Another Bammer Arrested

The Prowler

Wow, just a part of the "Process" I guess.

Indeed, it is what it is, unless they need him to play/start and then they will wait on the Ice Cream truck to arrive.

Funny that you bring that up. All the AU kids always marvel at our number of drinking holes.

That's because uat is sooooooooo much better than Auburn.

Is that what you were looking for?

I wasn't implying that at all. I'd be the last person to say that you should decide on a school based on the number of bars in the city...

They're just always shocked to see how many establishments there are here. That's all.

He's lucky he didn't get nailed for assault or resisting arrest.

He would have any where but tuscaloosa.

Boogereater, you are right on brother. Who was it that pounded me about what a great cop force Tuskaloser has - how they wouldn't favor a bammer football fart?

If you pushed down a security guard and tussled with cops enough to cut a cop's knee, do you think you would be charged with disorderly conduct?? What if you were an AU student wearing an AU shirt with the traditional "Bear's Dead" tatoo??

This is an outrage. This is why many lack respect for our criminal justice system. There's a different law for certain folks. I hope the DA ups the charges.

the strip has changed dramatically since i was a student ... and i think they are trying to improve the area some, which is meeting with resistance from some of the others...all this i pick up 2nd hand...perhaps someone there now can elaborate.

it's not an unsafe area at all...at least i never felt unsafe there at any time of the day (granted, i wasn't there at 3am much).

as far as the current episode:

kids drink

kids do dumb stuff

high profile kids get their dumb stuff published all across America.

of particular interest will be what saban does.

The Bama fans on here are reasonable bloggers. I am seriously worried about Bama becoming another Miami/FSU. You guys need to start demanding that CNS set stiff guidelines regarding where and who these players can be involved. I realize some of these guys are 21, but there is a huge negative element ssomewhere and only the coach can clean house, set strict ground rules and enforce stiff penalties. At this point anything else is gambling with losing the team.

The first few times this happened under CNS was good fodder for AU fans to poke at Bama. I really don't want to see this happen, I'm getting embarrassed for our rival and would rather respect them.

Why...they're Bamars. I lived in a house full of them. To get respect, you have to give it...and they don't give it. (BG, et al excluded)....

I don't know about "clubs." I don't think any have a "club" feel to them. But yeah, there are a ton of bars on the Strip and in Temerson Square.

Funny that you bring that up. All the AU kids always marvel at our number of drinking holes.

Whatever. Having to be 21 to get into any place whatsoever is lame to be honest. At least in Auburn, you can actually go out with people and not have to sit home in your dorm dreaming about beating Auburn again one day.

I must say, as much as I dislike Saban, I figured when he got to Bama he would instill some discipline on his players. He has always seemed to be such a harda##, I figured anyone who was caught breaking rules would be dead meat. Boy was I wrong. This guy is starting to make Barry Switzer look like a Marine drill sargeant.

Saban has never cared about off the field issues. He had a similar track record at MSU and LSU. Lots of arrests - no suspensions.

I'm sure this is some how Shula's fault after all he had 1 player arrest in his four-year tenure and Saban has now had eight in 14 months.

I love that the Press Register mentioned of the eight players arrested under Saban's reign the only one who has been suspended was a walk-on. No scholarship players have missed a single game.

And, no, the Strip isn't necessarily a dangerous place. I spend a lot of time down there and unless someone does something amazingly stupid, few problems ever occur.

So no Bama students were murdered there just a few years ago? So the TPD do not have to put extra patrols in this area of town because of the amount of violence including a strong gang presence?

All “nightlife” districts like the French Quarter, Toomer's Corner, or outside of the South like the Heymarket District in Lincoln, NE come with a certain amount of boorish behavior that police have to deal with. However, the Strip in T-town is the most violent area of the most violent community in the state. Oh, yeah, it is the most violent city in America with a population of 100,000 or less.

Although there are a lot of great places on the Strip and there is a lot of fun to be had there, one must remember that it is a dangerous place to be and honestly that is part of the appeal.

Yeah....I go on Al.com and swap licks with Bammers all the time. It just seems that the bamafans on THIS blog are more reasonable, therefore I tried a reasonable discourse on the issue. I grew up a Bama fan in Alabama during the 60's-70's. I got suspended for tearing up a punt bama "punt bumper sticker". The AU Building Science program is one of the top 4 in the US, I went to AU to study that and became an AU fan. I live in No. Ga, but still care about my home state. This stuff is embarrassing to UAt, State of Alabama and the SEC.

Instead of coming on here and getting into little arguments to deflect the heat, why don't you give us a good reason why over 10% of the Tide has been arrested since your messiah's arrival? <_<

Sorry, I just can buy into the "It's The Legacy's fault", 'The Tuscaloosa PD picks on students on the Strip", "The Strip is inherently dangerous", and/or "Boys will be boys, particulary after a few drinks" BS I hear being mouthed by many of the Crimson persuasion. I've partied on the Strip for many years, and often drank more than necessary there as a younger man before maturity and/or an aging liver moderated my consumption.

Never once have I come close to arrest. Or course, I never argued with bouncers to get my underage girlfriend into a club (a la Deaderick & Co.), nor interrupted traffic flow and shouted obscene tirades on the street (as apparently S. Castille was charged for), nor shoved a bouncer as he tried to escort a friend out at closing (like R Johnson). And no amount of alcohol would excuse me arguing with police, struggling with police, giving the police a fake name like "Thomas Crown", or head-butting the window of a patrol car. Don't blame the establishment, the neighborhood, or the police for this sort of behavior--the vast majority of patrons on the Strip don't do things like this to run afoul of the law!

I totally agreee, and as a Bama fan am quite embarrassed. I can only speak for myself, but I think that we should go with the no tolerance rule. If you are arrested you are kicked off the team, and should it cost you to get back on the team. If it's missing 5 games(minimum number) then so be it, and be the standard policy.I think that the strip should be off limits to all players until a time in which they can show that they are mature enough to go out and have a good time, but behave themselves.

Some of these kids grew up with no disclipine, and are truly needing it, and if they don't get this from thier college coach then they will never get it, and look at the trouble they will have with the rest of their lives.

I got into an argument today with another Bama fan, when I gave my opinion on this. I was told that we could not win if we cut players like this, and if we had the no tolerance plan, then top recruits would not come here and we would never win another championship. I thought that I believed in winning "no matter what the cost", but I can no longer believe this. I am embarassed and I don't want my University to be known as Thug U. I also want someone to be able to talk with these guys and instruct them as to what they could be throwing away, for themselves.

I know that we pay Coach Saban a lot of money to run our program, and how he does it is up to him, but if he does not do something soon to bring disclipine, then I can't agree with his methods. I guess I am just of the old school, and I want them to fear and respect their coach. I want them to hate getting in trouble, because it will disappoint their coach, and I want them to respect how the fans feel. We pay a lot of money to the university by purchasing tickets, travel expenses, buying Bama merchandise, and we want a winning team, but we also want a team that we can respect. We want players that we want our kids to get autographs from, and to want to wear a jersey with their numbers on it.

While we enjoy being able to pick on Bama about this... is anyone else getting sick of these kids wasting oppurtunities to improve their lives?

Every spring its a nationwide thing for college athletes to get in some type of trouble for just being stupid.

Go to class, go to practice, walk away from trouble and stay out of places you know that trouble is bound to happen. It's not that hard.

Seriously, man. I want nothing but the best for UA and everything associated with it. However, that love doesn't blind me to whatever shortcomings we may have -- be it player arrests, Gottfried's Xs and Os, or Eli Gold.

I'm the most objective fan you'll ever meet.
