JwgreDeux 1,279
The days of a touchback every time are over with the kick off being moved back a few years ago. Therefore, the average starting position is going to be beyond the 20 yard line unless the return unit is completely inept. However, we still need the strongest leg on our team doing the kicking and the coaches aren't going to let WB kick to protect his NFL stock unless he is the best at the job. I don't want to take a redshirt off of KP unless he is heads and shoulders above WB and CB.

The KO spot was moved back because (just like every other position in modern football) the kids are getting bigger, and stronger. They are better coached with more refined techniques. There are plenty of kickers with the leg out there, they are just harder to find. a side note.... We had a FG kicker in high school (back in the 80's) that consistantly hit 55+ yarders as a Sophomore. Off a tee of course, but he could ring it at 60+ . he hit a 62+ in a game once, and had plenty of room He was the Bo Jackson of FG kickers. His dad died before his JR year, and he gave up football. he was the only one on our team with D-1 talent.
