Alabama, Auburn baseball endure droughts during SEC golden age

As the SEC enjoys its golden era with three straight national titles, Alabama and Auburn watch from the dugout. They are saddled with recruiting disadvantages and, in some cases, outdated facilities. And they have been surpassed by several SEC programs in fan interest and on-field success.

College baseball at Auburn has up and went away. The somewhat questionable hiring and subsequent somewhat questionable firing of Steve Renfroe has been followed by two very unfortunate hirings and as of yet, only one firing.

Some of the disadvantages mentioned in the article are true, but if Vandy, which has all those disadvantages and more can be in last year's CWS, there's no reason Auburn can't be there.

The first thing we need at Auburn is a manager that understands when to bunt and when to hit-away, when to leave a pitcher in and when to take him out. We need a manager that can train baserunners to not casually stroll around on the bases and get picked off. That would solve a lot and nothing else will matter very much until those fundamental, in-game situations are corrected.

The coaching decisions I agree with, but Mikey we both know if a kid is in college and playing baseball at that level he KNOWS not to 'casually stroll around the bases'. That's something that should have been learned in little league.
