  1. It all starts up front and our O-line is just plain bad. We can't throw deep to back the defense up because we can't block well enough, JS doesn't have time for the route to develop. We can't run the ball either because the O-line can't open up any holes for the backs. Until the O-line is fixed the offense will struggle and I don't see how it's going to get fixed. I had high hopes that JB could fix the mess Hand left, but it's looking like we just don't have the players. It also looks as if the coaches don't know the  identity of this team and if they want to be a passing team or running team or how to use the talent they have. I'm just very depressed over what I've seen from the offense so far this season. On the bright side what about that DEFENSE.

Aside from Gus's conservative nature, it's probably also a matter of statistics.  Even with a very good QB like JS playing behind the first OL....at least 50%  of his passing attempts turn into …...interceptions, sacks and or lost yards, or fumbles or incomplete passes      On the other hand,  the expected fumble rate for a running back is just above zero.

Just my opinion but I think our #2 QB has not won over the coaches....made some bad decisions in key moments the first two games this year and perhaps that's one reason they have kept him under wraps....to minimize the possibility of mistakes ....and give him a chance to be successful on some important but pretty straight forward situations.  Gotta master the fundamentals first before you solo. .

You do realize I was talking about playing the backups when the score is 63-9 don't you?

well we saw fumbles and at least one muffed punt...:)

Yes we did and I consider those fumbles great teaching and learning moments for the young players. If we treated all the players like the QB's I really don't know what plays we could run, to me the QB being allowed to throw is not a lot different than let a RB carry the ball and risking a fumble.

The primary benefits were  that the young guys who work so hard in practice actually got some playing time on the big field

That's right they do work hard so let them play the game with a regular playbook and see what they can do in a real game. We might have scored some more points but we might have also given up points on int's, who knows because we didn't get to see.

I’m thinking that CCL knows he’s not going to have JS next year and he will convince Gus the backups need meaningful game time reps which should include passing reps.  I believe CCL has had a positive influence on the play calling and offensive output.

The way Cord played was very encouraging.

Hope your right. But I'll have to see it to believe it. What did they get three passes between them against Al. St. ? You know, I can understand not wanting to run up the score on a team but, you have to coach your team and let the other coach worry about that.  I mean is 80 something to 9 any worse than 63-9?

As to the backup QB play, Gus and CCL will have the Arky and Southern Miss games after this weekend to get some more playing time for the QB’s

Yes they will, but we both know they will probably do the same thing in those games. I just don't see the value in not letting these QB's play like the game is on the line and call plays that way.

if Gus's system is so great for the RBs' pro careers, how come he's only had 3 guys go in the top 3 rounds in 8 years as OC or HC?

Could be talent, that's what the pro's want is talent. Seems that's what this whole debate is all about, the fact that we can't seem to land the 5 star RB's. And I'm with everyone else it really makes me mad that we can't, while uga and the turds haul them in with ease. I'm starting to think we need new blood at the RB coaching position.

We have adequate numbers at LB too.  You love to bring up the class where we only signed Tre Threat as a disaster.  Guess what? Same thing happened last year with the OL. We have at least followed up the Threat flop with extremely good and deep classes of LB. How about OT?

How do you quote and old topic like that? Asking for a friend. ha ha
