Stanley McClover

He's been battling an ankle injury most of the year. He has been playing, but it gets sore or tweaked sometimes in games so he hasn't been full time. He's also having to get used to being an every down player. Last season, Eddins played on most "running" downs and McClover came in for pass rushing. He's working on his run defense and it's an adjustment from just pinning your ears back and chasing the QB.

Your right.. I haven't noticed him. In his defense, I only watched in full, the LSU game and the Georgia Tech game. I guess i had it in my mind that he was to be a huge impact player this year and I just haven't heard his name mentioned on sports shows and on here when people are discussing our defense. I was curious if he was injured or if he was simply just not having a great year..

stanley's not to blame for it seeming like he's played poorly, and i'm not talking about his injury. he was unfairly tabbed as a preseason all-sec tab. i say unfairly because he didn't go out of put himself on those lists, and the media simply put him there because he was charismatic and fun... not because of what he did on the field.

it's not his fault that people put expectations on him. and it's unfair to try to hold him to those expectations. he played a lot against ole miss. he had a few good looking plays where he flushed the qb out and forced a throw away. he had some pretty good plays against the run (i remember one in particular where he crashed his side of the line and forced the runner in... that's the kind of play he didn't or couldn't make at the start of the year). i'm actually more excited about him as an all-around player now than i was at the start of the year.

another problem he's got is the guys in front of him. gunn has separated himself as the best of that group of four. by a wide margin. groves and mcclover seem to be the same guy, and browder was a better run stuffer than either of them before he got hurt. i noticed that he didn't play a whole lot against ole miss. i hope we get him right before amen corner because we're going to need all four of them.

The answer is, we're playing a lot of zone this year. Not as much blitzing as last year, due to the zone D...also giving us one less guy in the box, thus, more O-linemen to pick up the D ends.

Stanley has been battling injuries for the better part of the season. I think the "hype" machine may have been a bit in high gear for him as well as the other DE going into the season. They are still young and will get better, There is still a ton of football left to be played THIS year and I do believe he will make his presence known in the last three games. :)

I my view, he has been roaming in the opposition's backfield most of the season and the quartback has been running the other way. He is not making the spectaculary sacks like he did last year but his presence is definitely felt.

I wish we would blitz more though.

Good point!

He was an Freshman All SEC pick after last year. Most of us (myself included) promptly promoted him to All SEC, All American & All Pro. It's a little different being an every down run/pas defender instead of a pass rush specialist. Stanley has all the tools to be a very good player and he also has the desire. If I/we give him time to mature, get stronger, add weight and learn all he needs to learn.
