Guest Frank Burns
When you're making that type of money, credit usually isn't an issue.
WinCrimson 61
I guess this keeps Gottfried from becoming the Dean (Martin) of SEC coaches?
drewau02 0
Billy Donovan took the Magic job for the almighty dollar. There's no shame in that. All of us would agree to take another job if that job offered us a substantial raise in pay. I think that he should have tried to make it work in Orlando. He could have discovered that he liked the pro game much better than the college game. He could have liked working the draft more than barnstroming America recruiting high school kids. Heck, given some time he could have won a championship and been in the elite category of coaches such as Larry Brown who have won titles in both college and the NBA. Even if things didn't work out in the pros, Donovan could have gone back to the college game and had a choice of any coaching gig he wanted. However, to play devil's advocate here, I don't think that Billy Donovan will ever see a better situation than he has at the University of Florida. The fans love him. He's got two titles in the bag. Recruiting is better now than ever. Donovan has a chance at Florida to win another national title or two, surpassing coaches like Bobby Knight, Dean Smith, and coach K. If this happens, then Donovan will go down as one of the greatest coaches of all time. Furthermore, coaching college is probably more enjoyable, in my opinion. It's less business oriented than the NBA and you get to teach the game of basektball to young men.

That is why Tubby won't take the Dallas Cowboys job, Alabama and the Mississippi schools aren't in the NFC East.
