PF, what can I say ?  He wasn't even a thought, but now that you mention him I'll gladly listen to the replay so that I don't miss a single whining UpDyke.  Thanks for the reminder aubiefifty.

Btw, I texted "SCHOCKER" to one of my best friends who's an UpDyke.  His reply was "maybe not".  Is there something more going on in T'ville ?

I hope it's just a regular checkup for you at the doctor Fifty. Hope nothing is wrong.

tipper it has been epic today and i rejoice in their whining. a know they have a couple of decent fans because they are friends of mine but most turd fans do not love bama they love winning. remember when jalen lost a game for them and some bama fans came out calling him the "N" word.it is laughable but it is so screwed up. when i was working if auburn lost i rocked an auburn shirt the following monday. they asked me why i wore the shirt and i told them they would never understand.

I just hope bama doesn't fire Saban and hire Harsin, just to show us that it was an Auburn problem. Please bama, don't do it! That would totally suck for us as Auburn fans!

Fifty, my father started having sleep apnea around 2015. He's a really overweight guy and is 67 now so he was about 59 then. He snored for years but never gasped for air. My mother began noticing every night that he would stop breathing for a few seconds, then gasp and then would always roll over everytime. Same thing all night. So at his work, he had 5 coworkers in the same office at all times. They would say "You are snoring. You're falling asleep for a few seconds and you gasp and snore." He is very hardheaded and never believed it. Then months later he began falling asleep at red lights for a few seconds, then gasp for air and wake up.

In July 2017 he had to have a heart bypass surgery and when he was in CCU they said they need to put a Bipap machine on him and he was on one for the rest of his hospital stay. He immediately did a sleep study and then they sent the order into Milner Rushing Drugs and I went and picked it up and they had to train me on it. Dad couldn't get around much due to his bypass recovery so that's why I had to pick it up and then I showed him how to use it. It literally saved his life. The doctors said he would've definitely died in his sleep before too much longer because it was progressing so much.

Dad always used to complain constantly that he was tired and always sore. He was so sore when he would wake every morning. I told the man that showed me how to use the Bipap about Dad being tired and sore. He said "His sleep study said he averaged rolling over every 45 seconds all night long. He was getting an 8 hour workout and didn't even know. That's why he was so sore and he was always tired and falling asleep at work because he wasn't getting real sleep. Even though he doesn't know he turns over every 45 seconds because he is technically asleep, it's not a real sleep."

It all made sense and he has done SOOOO much better since getting put on the Bipap machine. It is different than a Cpap machine but still very similar. You can Google the difference.

If you have any questions, feel free to shoot me a PM. Keep me updated and I'll be praying for you brother.

I was diagnosed with mild obstructive sleep apnea about 13 years ago. They prescribed a CPAP machine. I just could never get used to it. I tried different masks, nasal pillows, etc. it ramps up slowly, but eventually gets to where it was just too uncomfortable, and hard to exhale. I probably should have asked for a BiPAP (BTW, CPAP is continuous pressure, BiPAP lets off so that you can exhale easier). There were rare times (BEFORE the sleep study) where I would wake up gasping for air. Nowadays, I just sleep on my side, and I don't notice anything. I don't think I snore. My wife hasn't complained. I've also lost over 20 pounds this year (don't remember what my weight was back when I had the study), and that definitely helps.

There are other solutions for apnea. I should probably see a sleep specialist again.

Yikes. I know the feeling, but that only happened a couple of times with me. Feels like you're suffocating.

Do you sleep on your back? And are you overweight? Just curious.

Good luck!

i am type two diabetic. i am 296.  my feet swell up so bad some days i can barely walk to the bathroom. my kidneys are overworking but i may not have been hydrating enough. they say the sleep thing damahes your heart as well as inducing a heart attack. if you have good insurance i hope you get it seen about. and they say getting oxygen makes you just feel better. it must be true because they used to sell oxygen shots in Panama City for five bucks a pop. i believe they help make a hangover go away but all that is hear say. but go get something done if you can. the panic part for me is horrible because you wake up thinking you are dying.............

