I think “damning” is too far (some of the coaches liked him) but it ain’t good or even passable either. Seems like he doesn’t understand you have to recruit the HS head coach and the recruit and that the HC showing up in person is a huge deal even if for only 30 minutes. He is way out of his league and it was correctable but that chance is long gone now. I don’t think he would correct corse anyway. Seems stubborn as hell.

I think it is highly dependent. With TJ (allegedly) being out do we “dumb down” the offense, go mostly RPO, and feed Tank? Do we put in the younger guys with a dumbed down offense? King, Brown mostly? If so I think our offense can find success. If not it’s going to be a long day. Do we let Hall and Leota pin their ears back and just go get it? If so I think that will cover holes in the D enough. If we don’t make changes and play within the personnel we have? 17-20 and I don’t know who wins it. If we adjust and play within ourselves and let our ballers just ball? 31-17 the good guys.

This is the rough spot we are in. Holden is definitely the future. I’d almost rather tank the season, get Harsin fired, get a Freeze, Kiffin, Aranada, Wittingham in here and give them a healthy Robby and Holden to work with. Hopefully they could hit the portal hard for some O-line and start getting points on the board.

That would be best for both parties. Unfortunately for us I think he is stubborn and with the February debacle he is going to make Auburn pay up. He just seems like the kind of guy to try and “burn it down”.

I agree with this unless he loses to Mizzou at home. I think that would just be too embarrassing to let slide. A blowout loss to Mizzou? I bet he would find out during his post game presser from the sideline reporter.

Could’ve done fine with Bo in 2019 if Gus could call any sort of an offense. That defense was so stacked it wasn’t even fair. A lot of those guys on D made it to the league.

I would take Freeze over Kiffin. Kiffin’s “analytics” cost them a few times last year including against us. Though it would be entertaining between him and Saban. I’d also add Aranda to your short list. McGee and Prime kind of fit the same mold for me. Recruiting would take a massive bump but who knows what they do with it. I think McGee would be the better fit at AU but Deion would be a blast.

I think Mike G. of the War Rapport said it best. Put your ballers in and let them ball. Scrap the “well he is more prepared” mentality and put the guys out there who are just physically more talented. Take your RPO plays, scrap everything else, let it ride. Robby, Tank, Camden, King, Johnson and let it rip. Same on defense. If a guy has been here 2-3 years and isn’t getting it done? Give a young guy a shot. Dumb it down and let them physically whoop someone. You don’t have the O-line to be cute. Right now we are “outsmarting” ourselves.

The whole self defeatist attitude on getting a good coach is a bad take especially after all of the moves last year. I did a whole breakdown on a different thread. If we open the checkbook and let the guy operate we have plenty of options. Aranda, Wittingham, Freeze, Kiffin, Meyer, Stoops 1, Stoops 2. The list goes on but they are out there. Cristobal and Stoops were way closer to being here than people want to believe. I have settled on wanting Freeze personally but the “who are we going to get” is just a lazy take. We have a top 10 earning program. Time to pony up for a top 10 coach and let him work.

I think he was interested last year. We accepted Bruce Pearl we can accept Freeze. I called him our “best” option but that isn’t fair to him. He is a great option period and if we don’t snatch him up someone will.

I was against this when Harsin was hired. I’m at the point where the guy (Freeze) has served his time. He has done amazing things at Liberty with the talent they have. He has done it in the SEC. I think Freeze is our best option and I wouldn’t wait. Start talking to him now. Plan on firing Harsin on the bye week. Announce Freeze ASAP. Get it out there for recruiting purposes. Admittedly I don’t know the rules about talking with a coach mid season. After the Whisky and anger wearing off from Penn State I think Freeze is our best option.

I think our biggest problem is going to be finding the right coach. Not because we can’t I just don’t trust us to. You have the “untouchables” that if you hold your nose and pull the trigger and take the horrible media backlash your program will be fine. Meyer, Gruden, Briles. You have the guys that if you opened the bank for they may leave retirement. Stoops, Peterson. you have poachable HCs from other teams. Aranada, Kiffin, Freeze, Wittingham. you have NFL guys. Rhule, Moore. I’m sure there are others. you have the “pure recruiter” hire like Deion, McGee. The options exist when Harsin is fired. Will we choose a guy, target him, open the checkbook, let him build a staff, let him rip. Hopefully the Harsin debacle showed the need to spend money on the right coach and NIL

I don’t think so and that was my point. At this point it’s about recruiting. We need an average QB and average O-line and an average staff. I’ll take anyone who can get that in. Texas and Oklahoma are coming soon and we need a stable base or we are screwed. I’d take consistent Mark Richt seasons at this point just to get us going. Hence why I have finally given in to the “just bring in Neon Deion” crowd. At this point I’d ALMOST cave to Art Briles (I wouldn’t because you have to be a terrible person). Urban Myer isn’t off my list though….The long and short of it is Harsin is tainted goods and needs to go. Recruiting will suffer unless the PTB make a move. How it all pans out I have no clue.

