all4AU 379
South Carolina Coach Dawn Staley has created a juggernaut. We lost to the #5 team in the country tonight. We need to beat an upstart Ole Miss on Sunday. They have been a perennial cellar in the SEC, but they are 12-3 this year, with Bama beating them tonight. au302 2,669
If theirs one program that deserves some credit its womens basketball. Besides softball, I have been pleased with coach Flo's job the last two seasons. We got killed tonight but her players play tough. Hopefully we can make another appearance in the tourney this year. Really? You are comparing the results we have seen in women's basketball to women's softball? Women's softball has recruited the best players in the country and they have played for championships the past 2 years. Women's basketball's recruiting is putrid, horrible and not on a level that will allow us to compete with top tier SEC teams. That is a fact. Unfortunately, as long as we stubbornly adhere to this style of play and are satisfied with not being a force on the recruiting trail, we will continue to be a have not. It is sad and unfortunate, but as long as we do what we have been doing, we will get what we have been getting.
autigeremt 6,657
We need to step up our game but from what I've seen there are only so many great basketball recruits in women's basketball and the haves get most of them. We need to get more aggressive in that area.

On top of which Coach Staley went out and got Melanie Balcomb on her staff (Vandy, for whatever reason let her go)...thus all of the 3 pointers which they did at Vandy and she ran a motion offense that gave most of the SEC fits....... AU9377 4,988
The real comparison, which I feel is an appropriate one, is not with Dawn at South Carolina, but with Vic Schaefer at Ms State. Ms State's program was in a worse position than was ours 5 years ago. Their roster was less talented and our facilities and geographic proximity to recruits provided a clear advantage in AU's favor. Five years later, they are the #4 ranked team in the country and are an elite team in the SEC. At best, we are maintaining our place and continuing to be competitive.
