Am I the only one who thinks we look like Texas in 2005?

Texas had a excellent offense that seemed like it scored on every drive

but their defense did just enough to win, there was a bunch of games that they won by really close margins(I think OKState and Baylor were 2 of them)

i dont remember Texas defense being quite dominant yet they went to the title game and won(and their defense wasnt exactly stopping USC either)

ive had it in the back of my mind awhile but i cant help but notice the similarities(especially considering Gene Chizik coached defense for Texas that year)

Not at this point Desmo. Texas beat everyone they played that year by double digits except for @ Ohio State and USC in the Rose Bowl. Their defense was also in the top ten in pretty much every category with multiple All-Americans in Michael Huff, Cedric Griffin, and Michael Griffin, etc. Their offense set a single season scoring record.

Last, and most importantly, thye didn't play in the SEC. They only had one test before the NCG, Ohio State, it will be much harder for us to roll through our schedule.

PS. Vince Young can't hold Cam's jock.

Actually that UT defense gave up just 5 fewer points per game than what Auburn has this year. Also keep in mind that Auburn stats are against a lot stiffer competition than that of a weak Big 12-2.

If you look what the poster was saying and think about the general philosophies of both teams (i.e A team that leans more or less on its shotgun offense rather than its defense, with a bigtime QB that can tote the rock and lead the team in rushing (and the SEC for that matter)), then yes both teams are very comparable.

... I see a few 0's and 3's on that list of texas's oppenets scores. Our defense isn't quite there yet... lol

Against those Baylor, ULL, and Colorado teams? I like our chances.

.... Colorado just beat UGA who we haven't beaten since I was like 3. And scored 29 points on them to boot.

.... and Baylor would light our @ss up on defense. Not sure about LLU?!

And how does that apply to their 2005 teams?

Btw, can you be a little more dramatic about a defense that is giving up 21 ppg and is ranked in upper 3rd of total defenses in the country.

I don't think that a 7 year old should be speaking that way.  :o

this is basically what i was getting at, not necessarily from a numbers standpoint but a philosophy standpoint

i dont remember that Texas defense being a beat you at the LOS type defense like Tubs ran but a bend dont break style similar to what we have now that thrived off turnovers

couple in the offensive similarity(HUNH being the difference) i think Chizik is copying the same idea, i just think our talent on both sides of the ball arent quite Texas 05 levels
