's dorko former coach threw him under bus for complaining (in confidence to gis former coach) about Auburn's zero O line protection. Truth can hurt.

VanGorder looked like a shining star. I felt bad for him signing on to Chizik’s shitshow and going down with the ship. His career just seemed to trend down from there with zero mojo.

Brian van Gorder was burnt out when he came to the Plains. He was caught on film doing ridiculous things at Auburn like running onto the field to congratulate his D and getting flagged when he wrongly thought it was 4th down.

  3. Interesting articles out this week re 14 bowls - including Music City - allowing helmet & other traditionally forbidden (in college) coach to player wireless communications. We're not using it, Maryland is. SEC is considering it going forward. In light of Freeze's statement this season that he stays out of some of the O because he isn't on top of Montgomerys signal system(!), seems we'd benefit tremendously by this technology. IMHO. Apparently everybody's not sold on the helmet microphone safety yet (NFL is not your player safety poster child) but we can all thank signal-stealing-tools Michigan for advancing a discussion that might benefit us.

  4. Huge mistake if he thinks he's NFL ready. I'll never forget Robert Johnson, Auburn TE that by the end of his junior yr was hurdling would be tacklers and looking like a man. He clearly wasnt ready but was on his way. Listened to handlers who told him to go early. Didn't get drafted and is sitting on a porch now selling insurance.

  5. Cut out half of the dropped Thorne passes OR half of the wide open receivers he missed and we win 2, maybe 3 more games this year. Three drops specifically come to mind. Going all the way back to Burns at QB (ironically, later a WR coach) we've had bad luck (or whatever) having both our QB and receivers have a great game at the same time.

Freeze is the best recruiter Auburn has ever had. And he may be the best recruiter in the country period. His focus on recruiting is constant and amazing.  He actually enjoys it, unlike most coaches.  I don't think it's a big deal if you are 8th or 7th or 2nd or whatever, but consistent top ten finishes is what puts you in title contention. We appear to have found the guy who can do that.  Right now, he is landing big name recruits by selling smoke and mirrors but they see that the tide is shifting. It's really quite remarkable.

Good points. History will divide college football recruiting into two phases: pre & post NIL. IMHO Dye was our best pre NIL, Bear Bryant type, recruiter. Mario Cristobal is an example of an awesome pre NIL recruiter struggling with the recruitng-by -committee that is NIL. Everybody's still figuring it out a bit but Freeze was a ore NIL star that seems to have made he transition from silent films to talkies.😉

Yes, we laid the groundwork for 2025 as soon as the staff got here but let’s be honest. It will be extremely difficult for Auburn to ever have a number one ranked recruiting class barring winning some championships first.

Smart had #1 recruiting classes before UGa's first post-1980 natl title, yes? No reason we can't too.

I'm starting to think that Freeze isn't looking for a transfer to be QB1 next year, or even compete for the top slot. Unless some of either Geriner, Brown or White jump ship I think Freeze stands pat. If we lose some backups, he may try to get a backup QB through the portal.

This, and Freeze's comments last spring re Grayson McCall suggest his portal QB interest then was ltd to top tier program veterans wanting more NIL w/ same skill set as our young QBs - to start 2023 season & mentor/ease our youngsters into Freezeball & big time football. Mccall would have been perfect but Thorne may fit that profile so Freeze may stand pat.

  9. I'm amazed more wasn't made from the game promo end of Bob Knight saying "Auburn beating Indiana would be like a flea raping an elephant". Something after game like "flea rapes elephant" or such, certainly by BSPN or SI.
