Ben Jones Named To ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First Team

Senior outfielder Ben Jones has been named to the ESPN

The Magazine Academic All-District 4 First Team, it was announced by the

College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday morning.

Jones, from Decatur, carries a 3.84 GPA in mechanical engineering. A

starter for the first time this season, he is hitting a career-best .294

in a career-high 180 at bats. He has already surpassed his first three

year totals in runs (33), hits (53), doubles (10), triples (1), home

runs (10) and RBI (45) while starting 46 out of 49 games this season

after making just 23 starts over his first three years.

A two-time Academic All-SEC selection (2007, 2008) and an ESPN The

Magazine Academic All-District 4 First Team selection in 2008 and a

Second Team choice in 2007, Jones was the only position player in the

Southeastern Conference to be named to a district first team. He will

now be placed on the national ballot to be named a CoSIDA Academic

All-America.