Assuming McG is Dell McGee I’m so beat at this point I’ll try anything. Would rather a guy with experience as an HC, but screw it. Give me Grimes, McGee, who ever.

Same results I think. Bo was never great. May have gotten another 1-1/12 TDs. He was our biggest loss. Hudson hasn’t shown up at UCF. Admittedly I don’t know about any others. Gus left the Cupboard bare. I think our biggest issue is the O-line and that is still a Gus product. Harsin didn’t fix it. Not making excuses for him. Just don’t think the issue (currently) is a byproduct of “talent” leaving. I think it comes down to poor coaching, poor portal recruiting, and a lack of effort. We looked a step slower on all fronts. Which pains me to say about our D.

Eh I’m sorry man. Whether it was the PTB or someone else you brought the man’s family into it. To be clear. He needs to go. However, I can’t sympathize with politics. Especially if the “rumors” aren’t true and you attack a man’s family. If it was true it’s fair game but they dug into his phone records and email and found nothing. As a HUGE family man I sympathize with him. If someone tried to get me fired over false allegations over an affair or similar id be on the warpath.

To be fair did Urban know the SEC before he got here? Did Saban before he got to LSU? A good coach is a good coach. I think, personally, Auburn is just a different animal behind the scenes. Gus needed to go. 2015 showed that. Unfortunately for him the game changed and he couldn’t adapt. I think Harsin all things being said is a fine coach. Just not a fit for AU and he will find his feet in the P5. Probably at a UCLA or something winning 8-10 games a year. You have to be a good coach and politician to make it work at AU or an outstanding recruiter and politician. Side note. Harsin being insanely jacked got me back in the gym. Dude looks like he could step on the field today. Motivated me as an “old” guy. Got me back to lifting and eating right. So at least I can thank him for that!

So serious question. When does his buyout reduce and what do we think it takes to get him fired this year? Also are we done paying Chiz and how far are we off from paying off Gus?

I’m not saying the guy was a saint or he didn’t do anything to push things along. However, you bring a man’s family into it and you have a disdain for him before he ever steps off the plane? At some point we have to look in the mirror and go “how can we fix ourselves.” He could’ve played ball better but the only top tier coach I can think of that hasn’t gotten on the bad side of the proverbial “PTB” at their respective school is Dabo. I 100% agree with the Boise lackeys but did we really think Bobo was his choice and a good one? Personal belief is that it was a lack of both sides willing to play ball and that’s probably what made us lose out on better coaches. I think we can right the ship so to speak but it’s going to take a huge group effort from the PTB to get a guy they like, who is good, and let him run the program. Harsin, I think we both agree, is done for.

I was one of those. Brand new poster so no record of it. I will say that we have been our own worst enemy on this one. Harsin could have been the guy. We will never know. The February debacle cut into any sort of recruiting big time. Imagine you’re an 18 year old kid. You look at talent like Tank, Hall, and Papoe. You go “hey man I could make a difference at X spot and Auburn could really make a run.” Then all of a sudden the whole program is in turmoil. I’d rather go to a Baylor or Ole Miss where I know I won’t win a Natty but I know I can look good for the NFL. Same with transfers. At this point I think Harsin is tainted goods and we need to stabilize. I think the best way to do that is with a big name. I’d can Harsin after his buyout drops and open the checkbook for Coach Prime. Our only option is to open the checkbook for a coach, staff, and NIL. If we can get the talent the rest can be sorted out later.

First time post. I’m normally an X/O not a Jimmy/Joe guy but you need at least 4 stars across the board to compete. What I saw today was atrocious with all of the talent that was in the portal. I like Harsin personally and think he got railroaded in February. It was a gross hit job. All of that being said unless we want to have a Tennesse level slide we need to make a change ASAP and as much as I hate to say it…give me Neon Deion. He will bring in the talent coaching wise and on the field. That is our best shot to rebuild quick through the portal. I don’t know if he would bring us a Natty but the talent alone would get us to consistent 10 win seasons.