Sorry, man. Hope things get better for you. At least you're seeing a doctor about it, that's the best thing to do. Weight loss (if possible) and sleeping on your side might help as well. (That's not medical advice, BTW).

I only had the gasping thing once or twice, and that hasn't happened in several years. I probably should have another sleep study done though, and see what they find, and what my options are. Thanks.

I remember my grandmother on my Mom's side used a Cpap machine. She had congestive heart failure. When my mom told her that my dad was gasping all the time for air while asleep, my grandma offered her Cpap machine to my dad. The reason I tell this is because that is pretty stupid that she was offering him that. People just can't swap out machines. The sleep center sets all of the patients settings and pressures, which you know I'm sure. If the patient gains 20 lbs or so, the tech has to reset new settings. Same if you lose weight. My Dad said he only sleeps on his sides. He still struggles a bit to breathe if he tries sleeping on his back.

I had heard about sleep apnea but when the guy at Milner Rushing took me through the whole course of operating it, cleaning it, etc., that's when I realized sleep apnea is nothing to play around with. It's dangerous as heck. I've got a good friend and his mother had congestive heart failure. She was 69 yrs old. She used a Cpap. She struggled with episodes of her oxygen getting really low in her blood and she would be put in ICU for a week then go home. Then her husband told me that they were sleeping one night and he heard her get up to pee at 4:15 a.m. She got back in bed and he fell back asleep and so did she. He woke at 5:30, just an hour and 15 minutes after she had pee'd, and he noticed her mask was lying beside her and she hadn't put it back on after she went to the bathroom. He nudged her to tell her to put it on and she was dead. That fast. It was due to not putting her mask back on.

Yep. What scares me about my Dad is he keeps his machine on a nightstand beside their bed. He is retired now and he does alot of TV watching in his recliner in their living room and you know how that is. It's very easy to just doze off for a few minutes all through the day. But his machine isn't in the living room with him and I always try to remind him when we talk, to go get on his machine if he thinks he may doze off and on for awhile or take a 2 hour nap.

There are videos on YouTube and they show actual footage of sleep studies. There is one guy on a video and he would stop breathing for up to a minute and then when he would finally breathe it was a huge, dramatic gasp everytime. It's kinda hard to watch because it truly looks like the person is suffocating and they don't even know it.

Don't you live alone Fifty? I think I've read posts where you mentioned living by yourself. That would scare me if I had sleep apnea and no Cpap machine and I lived alone. Hopefully they'll get you fixed up and it will fix those issues. Restless sleeping just plain sucks and wears you down over time.

Sleep Apnea will raise your blood pressure which can damage your heart. I had a sleep study because my blood pressure was high and since I was relatively young, my doctor thought it was likely caused by sleep apnea. It ended up I do have sleep apnea so I have had a cpap for about ten years. I like my cpap because I use a full face mask that covers my nose and mouth and the cool air on my face helps me go to sleep quicker. Some nights I fall asleep while watching TV and it is a noticeable difference the next day with how tired I am from not wearing my mask that night. If you end up getting a cpap, as long as you can get used to it, it should make you feel a lot better.

Something just seems off about Saban now. His team is very undisciplined, his DB's are getting burnt like crazy, his O-Line was embarrassed by that Texas D-Line, his QB is really bad at seeing the field. That Texas game ended with a Bama defender jumping offsides. They had 10 penalties against Texas and not one time did Saban yell or change his expression. He's just not the same coach on the sidelines that he used to be. I just hope nothing is wrong health wise. After games, he will be asked about certain plays or schemes from the game and sometimes he can't remember the play. Bobby Bowden and Paterno were that way too. Struggled to remember certain parts of the game they just finished.

Alabama is now 4-3 the last 7 times they've played a Power 5 team. The last 6 times he has faced a former assistant coach under him, he is 3-3. He started 25-0 against his former assistants.

Remember in 1982, Bear Bryant had Bama ranked #5 halfway through the season? They ended up losing 4 of their final 5 games and Bear retired and died shortly thereafter.
