Victoryland and Windcreek Casino's

Ok this post does pertain to AU Football so I hope you Mods understand.

I heard on the news earlier that the state has seized and shutdown, once again, Victoryland. They also said that they are going after Windcreek Casino as well.

I am not a supporter of gambling by any means. I am actually against it, but if someone wants to throw away their money, so be it. To me its like the seatbelt law. If someone chooses to wear it or not, its their life and their decision.

We all know they are both putting money into AU. Anyway, does anyone else feel like there is something going on to try and take away support(money, funding) for AU athletics? McGregor in particular?

I know it sounds irrational, but I wouldn't put it past Saban or bama boosters to try and go after our Boosters "by any means necessary". And no I'm not crazy, I take my medicine everyday. :dead:

What say you?

I think it has very very very very little to do with AU and more of a witch hunt from a butt-hurt AL (state - not school) political system. It is cool if you dont want to gamble but quit wasting my tax dollars on this crap. Maybe they get money from the gas sales driving to GA.

I think gambling is dumb, but if you invest your money in high risk ventures or stock, you may lose it. Same with gambling. People who work for their money have to choose to use it in the best way possible, if they choose to throw it away, then that is their business.

But I don't think it has anything to do with the bammernecks.

McGregor isn't so big of an AU booster to be singled out. There are any number of folks that give in his category. As noted above, the alleged puritans at the top levels of state government are on a hate crusade against gambling. It has nothing to do with Auburn.

I think it's a crock! Like Weegle stated, Wall Street is a gamble. I personally won a few grand at Victoryland a few years ago but I don't go to Casinos all that often. When I do, it's just a fun crap shoot of chance. I think it's a stupid move.

As long as you don't get a hand-out from the government, gamble 'til your heart is content. If you're on the dole, you shouldn't be allowed inside.

A fool and his money are soon parted.

Awwwbrens goin down Paaawwwl! Pawl? Pawwwwwllllll? Pawwwwwwwwwwwwwwlllllllllllllll? Run fer da hills bubba Awwwbrens got Pawl an dey a comin fer us next.

I feel the state of Alabama is leaving a lot on the table in regards to a lottery/gambling. While in state people go to surrounding states to gamble, our teachers are poorly payed and poorly motivated because of funding(not all I'm sure). Roads and bridges are also in poor shape due to the same reason. One would think politicians would work out a way to fix the issues without gambling if they felt so strongly about it. But here we are in a perpetual state of disrepair due to inept leadership. In the end, the Alabama population is unable to make decisions on leadership to steer us out of our mess.

In regards to the welfare winners. Such a case actually did happen. It did not end well for the woman. http://articles.lati...stamps-20121002 . It may actually be worth it for them to win and get off the tax payer payroll.

In the end, I'm am neither for nor against gambling because I want or ever would do it. I am for it because the US was at one time the smartest civilization in the world. Whereas now it is 4th. http://ca.finance.ya...-the-world.html . Of that, Alabama is the 6th worst educated state. http://247wallst.com/2012/10/15/164232/4/

I want the US and its population to let people make decisions for themselves. Be as transparent as possible and let it be the land of the free. If this post or thread gets zapped for it's political nature then I apologize.

JMO:

I don't think any state crackdown on Victoryland or others has anything to do with REC folks gunning for Auburn University. And they'd be stupid (well, that's already a given <_< ) to start any gambling witch hunts given Paul Bryant Jr's connection to Greentrack in Eutaw.

I think, like alcohol sales on Sunday or gay marriage, it's more about one set of people wanting to force their particular religious beliefs on the general public...which I also think is a violation of the 1st Amendment. But nevertheless, it is state law and until ruled unconstitutional, the state has the right to enforce its laws.

As for gambling: It's not my cup of tea--though I've been known to buy a lottery ticket just for fun if vacationing in Florida or Louisiana. Like many vices, it also carries with it a risk of addiction. However, I have friends who do enjoy casinos. My friends aren't addicted and don't bet their life savings on a pipe dream of getting rich. They are smart enough to know the odds are stacked against them. But they enjoy the thrill (whereas to me, it's just boring). To them, it's just a fun evening of entertainment: Rather than get their thrills on an expensive evening of say dinner & a movie, or triple digit concert tickets, they enjoy spending their entertainment dollars at the casino. If they'd prefer to blow $100-200 at the casino instead of say $150+ Madonna tickets or a Gameday trip to their favorite campus, that's their decision.

Like any potentially addictive activity, gambing is a problem when it takes over one's life. But two of most addictive things around are alcohol and tobacco, and they're both perfectly legal. In the case of welfare: Yes, I do have a problem with my tax dollars being spent on gambling, alcohol, tobacco, or other unnecessary luxuries. (But I have no problem with my tax dollars going to help someone on hard times with necessities like food, shelter, health care, etc.)

This should be one of the hottest topics on this board after the news today. AG Luther Strange has asked Tom Young to recuse himself....

Attorney General Strange filed the motion last week citing that, "the State of Alabama and the public have a reasonable basis to question Judge [Tom] Young's ability to be fair and impartial in this matter."

Strange cites Judge Young's reluctance penned on the search warrant and his previous denial of a search warrant until the State Supreme Court stepped in as evidence of a bias against the state's case against the casino.

"The problem is not only that Judge Young has already expressly stated that he does not believe the state's evidence rises to the level of probable cause, and that he expressed a strong reluctance to so much as sign the search warrant in this matter even after the Supreme Court of Alabama ordered him to do so. Judge Young has also taken actions and made comments in this and other proceedings that would make reasonable members of the public or a party or counsel question the impartiality of Judge Young."

We may not be able to do anything about our national government, but we definately have enough say to stand up in this state. I am not sure who is for or against gambling, but if church is the only reason then you should go talk to some of the good people who work there and the public services that benefitted in that area. This is a complete outrage that the people we elected are still on this witch hunt.

I advise calling Strange and telling him what a peice he is - (probably better just to let him know he is losing your vote) and also to call Tom Young and tell him to hang tough and he has your support. Not that this will stop the blind witch hunt but we can be heard and give them more to consider - like re-election.
