AUBURN - In 10 weeks and a day, Auburn's football team will run through the billowing smoke and on to the field. The roar of the Jordan-Hare Stadium crowd will reverberate in their helmets. Generations of players say it is an experience like no other.

When Auburn was in the market for a new HFC after Chizik was canned, my hope was that the new coach placed a premium on conditioning and development. Schemes and talent are important but a team never reaches it's full potential unless they are conditioned to compete against the best.

The leadership that Auburn players almost unanimously say was lacking in last season's collapse has stepped to the front.

"I really have seen that moreso than I've seen in the past," Russell said. "Guys are stepping up and speaking up when I'm through speaking to the group. They are taking ownership."

Now THAT'S what we need! WDE!

I love the fact we got a coach with a trademark, or a unique but proven offensive philosophy. Gus exudes confidence and has me convinced that hes doing what needs to be done to be competitive. That includes attitude and leadership. I think its on the right track.
