What game did you really lose it?

Iron Bowl 2001: I could have strangled Tuberville with that orange shirt that he encouraged me to wear before the game.

USC 2003: I was almost escorted out of JHS for foul language. I guess that some people around me were perturbed at the fact that I kept screaming, "G*d**n embarassment" every five seconds.

The entire 1998 season. This was my freshment year at Auburn. Actually, this season wasn't frustrating. It was just plain sad.

UVA 1998

The buildup of this game was too much to handle, and the nervous excitement led to Wishbone and I drinking at sunrise. By kickoff, I remember Wishbone passed out in his own vomit, girls in nice dresses were crying around us at our behavior. At one time, a State Trooper asked us if we were good enough to keep watching the game, he rapped WB several times over the head with his maglite, I convinced the ole State T that we were fine.

Fast forward a couple of hours, I find Wishbone on the floor of my room, surrounded by half-empty cans of Natural Lite and cigarette butts. The more scary thing was that WB had is pants around his ankles and was in a “compromising position”. I asked him what the Hell he was doing, he said he was getting ready for the game. I had to tell him that we had already been there and lost 20-0, he then let out this horrible scream-like cackle, kind of like a cow giving birth, I could tell he was heartbroken, as was I, all my beer had been drank.

Runner-up was the same year when MSU kicked off the ball to us, we fumbled the opening kickoff, and MSU ran it in for a TD.

Ga. Tech 2 years ago when we didn't score a TD for the second straight game and started out 0-2 after all the hype in the pre-season. That was a miserable game.

1996 Iron Bowl.  My last game as an Auburn Student.  We had them on the ropes until the 4th quarter, and Bama game back and won by ONE point, all because Bowden tried running the Lizard up the middle on three straight downs, on three straight series.  ONE first down, and I believe we would have won.

I began calling Terry Bowden's Offense the "Prevent Offense" after that game.

hey jar: was this the game at legion field where bama jumped up 17-0, we came back to lead 20-17 at half, and 23-17 most of the 2nd half...only to have steady freddie lead bama back on the last drive w/ that dumb dump pass run approximately 18 times on that drive?

was that THAT game?

that's a 2nd in my book.

the loss that bothered me the most, and stil to this day will depress me if i think about it, was the 7-6 loss at LSU.

man this thread stinks.

ok, this is gonna sound strange, but 2003 Ole Siss/UA, at Ole Siss... i will NEVER sit in the student section at Ole Siss again. My buddy is assistant AD there, and got me free tickets for wherever i wanted to sit, and i agreed to go, but wanted to sit in student section with some friends of mine from HS. Also, i went sideline to talk with Buckles, Espy, Spencer... good friends of mine from high school. Anyways, the game went to shambles in a hurry, and i was constantly fending for myself, as my friends left early due to Ole Siss beating our brains out. The student section locked on to the fact that i was a BAMA fan (i was NOT being rude, making comments, etc) and started throwing cups, bottles, anything they could get their hands on... also started pushing me around, roughing me up, etc. It was about to start a brawl (which i'm sure i'd have gotten the worst of), until my friends show back up (bunch of Kappa Sigs) and handle the student section for me.

So i basically got into several fights because i WASN'T cheering for their team. God, that was a horrible experience, nevermind the fact we got spanked, what, 37-17? IF i never hear Hotty Toddy again, i'll be GREAT. Whoever said Rammer Jammer is the worst cheer ever has obviously not experienced Hotty Toddy 100+ times in a 3 hour span.

The only bright spot of the day was listening to "Dixie" performed in the Grove.... the Ole Siss band has got that one on lock... gives me chills again thinking about it.

oh yeah, and last year's uThug game sucked too, but that was due to the fact that their first touchdown was scored by one of my good friends, Parys Harralson. He was the one who recovered the forced fumble and ran it in for their first TD of the game (i think). I think it's great he's doing well, i just wish it wasn't at uThug.

AUWho,

How does that glass of Bitternessale taste? Sweet, sour, or flat? Not enough fizz on top? I really do wish that UA fans would quit beating the Tennessee horse to death and just get over it. Probation is over and despite some evidence to the contrary, the Tide program is recovering. If I have to listen to one more indignant UAT fan complain about Fulmer, I will scream!!

I guess the plethora of times that UAT cheated the system, cut corners, and won illegitimitely mean absolutely nothing to you. Accept it for what it is; your boys got caught and they paid the pricce. End of story. The same thing happened to AU in 1991 and I didn't complain.

There's no comparison between hotty toddy and rammer jammer. Hotty Toddy is a school pride cry, like the AU fight song. Rammer Jammer, however, is a taunting diatribe directed at the opposition. You're actually comparing flim flam, bim bam, to "we just beat the hell out of you"? Pardon me if I don't see the correlation here.

Then again, this is a bitter thread for those who still retain some negative feelings for past games so I guess that you're entitled to vent a little bit, even if the bitterness tone in your voice scores a perfect ten on a bitterness scale.

:puke: Iron Bowl 2001: :puke: still makes me sick to this day thinking about how bad that day went. By games end I was ready to execute CTT with that lovely new auburn shirt I just bought for that game, after that one I screamed and cursed so much during and after that game I had my mother going  every time she looked at me the next day which was embarrassing I let the mullet nation get to me that bad.

I try to not dwell on such things. Clearly, last season helped. However, losing to :gt: in 2003 was horrific. I've never known :au: to lose to :gt: There was no reason for anyone to expect it then, either. And then we just didn't DO anything, except get pushed around the field and run the offense as if it was an A-Day game . It was frustrating beyond words.

