  1. Long Snapper, Brian Brinsfield deserves an honorable mention in 93. Jim Fyffe literally voted him 1st place in the Heisman for never having a bad snap that season to Etheridge or Daniel, who were both invaluable to 11-0.

And in 13 years of calling football, if Jim Fyffe believed a Long Snapper was worthy of the Heisman, you know he was pretty damn good.

Drop it this has nothing to do with the OP. If you want to discuss SW start another thread.

Oh right. Only POSITIVE White comments on this forum, injuries and all.

Start another White thread and you get banned. Unreal how you guys defend a Sun Belt QB.

Can't wait till you guys dismiss Stidham's 30+ passing TD passes this season by saying "Oh but Sean could have done the same thing had he been in Lindsay's system."

10 TOTAL passing TDs in TWO seasons notwithstanding. Oh wait...he got injured 98 Bazillion times. Such a reliable guy.

He was coming off the Arkansas injury and still in a knee brace. The argument at hand is whether or not Sean White is an effective RED ZONE passer. All of the plays you referenced were between the 20s. I personally think that Sean is a capable passer albeit one with limited physical tools who has had the misfortune of playing in a schematically inept offense (at least, from a passing standpoint) for the past two years. If you'd like to make an argument that this isn't the case, by all means but at least make a cogent argument. Stringing a handful of clips together free of any context and framing them as a "mic drop" indictment of SW abilities or lack thereof isn't an argument.

So you purposely ignored the red zone pass intended for Manute Bol? Oh wait...I cherry-picked that one too.

Not that I'm necessarily a SW apologist or anything but I hardly think that cherry picking three throws (none of which were in the red zone) from games in which it is quite well known that Sean was significantly injured makes whatever point it is that you're trying to make.

Was he injured in the Memphis game? Proof please. The infinite excuse as to why White under-performs.

Cherry picking THREE throws, TWO of them which were pick sixes? I DID provide a red zone pass that was intended for Manute Bol. Would you like for me to cherry pick more inexcusable throws? Just let me know as there's more where that came from.

    I mean...

It's really bizarre to me how much weight that MSU pick- on Sean's first ever possession as a college QB- still carries with people. Just another example of people seeing what they want to see, I guess.

I gotcha. Appreciate the level headedness and response.

Always was. My posts were never to say Lindsey is a product of Gus. However, absolutely Lindsey was Gus' fall-back plan because of familiarity.

While I agree with most, I disagree with the notion of Lindsey being a "Gus guy". He worked for a Gus for a year as a analyst. When you hear "Coaching tree" or Gus' tree, names that come to mind are Herb Hand and Lashlee. Nobody prior to being hired by Gus this past week, looked at CCL as a "Gus guy".

Not saying Lindsey is a "Gus guy" or is in Gus' "coaching tree." Merely stating Gus already put enough faith in him to hire him once, so it's no shock he would do it again.

Gus never hired Hand at Tulsa. They were merely colleagues hired by Todd Graham, who ironically, also hired Lindsey, thus that small Gus fraternity is alive and well.

Gus wouldn't have got his 1st choice even if he had clout.

So you're telling me, for example, if Saban wanted Art Briles as his OC, his PTB wouldn't have allowed it?

If your TRUE unbiased answer is no they wouldn't have allowed it, then you need to learn what "clout" means.

I thought the point was that he keeps putting himself with people he's worked with before? If Gus couldn't get the guy he wanted, how is it Gus' fault? I'll hang up and listen.

His 1st choice was obviously another "Muschamp"...a proven guy outside the Gus tree.

Otherwise, he would have hired Lindsey almost immediately after Lashlee left. No?

Obviously, Gus hired his fall-back guy.

I'm not saying Gus didn't aim high. That's what some of you are mistaken on.

All coaches aim high. Gus doesn't have the clout anymore to get his 1st choice.

Thus, he HAS to rely on fall-back guys.

    THAT'S the point.

    Feel free to call back.

Like everyone else in college football. You get that right? Butch Jones? Worked with 4/9 of his staff at UT prior. Nick Saban? Same thing 4/9. Kirby Smart? 5/9 of his staff. Jim Mcilwain? 3/9. I could go on but I won't. It's not a new thing to surround yourself with people who you've worked with and "familiarity" y'all need to wake up.

The point is Gus couldn't get who he really wanted and instead, got his fall-back guy, a guy he knew all along would crawl from AZ to AU to become OC.

  11. 4 minutes ago, Auctoritas said:

...wat? You're openly criticizing the hire by insinuating that familiarity is a bad thing. Or, have we switch around definitions, and now "yes man" is a good thing?

AGAIN...when have I said Lindsey was a minus or a negative hire?

    I haven't.

What I DID say is Gus couldn't get who he really wanted and instead, got his fall-back guy.

  12. Just now, Auctoritas said:

So what? Familiarity doesn't necessarily lead to "yes man." THAT'S the reach.

I would submit that familiarity with the system (particularly in a year we played for a national championship) is a plus, not a minus. That means he's had experience AND several years out from under Gus to think about it and the players don't have to start from scratch with a new OC - because, you know, that would probably mean a down year.

Which is what you people want anyway. I have never seen a fan base pull so hard for someone to fail. It's pretty disgusting.

When have I said this was a minus or a negative hire? I haven't. Stop insinuating otherwise.

It's another familiar "yes" man hire because Gus couldn't hire who he really wanted, thus the wait.

    Lindsey was a fall-back plan.

  13. 2 hours ago, metafour said:

And that makes him a "Yes man"? OK, bud.

I don't think that Lindsey leaves Arizona State so that he can fetch Malzahn's coffee here, if that is what you are implying.  As someone who himself rose through the levels, Lindsey has pride just like Malzahn does.

Never said coffee-fetcher or doesn't have pride.

    Stop fabricating lies.

Gus surrounded himself with another familiar hire AGAIN, bud.

  14. 10 minutes ago, metafour said:

He's not from the Malzahn tree.  He spent one year here as an analyst which is nothing more than a foot-in-the-door college position.  Lindsey came up with Rush Propst and was doing his own thing offensively long before he ever met Malzahn.  He was the HC at Lassiter HS when Lutzenkirchen played there and Hutson Mason broke every single Georgia HS passing record.  His offense is different from Malzahn's and is much more pass driven.

Gus has hired him previously. THAT'S the point.

  15. 25 minutes ago, AU-Allen said:

Well, I guess my question was why all the wait? If that was one of the first names out of the box. Was Gus denied and then later told ok take him but you guys mess this up and your both out?

    Fall-back plan.

You can ask people you love their opinion without them necessarily having a big factor in your decision.

Regardless it does not matter. All that matters for us as fans is he is an AU Tiger. The who did or didn't get him here is not worth arguing about so this is my last post on that detailed matter either way.

Unless the gf moves to Auburn with him (highly unlikely I would assume), they'll be 800 miles apart most days for the next 1-2 years.

Yeah, the gf's blessing def was a HUGE factor.
