AUSportTalk 4
Senior outfielder Ben Jones has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 4 First Team, it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday morning. Jones, from Decatur, carries a 3.84 GPA in mechanical engineering. A starter for the first time this season, he is hitting a career-best .294 in a career-high 180 at bats. He has already surpassed his first three year totals in runs (33), hits (53), doubles (10), triples (1), home runs (10) and RBI (45) while starting 46 out of 49 games this season after making just 23 starts over his first three years. A two-time Academic All-SEC selection (2007, 2008) and an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 4 First Team selection in 2008 and a Second Team choice in 2007, Jones was the only position player in the Southeastern Conference to be named to a district first team. He will now be placed on the national ballot to be named a CoSIDA Academic All-America.