What year was it when we lost to UGA at JHS on the refs missing handling setting the ball so we could run another play from inside the 5 yard line. I think that was the same game that one of the UGA players jumped up on Aubie's platform and grabbed himself right in front of the student section. To say the least he got pummeled with cups and BOTTLES (some quite large, how do they get those in there???) I was so pissed at the refs.

The madest I have been at players and coaches I don't know.

The PSU bowl game that comes to mind

The MSU game at Starkville when Smoot was a DB, I know they had a good D, BUT my goodness we could nothing offensively. Totally frustrating

My vote goes to the 03 USC game. I was looking forward to that season more than I have for any season... and we just blew it completely. Then in 04 they had voters convinced that they were better than AU because USC had dominated "the SAME team" in 03. After that game I came home and nailed the USC game ticket above my door in my bedroom, convinced that we would meet again and the outcome would be different. The next season (yes, in 2004) my prediction ALMOST became reality.

but nooo because OU is.. teh best? nope.

The `92 UGA game was tough...6 or so Bulldogs flopped for over 10 seconds...home cooking just like what LSU will get come OCt. 22! They got the calls in Auburn last year and almost ruined our Season!!

I felt somewhat vindicated in 2001, when playing in Athens, we did the same thing to them (of course, had we scored in '92, we would have won. Had UGA scored in '01, it would have gone to overtime).

UF game in Gainesville (I was there)...Duval misses the chip shot field goal (it was almost an extra point and he'd NEVER missed one of those)....

The Citrus Bowl (I was there) a few years ago...or as I like to call it...the "We don't call intentional grounding in the Pac 10" game, against Michigan. The Pac 10 refs let Michigan hold the entire game too. We lost 31-28, I believe. We were killing them with the pass...so Mazzone quit passing as soon as we got the lead.

The 31-7 loss to Bamar....(I was there)

And over the years there have been a few more.... :)

No doubt, GT in 03. I spent a few hours pre-game at Jocks-and-Jills on Tenth and Peachtree downing pitchers with my Auburn buddies, and then rode the bus over to the stadium. Several of us from work had club suites (behind the AU bench), and the club area under the stands had an open bar. As it turns out, the seats next to us were occupied by my wife's roommate from her junior year, who had brought a bottle in of their own. So, I was pretty much in a mood to be feeling no pain.

Their must have been 30,000 Auburn folks there - with all the orange we seemed to outnumber the bumblebees, and I had been unabashed in annointing the place as our house and proclaiming an orange-and-blue christening for their new "expansion" up to 54,000 seats. (In hindsight, I probably deserved a loss that day for being obnoxious).

The front row was separated from the AU bench by a three feet high brick wall, and is maybe only eight yards off the sideline. One of my co-workers has a picture of me leaning over the brick wall at the field yelling exhortations at Hugh Nall while he gathers up the line. (All I wanted was him to put in a fullback and blow that DL off the line - screw that one-back offense where Carnell had to make a guy miss in the backfield every play). I was ready to go to the buses and have them throw Nallsminger off and grab Patrick Nix back from the GT sideline.

Most of the other engineers I work with are GT grads, so it just made it that much worse. But they actually weren't too bad about it the next week - some didn't even know who won the game! (I'm so glad AU engineers are well-rounded)

As I recall, Reggie Ball ran his mouth a bit after that game - I hope McGlover and Groves get plenty of face time with him on 9/3. Man, thinking about this is making me want to smack one of these GT pencilnecks. Come on, nip!

Without a doubt the 2001 Iron Bowl. I'm usually considerate of others sitting around me and try to watch my language. That day I was not. I was letting every cuss word fly and didn't care who was around. Some of you said you could have killed Tuberville that day. I could have killed the entire team. I just could not believe they would let a 4-5 Alabama team come into their house and dominate them. As I walked back to my car, I cussed any bama fan that said a word. Three wins in a row have healed some of my wounds but that day changed me forever. I will NEVER get over it. :puke:

My #2 is USC in 2003. Going in with all of the hype and not even denting the scoreboard. I admit that I was letting the four letter words fly that day as well. The difference for me between the 2001 Iron Bowl and 2003 USC was, (A) It wasn't bama and ( B) atleast the defense played well. :puke:

WTF are you talking about? Where did i say anything about Fulmer?? I'm INDIGNANT?? read the post again... I was just saying that it was ironic that at a TIME when UT is not my favorite team to play (because of our record against them), one of my good friends scored that kind of touchdown against us... so get over it, and get off my back...

i'm actually one of the fans who are just glad that this ridiculous trial and media attention is over. We haven't been able to get on with proving we are one of the better teams in the SEC, until now. With all the negative media attention that we have garnered over the past several years, with all the allegations and stories about the trial, and the NCAA documents, etc, we have not been able to strictly focus on what is important, WINNING FOOTBALL GAMES.

so, to you, "great alex", step off... bitch at someone who really is complaining about what you claim i am complaining about... i'm sure "fans" over at Ti.com are doing just that...

Thought about this some more, and I guess I had wiped this one game from my memory. ( and for good reason ) The WORST game for me where I indeed did lose it was the 1986 hose game vs :uga:

:uga: was w/ out their starting qb, and :au: was stomping mad from the last second loss to :uf: ( thanks, McGinty - dork ) It was a night game and the beach balls were flying. Despite a 99 yrd drive ( and thanks to an early whistle on Brent Fullwood ), we lost 20-16.

Too much fire water before and during the game. B)

I have to agree with the 1999 Miss State game. That was the most terrible ending to any football game that I have seen on any level. ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE for losing that game. 2nd place would be USC @J-H. :puke:
