Godby DB T.J. Davis commits to Auburn

By Jim Lamar

One of the Big Bend’s top football prospects made his college choice early Tuesday afternoon.

Godby High defensive back T.J. Davis committed to Auburn University, choosing the Tigers over Notre Dame, Alabama, Florida State and TCU (among others).

Godby coach Ronnie Cottrell said Davis informed Auburn coaches at 2:30 p.m. of his decision.

“He had offers from all over the country, but he chose Auburn,” Cottrell said.

Davis, a cornerback, is rated a three-star prospect and the No. 55 overall prospect in Florida by Rivals.com.

He becomes the fifth Cougar to commit to a Division I school, joining tight end Laith Harlow (Oklahoma), quarterback Dennis Andrews (Georgia Tech), receiver Brandon Holifield (Miami) and defensive end/linebacker Jakarri Thomas (Arkansas).

Davis hopes to major in either communications or business. He reports a 3.1 core GPA and 17 ACT, which he plans to retake.

Davis is a rangy, scheme versatile defense back with a lot of value when projecting for the college level. Has good height and length for either corner or safety. Will likely start his career off out on the perimeter

By Corey Long, ESPN Recruiting

Four-star defensive back T.J. Davis (Tallahassee, Fla./Godby) is down to six.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder has trimmed his list of schools to Florida State, Ohio State, Auburn, Alabama, TCU and Notre Dame.

Davis has already planned official visits to Auburn on Oct. 14, when the Tigers play Florida, and to Notre Dame a week later for its game against USC.

Still no confirmation from AU guys. Hmm...

He wouldn't be the first one, or even the first one this year, to commit when he didn't have a commitable offer. The guys at Rivals, Scout and 247 are normally all over a real, accepted commitment.

Official...

Godby (Tallahassee, Fla.) cornerback T.J. Davis has committed to Auburn. The 6-0, 180-pound Davis is the Tigers' 15th commitment in '12.

@AuburnRivals

TJ Davis got off the phone with Gene Chizik and Curtis Luper not 15 minutes ago. "They just said if I'm committed, then they're committed."

His high school coach was Ronnie Cottrell who was recruiting coordinator at Alabama.

The money quote...

"Auburn has got a really special guy here," Cottrell said. "Curtis Luper did a great job representing Auburn and recruiting our school. It's no surprise why they recruit well, they have an outstanding staff there."

One of the more impressive offer list for a '3-star' I've seen...

I dont believe he has firm offers from a lot of the schools he "lists" as having offers from.

Looks like at least FSU really wanted him:

FSU lost a local recruiting battle to Auburn for Tallahassee (Fla.) Godby senior DB T.J. Davis. Davis committed to Auburn Tuesday, selecting the Tigers over FSU, Notre Dame and TCU, among others.
