CUSA and Mountain West forming new conference

Apparently what's left of the 2 conferences are joining to make one "super conference".

The institutions from Conference USA and the Mountain West are dissolving both leagues to create their own conference, college football industry sources told CBSSports.com.

The new conference will start in the 2013-14 academic year. Conference USA and the Mountain West would continue as is for the 2012-13 season.

The reason that the institutions are dissolving and forming their own league is for legal reasons, sources said.

The new league – which is yet to be named – is expected to consist of  Southern Miss, Marshall, East Carolina, UAB, Tulsa, Rice, UTEP and Tulane from C-USA and Wyoming, Air Force, Colorado State, UNLV, New Mexico, Fresno State, Nevada and Hawaii from the MWC. Hawaii would be a football-only member, making a 15-team all-sports conference and a 16-team football conference.

Temple also is a possibility as the school was contacted by Conference USA, sources told CBSSports.com, when the Big East last week opted to invited Memphis instead of Temple.

As it stands from the article I read on ESPN there will be 17 teams. I still see a couple that may migrate away. Air Force and East Carolina are both supposed to be going to the Big East. Eventually I think they land at 14 teams and end up like the SEC and ACC and possibly the Big East. 14 seems like the new status quo.

That makes 10 conferences. Now force ND to join the Big-10 If they want a shot at a championship. every conference have a championship game, Take the conferences champs and have a true playoff. No more favoritism polls, no more ESPN controlling NCAA Football. No more idiots voting really stupid, I will not mention any names , No more influence outside of the teams on the field and the refs calling the games. No more Mythical champions. All the rest of the qualifying teams can go to the bowl games as the BCS has already destroyed everything they stood for anyway. college football will be perfect as it could be. Everyone will be happy, and the part that the people in control doesn't see there will be more money to be had.

Like this idea, but of course it makes too much sense for the NCAA to do it.

Except the theory suggests that a Conference Champ from the WAC / Big East / etc who is likely to be 7-5 is more deserving than the #2 ranked team in the nation, who turns out to be the best team in the nation.

The turds had a chance in the regular season, and lost at home.  They did not deserve another chance.  I don't care if they did win the rematch.  Another team should have had that chance.  Play off's would eliminate this from happening again.

More deserving you say, how is that?  If they are the best team in the nation they should be their conference champ  which would put them in the playoffs.

If you are referring to Alabama this last year, then why were they not in the SEC Championship game?  Why should the rest of the nation be denied an opportunity for one of their champs to play for the BCS championship just because the SEC doesn't know how to determine their best team/champion?
