  1. Whats not to be hopeful about. Stidham is gone. Between Willis, Gatewood, and Nix Gus will have us a stud quarterback right? Right? I mean, Gus isn't desperately trying to secure a transfer QB because he has never, I repeat NEVER EVER NEVER, developed a single high school QB and knows that we cannot win with the QBs he has on hand.
  2. I really feel everyone is forgetting that. Which also leads to more questions. How? HOW in year six of Gus Malzahns tenure do we only have one viable QB? I would also like to bring back up the "What happened to Jeremy Johnson?" issue. Did Jeremy have "mental issues?" or was it poor coaching. Nick Marshal did not improve his second season. Stidham has regressed. Also, MALIK CANNOT HIT THE BROAD SIDE OF A BARN WITH A FOOTBALL. SANDBERG IS A POCKET PASSER! AGAIN O-LINE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PROTECT HIM. JOEY GATEWOOD" SEE WILLIS COMMENT!!!!
  3. I would like Stat to do a stat on how much our offense has struggled with this so called "Guru" over the last six years and compare it with Tubs first six years.
  4. Gus has done some awful coaching at Auburn. This game just wasn't one of them. O-line isn't aggressive. I don't know if we have any future NFL players on it. I do wonder if Gus would be willing to pull the trigger on Grimes after one season to get a better recruiter. I am not questioning Grimes coaching ability.
  5. @StatTiger has Gus ever gone this deep into his reserves?
  6. I would really like to see this article. Anyone have it?
  7. Great post Stat. Now, can Gus keep that up fr the remainder of the schedule?
  8. I think we can attribute a good bit of the margin of victory in the Missouri game to the fact that Missouri flat out sucks and is the worst team in the conference.
  9. I am not going to read a whole lot into the Georgia Southern game. The debate of whether or not Gus and Lindsey were going to open up the play book or go vanilla was answered. And bottom line is Stidham has a lot of rust. Part of going vanilla might have been to help ease Stidham back into playing as much as it was not showing our hand to Clemson. We will see.
  10. I really like Sean White. He works his butt off and makes good decisions. He is an accurate passer and a leader on the field. However, this just reinforces the fact the Stidham will be the starter. The new offense just plays to his strengths more. I am eager to see the new passing game this season against SEC competition.... and Missouri. There SEC right? Does anyone care about Missouri?
  11. That is the million dollar question isn't it? Let's be honest, Rhett didn't leave on his own. UCONN is a big step down. Just like Roof didn't voluntarily leave for Central Florida. I don't approve of the meddling. If Gus fails, let him fail his way. Don't force him to make staff changes he doesn't want. Was the QB Guru ban really lifted by CL? Is Jay Jacobs now barking orders at Gus to save both their jobs? Are these drastic changes coming about because Gus knows he needs to try something different or are they being forced on him? If parting ways with Rhett turns out to be a big positive will Gus actually see it that way or will he remain resentful for being forced to get rid of his protégé? Magic eight ball answer is............... Ask again later!
  12. I was excited about the Gus hire. Not my number one choice but I did give him all the credit for 2010. I figured if he could win a NC as just a coordinator what can he accomplish as a HC? My biggest problem is he has gotten away from the play calling that got him the Auburn OC job and the Auburn HC job. Everyone has a different reason as to why he has quit running tempo but Gus never actually gave a reason why, he has just stated the need to get back to running tempo. Then is told to turn the offense over to Rhett and we are magically running tempo again. Then there is the whole debate that Malzahns offense works best with a dual threat QB. Now as I posted above, Gus supposedly came to that realization on his own after the JSU game. However, that asks the question, before 2015 Gus didn't know he needed a DT QB? The first three high school QB's he recruited as Auburn HC were all pro style guys. So apparently he didn't know his own system? Yes he has corrected this with the last two recruiting classes, and yes has done a good job. I just don't know. I was 110% behind Gus until 2015. Gus looked confused, JF3 was a desperation recruit, a Band-Aid on a bullet wound. Gus responded with the Clemson offense....... and a reasonable explanation has still never been provided by our coach behind that offense. I have said it before ill say it again, I think Gus bit off more than he can chew. He probably would have had these same growing pains if he had stayed at Arky St. but that is why Sun Belt programs exist, to go and learn to coach before going to the top programs. Everyone on this board agrees that Gus is a HC in training. Question is do you approach this as a glass half empty or a glass half full. I am sorry, but I haven't enjoyed the last 2 1/2 years of football, I am half empty. Maybe Gus's growing pains are over. He and Rhett were FINALLY forced apart. Gorgeous Borges is back with the team. The D is respectable and the private QB coaching ban has been lifted (although I suspect influential boosters had more to do with that than CL). 2017 Sink or Swim. But after Stat Tigers analysis here, I am more optimistic for the season. I will open a can of worms with this, Stidham, like Cam, Marshal, Todd, and other Gus QB's that have been successful, were not recruited and developed by Gus out of high school but is a transfer who was coached by someone else at some point at the college level. In a year or two when Stidham departs, I will be very curious to see how Barrett, Malik, next high school QB develop.
  13. No link. I was told that by somebody that was in the film room that day.
  14. At this point I think Gus should hire @StatTiger as an analyst.
  15. I know the Sunday after the Jacksonville State game in the film room is when Gus and Rhett realized just how much trouble they were in with their current QB's. Gus runs a very vanilla passing game and an FCS school easily figured out the scheme locked down the receivers and dared Jeremy to run it knowing that he couldn't. Gus made some sort of comment in the film room about how He/the team needed a dual threat guy to keep the defense guessing pass or run and they couldn't do that with the QB's he had recruited.
  16. Lashlee is the son Gus never had. It is clear he needs to go but will Gus get rid of him? I have come to believe Gus is really good with X'x and O's but as far as individually developing players, specifically QB and receiver I think he is dropping the ball.
  17. If Gus can't get it done I am all for it. I wan't Jacobs gone period.
  18. Probably, but looking at other programs like Tennessee and Southern Cal, both schools booted their AD due to poor performance in men's sports. Mike Hamilton "Resigned" from UT as their AD. One Year Later Dooley was fired. Mike Garrett was fired from Southern Cal fir numerous reasons, ie mens basketball became an after thought. Three years later Kiffin gets booted. That being said I think USC fired Hayden and Sarkisian at the same time so maybe Auburn would dismiss both.
  19. Well I know Gogue just had a house built in Auburn. So maybe that is is second retirement home. He also has one in New Mexico.
  20. I'm not going to say your wrong but I have heard Jay Jacobs job is more on the line than Gus's job. I know Golf would disagree, but from what I understand Jacobs will not be allowed to hire another football coach seeing as how he has failed on Chizik and the fact that there is a discussion on Gus. Lets look at the facts, Jay Jacobs requirements to be Auburn's head coach is you had to previously have been a coordinator at Auburn. So Al Borges, Will Muschamp, Rhett Lashlee, Ellis Johnson, Kevin Still, Noel Mazzone? That would be Jacobs next list. And before anyone says that is stupid let me remind you Jacobs hired a 5-19 Gene Chizik and fans bought in to that so I am sure Jacobs could sale the list. Anyways WDE what have you heard? Are any boosters ready to boot JJ?
  21. Just repeating what I was told. But it would explain why the offense was so inexplicably slow last season and despite Gus repeatedly saying he has to fix the offensive pace but never fixed it last year.
  22. It would help Sean if the receivers could catch too.
  23. I was told by an Auburn U employee that in order to get Muschamp to Auburn last season Gus had to promise to slow down his offense.
