'run like a plantation.'

"So Hillary Clinton thinks the House of Representatives is being 'run like a plantation.' And, she added, 'you know what I'm talking about.' First of all: Think about what a weird coincidence it is that Hillary would have made these remarks in a black church in Harlem on Martin Luther King Day. What are the odds? Did she even know it was a holiday? Bravely spoken, Senator. I haven't been this surprised since finding out Hollywood likes a movie about gay cowboys. As Hillary explained, the House 'has been run in a way so that nobody with a contrary view has had a chance to present legislation, to make an argument, to be heard.' Yes, that's what was really missing on plantations during the slavery era: the opportunity to present a contrary view. Gosh, if only the slaves had been allowed to call for cloture votes. What a difference that would have made! Madam Hillary also said the Bush administration 'will go down in history as one of the worst that has ever governed our country.' While Hillary is certainly qualified to comment on what the all-time worst presidential administrations were, having had firsthand experience in one of them, I think she might want to avoid the phrase 'go down in history'." — Ann Coulter

Wouldn't it be great if we could, in the words of MLK: "Judge a man by the content of his character."?

A jerk is a jerk, no matter the color of his or HER skin.

A good man is a good man, reguardless of the color of his skin.

Maybe we should judge each other by height or weight. It makes just as much "sense".

Ty Webb - "By height."

It was a stupid thing for anyone to say, but she was hardly original:

It's odd Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's "plantation comment" caused everybody to get into such a lather. If you read the entire statement she made, it's clear she was talking about the problem of one-party rule, nothing whatsoever to do with race. (But because she had a largely black audience, she was misconstrued.)

She said, "When you look at the way the House of Representatives has been run, it has been run like a plantation, and you know what I'm talking about. It has been run in a way so that nobody with a contrary view has a chance to present legislation, to make an argument, to be heard."

The New York Democrat said this same thing about a year ago on CNN and nobody flinched. And the Republicans' Newt Gingrich said something similar when the Democrats controlled Congress. At the time he complained: "Since they [the Democrats] think it is their job to run the plantation, it shocks them that I'm actually willing to lead the slave rebellion."

Newt caught hell for what he said. Ask Trent Lott what raising a birthday toast to Strom Thurmond will get you!

Race baiting is a tactic perfected by the democrat party. Hillary will go untouched because of the liberal double standard. Imagine what would have happened had Bush, Cheney, or Rove made the plantation remark. Stock in Pampers diapers would have soared through the roof from all the libbies messing their drawers.

And you were outraged when Newt said it weren't you? But now it's just "a stupid thing for anyone to say".

Where and to whom Newt was speaking matters greatly in this discussion. Was he pandering to a largly black crowd, in a church, on MLK Jr's celebrated day?

If no , then it hardly can be considered the same, and Hillary should not be given a pass. Not by the blacks she insults with such a inane comparison, not by the media who loves and adores her.

Outraged when Newt said it? Hardly. I just think it is a politically stupid mindfield to wander into. I never objected to Newt being politically stupid. Hillary has a political tin ear. If she runs for President, she will wander into a few more before realizing it.

Trent Lott was cut loose by this administration. Read his book.

You whine like a little girl for no reason. "Hillary will go untouched!" "Hillary will go untouched!"

What news do you follow? Oh, yeah...nevermind.

Here's how "untouched" she's gone so far:

Here's how "untouched" she's gone so far:

Fact of the matter, she HAS gone untouched. Everyone from Sen. Obama to Keith Olbermann has come to her defense. She has received no rebuke from her party. She's not been forced onto BET to make any kind of retraction, contrition, apology. If anything, she's benefitted from her remarks, where a conservative would have been lynched by the media for making the same comment in a similar situation.

Might help if you removed your head from the ground, or what ever dark cavity you've shoved it into.

Pull your head out of your brain, Tex. Trent Lott stepped down ahead of the democrat lynch mob that was bashing in his door. It wasn't that long ago, so give us all a little credit for having a memory.

Raptor nailed it. The liberals have circled their wagons around Hillary in order to keep their best shot at the 2008 White House race safe.

Did Newt go on BET to apologize? Was he rebuked by his party for that comment? He wasn't "lynched" by the media (BTW, you just did the same thing.)

She hasn't benefitted from her remarks. That's almost as stupid as the remark itself. In fact, until I found the article I quoted, I had only seen the clip, over and over, cut-off at "And you know what I'm talking about."

So Olbermann thought it was no big deal, and Chris Mathews thought it was huge.

Trent Lott caught hell b/c Bushco wanted their boy Frist as Senate Leader. Lott was too independent for them. The media actually ignored it for days after it was said. Read his book.

The way she treated the White House staff and workers (as witnessed by Dick Morris) when she was in office :big: , one could make a strong argument that the peoples house was more of a plantation than not.

Actually pretty good friends with one of the Marne pilots of Marine One when "slick" was in office. He swears to me she made him blush on more than one occasion. And their dog bit him as well. (not Chelsea mind you...the real dog)
