homersapien 11,388
Russian operatives used Facebook ads to exploit America’s racial and religious divisions The batch of more than 3,000 Russian-bought ads that Facebook is preparing to turn over to Congress shows a deep understanding of social divides in American society, with some ads promoting African American rights groups, including Black Lives Matter, and others suggesting that these same groups pose a rising political threat, say people familiar with the covert influence campaign. The Russian campaign — taking advantage of Facebook’s ability to send contrary messages to different groups of users based on their political and demographic characteristics — also sought to sow discord among religious groups. Other ads highlighted support for Democrat Hillary Clinton among Muslim women. These targeted messages, along with others that have surfaced in recent days, highlight the sophistication of an influence campaign slickly crafted to mimic and infiltrate U.S. political discourse while also seeking to heighten tensions between groups already wary of one another..... .....The House and Senate intelligence committees plan to begin reviewing the Facebook ads in coming weeks as they attempt to untangle the operation and other matters related to Russia’s bid to help elect Donald Trump president in 2016. “Their aim was to sow chaos,” said Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-Va.), vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee. “In many cases, it was more about voter suppression rather than increasing turnout.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/technology/russian-operatives-used-facebook-ads-to-exploit-divisions-over-black-political-activism-and-muslims/2017/09/25/4a011242-a21b-11e7-ade1-76d061d56efa_story.html?utm_term=.4167c229f79b

DKW 86 7,426
The U.S. is no stranger to interfering in the elections of other countries Quote The U.S. has a long history of attempting to influence presidential elections in other countries – it’s done so as many as 81 times between 1946 and 2000, according to a database amassed by political scientist Dov Levin of Carnegie Mellon University. That number doesn’t include military coups and regime change efforts following the election of candidates the U.S. didn’t like, notably those in Iran, Guatemala and Chile. Nor does it include general assistance with the electoral process, such as election monitoring. In 59% of these cases, the side that received assistance came to power, although Levin estimates the average effect of “partisan electoral interventions” to be only about a 3% increase in vote share. The U.S. hasn’t been the only one trying to interfere in other countries’ elections, according to Levin’s data. Russia attempted to sway 36 foreign elections from the end of World War II to the turn of the century – meaning that, in total, at least one of the two great powers of the 20th century intervened in about 1 of every 9 competitive, national-level executive elections in that time period. DKW 86 7,426
Tex, I have never said anything really positive about Trump on this forum. He has been a jerk for 3 decades. it is who he is. He may get us in a bad war with N Korea before it is over. I have no respect for the guy. The collusion/hacking stuff is falling apart. But then again, the Money Laundering could be very very legit and, lets all face the facts, right up Trump's alley.

DKW 86 7,426
Shannon Sharpe agrees with me. @ 1:35 Everyone that has written a book about Trump since the 1980s says the same thing. "He is exactly today as he was then." Trump has been an ass for 3 Decades. This is nothing new. Sharpe goes on to get very detailed and love his comments. "Why was this (telling the owners to fire protesters) the tipping point?" Sharpes Answer: It was an attack on the NFL. It really had nothing to do with Unity, nor Solidarity, nor Injustice, nor Racism. It was about protecting the NFL Brand.
