  1. Couple of thoughts on the 1988 team. It was my senior year at AU and this was my favorite team while a student. 1. The defense was obviously unreal. Maybe the best defense in school history. It was surprising when a team got a first down. 2. The LSU game is still the most painful loss in my AU lifetime. We would have won the NC. Notre Dame would have had to play us and they were a running team, no chance they win. FSU was better than ND by the time we played in the Sugar Bowl. ND turn down the chance to play us even with our 1 loss. 3. LSU only crossed the 50 one time during the game, the last drive. Like I said - still bitter. 4. Neon Deion interfered with Freddy Weygand on the last drive and it was not called. 5. Emmitt Smith was a sophomore at UF in 1988. He chose UF over AU primarily because it bothered his mom that Dye let Brent Fullwood play despite not going to class all quarter. Again AU beats LSU if Smith goes to AU.
  2. Only if the 1 is in the Citrus Bowl and not their on campus stadium. Treat the tickets like a neutral site game. Central Florida has become a place where AU pulls recruits and playing there would help. Maybe go to a HS where they have some big time recruits and upgrade their facilities "for practice" like the t-town cheaters do.
  3. I was at Auburn with Bo and you just shared a story I have never heard. I also heard one summer he decided to try tennis and by end of the summer he was playing AU's number 1 player.
  4. I think a big problem is the OL did not know what to do. This is preparation which is also coaching. There was bad play too, but a ton of just missed assignments.
  5. Funny as it sounds, watching that video made me more optimistic for this season (outside of Jackson at LT - UGH). The scheme and preparation can be fixed by better coaching. We can put players in better situations and give the offense a better chance to succeed. Of course not having a LT just fall down in crucial situations would be a big help too.
  6. Most people who have access to the inner workings of Auburn athletics, believe our main problem is politics. You need a leader who can manage the politics while still standing up and making hard decisions. Maybe the Harsin hire is a sign this is changing. Time will tell. Auburn does have some natural hills to climb our rivals do not. spuat, UGA, LSU, and UF all are the state university in a state loaded with talent (spuat not exactly, but they get to cheat). Auburn can recruit against these schools, but we start the race behind or rivals. We need a united Ath Dept and fanbase to compete consistently. I am optimistic about where we are, we will see soon if it is well founded. I plan to be patient for 3 years to give Harsin a chance to build his program.
  7. I believe (based on the current roster) Kilian Zierer needs to establish himself as a quality LT. From what I have seen we don't have anyone else who has the potential to do it. Keep in mind, I am only going by what I have read since we have not seen him on the field. If he can, then we can have better competition at RT (Jackson, Coffey, Hamm) and this means we have better competition at guard. If Zierer can't do this, we will end up with several players out of position and we know how that goes. Also I would like to see Council play center. Brahms was at best average and he was seldom that.
  8. Mounds turned his life around before he got to Auburn. Players followed him to Auburn because he was a leader in the community by the time he got to AU.
  9. I think McFadden comes the closest, but that was a real run of freaks. Even UNC had Kelvin Bryant at that time.
  10. One of my favorites. The one thing no one really talks about is the wave of super running backs in that era. Jackson, Walker, Sims, Campbell. Dickerson, Rogers, Allen, and Dupree. All were really big and really fast. Freaks of nature.
  11. He went to OU, but the true story is OU coach Lucious Selmon moved to Philadelphia MS and lived there for last couple of months to ensure Marcus signed with OU.
