Baseball Nuggets from The Auburn Sports Blog

Recommended Posts

***Auburn (35-17, 17-10 SEC) has moved up to No. 16 in both the Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball polls. AU is No. 18 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ poll. Boyd’s World currently has AU with the nation’s No. 16 RPI.

***Auburn set a school record Sunday with its 104th homerun. The SEC and national record is 188 set by LSU in 1997. AU set a school record with 103 homeruns in 2009 but that came with 484 strikeouts. AU hitters have struck out just 368 times this season, 116 times less than last season.

***AU continues to lead the SEC in hitting (.354), runs (484) and homeruns (104). AU has moved up to No. 6 in team ERA (5.01) and is 11th in fielding percentage (.960).

***Trent Mummey is hitting .366 with 13 homeruns and 38 RBI in just 24 games this season. That’s less than half the number of games most of AU’s regulars have played this season. What if Mummey had played in all 52 games? His numbers might look something like this: .366 with 26 homeruns and 76 RBI. The 26 HR’s would shatter the AU record of 22 set by Todd Faulkner in 2000. Faulkner also drove in a record 103 runs that season.

***Hunter Morris leads the SEC in homeruns (19) and total bases (169). He’s third in RBI with 65, just behind teammate, Brian Fletcher, and MSU’s Connor Powers, who are tied for first with 66. Fletcher and Arkansas’ Brett Eibner are chasing Morris with 18 homeruns.
