  1. CTT played in weaker SEC. He also benefited with a down UGA and UAT. He was an average coach at best who had two great teams in an other wise average tenure. It’s why there was a literal coup to undermine him. He lost so many games where we should have won. Him only winning the SEC title once should tell you how average of a coach he was and his subsequent coaching jobs tell you how mediocre of a coach he was. No way do I think CTT was as good of a coach as Gus. One memorable season doesn’t erase the other mediocre years and lost chances of winning the SEC. Gus at least would have us in the national conversation in November most years…
  2. After being an Auburn fan for 30+ years, anyone but a Grimes like hire would be a shocker to me. And for Dabo: he was in the perfect situation where literally the only program he had to compete against was FSU. If he was in the SEC he would’ve been fired by year 4. I still think he’s an overrated coach who has benefited from playing in a weak conference. I know he has beaten UAT but it’s easier to get up for 2-3 games a year than about 6-7 games a year like that of an SEC schedule. But getting back to Auburn, yea, I don’t really have any expectations for the coaching hire, kind of numb to it now haha…
  3. I agree. To me, he’s an option if my first 5-6 candidates say no. I agree with you. He’s not going anywhere. Make this search look like we’re actually trying to progress and get better instead of the usual lazy Auburn hire…
  4. I’m one of the people who thought it was time for Gus to go because we weren’t progressing and the program had become stale under his watch. However, I find it odd for people to minimize his accomplishments. Being objective, he was the most successful coach we’ve had since Dye. So, just because I’m glad he’s gone doesn’t mean I don’t realize that he has been the best coach in about 30 years…
  5. Exactly. A Grimes hire literally tells me, “ehh, we don’t think we can get anybody of significance so let’s just hire someone we know and we’re comfortable with”. It’s just a lazy hire to me. But again, it’s what Auburn does so I honestly expect nothing different this time…
  6. Like I said, there’s a pattern with Grimes’ offenses. Let’s just agree too disagree. You and others are in no way ever going to convince me that Grimes is this special coach and I’m not going to change your mind or others. Don’t worry, Auburn will hire him and then we’ll see what happens…
  7. Yep, imagine the media coverage alone we would garner with him as our coach. People look at resumes, I look at potential and understand the changing landscape of college football and it’s why I want Deion…
  8. Again, would anyone really care or even know him if he didn’t coach at Auburn 10 years ago? Also, the caliber of athletes on defense in the SEC and most other teams in other conferences is night and day. I get it, people love him. I’ll preface it again, IN MY OPINION, he seems like the typical Auburn hire that will get us to 7-9 wins a year , nothing more and nothing less. Maybe as an alum and fan, I’m tired of the status quo. Also, I see how college football is changing and Auburn needs someone to bring excitement and hope and unite the fan base again, kind of how like Pearl did and there’s only one coach to me that can…
  9. It’s his pattern. When he has a team that has more talent, they look great. When he doesn’t, they look below average. In my opinion, and I’ll say this again, it’s my opinion, there’s nothing special that he brings to the table. Do you honestly believe Jeff Grimes, a guy who has never been a head coach anywhere in 30+ plus years of coaching, will be able to compete and recruit against UAT and UGA? To me, that’s more far fetched than people questioning Deion Sanders. But again, it’s my opinion. I understand many people on here love Grimes and he will more than likely get the job because he’s a comfortable hire…
  10. I am looking forward to see how JSU performs against Campbell today. Campbell has talent comparable to JSU. Should be a good game. JSU should win but Campbell is no slouch…
  11. Against BYU and Oklahoma State, two defenses that are atrocious. Again, stats can be deceiving. When you look at how his offenses play against an actual defense, they are below average, just like how Gus’ offenses would perform. Again, there’s nothing special that he does. Central Michigan scored over 40 points yet Baylor barely got over 20 points because of a worthless score at the end…
  12. Reminder that he’s playing against Kansas and Big 12 opponents in general. They struggled to score points against Oklahoma State and BYU. Offense looks good against weaker opponents but below average against actual teams. That sounds very familiar…
  13. I still believe we beat Arkansas and A&M just because it’s at home and both of those teams have big flaws. If those games were on the road, I would say we lose. I still have us going 6-6. It’s the Auburn thing, where we look down and out but somehow we will look competitive in every game outside of UAT and might even somehow save Harsin’s job. Now that would be the most Auburn thing, hahaha
  14. No I’ve already said I would still watch Auburn football as long as the coach wasn’t Freeze. That’s where I draw the line. And the reason for my support of Deion is because there literally is no other coach out there that’s a sure thing, even Kiffin. He makes so many boneheaded mistakes in games that he’s due 2-3 losses a year. All of the candidates listed have major flaws. It’s why I’m going with someone who can bring positive attention to Auburn and able to go head to head with the top programs in the nation in recruiting. Deion is already recruiting at an FBS level in the SWAC. Imagine what he could do at Auburn? Also, look what he has done there and the improvements he has made since being there, record wise. They are on pace to win their second consecutive conference championship. JSU didn’t have a winning season in8 years before Deion, so he must know something about football. Again, I just think Auburn needs to get out of the same ole same ole coaching hire we have always done and catch up with the times and go with the coach who would know how to bring in the top recruits…
  15. They have pretty much locked the state down for the past few years, this year being the exception. What I’m saying is in order to recruit against them we need someone that has the clout to overcome Auburn’s perception. Grimes won’t be able to do that and it will take him 2-3 years before recruits start believing he can win. Deion brings immediate attention to said recruits and would have an immediate impact. Grimes is an unknown just like any other coordinator out there. Again, if Grimes was just this unbelievable can’t miss coach, why has he never been a head coach with over 25+ years of coaching? I’m still waiting on people to answer this question and you all who want Grimes have never given me answer…
  16. Are you seriously thinking Dell is Smart’s right hand man? Geez, don’t know what to think about that. And go look at UGA people say about Dell, not very flattering whatsoever. Also, there is a reason he’s never been more than just a position coach throughout all of these years. Do your research before making these asinine comments. Deion is wayyy more accomplished than Dell and would blow Dell out of the water if he was at a power 5 program…
  17. Depends on many factors. If Auburn wants to make a statement, then yea, he has a chance. However, as I’ve said in many threads, Deion would be the most drastic hire ever in Auburn history. It wouldn’t be a “comfortable “ hire. Grimes would be though and that’s kind of the hire I expect us to do. The only thing that gives me hope is that there is a large faction of people who have influence pushing for Deion. We’ll see…
  18. I just thought I would share this video. You can see the culture he has built there, it’s special…
  19. So apparently now Nunez from New Mexico is gaining traction and it’s between him, Hartwell and McGlynn…
  20. No there was reason to believe Smart was capable. It’s called having football IQ. He was literally Saban’s right hand man. He was also his ace recruiter. If you didn’t see that Kirby was going to be a great coach than I don’t know what to tell you. Kind of like it was obvious that Lincoln Riley was going to be a successful coach as well…
  21. So you want Dell who has never been more than a position coach but Deion is laughable? Again, no logic. Also, Deion is already recruiting at a high level at JSU. You and others really believe he will have a difficult time recruiting here? Again, that’s not using logic whatsoever…
  22. Also, look how bad UAT’s defense has been since he left. Smart was the catalyst for their dynasty by having a dominant defense in the beginning of their title runs. He also locked down UGA and now UAT isn’t any where near as dominant in recruiting because Smart is now the coach there. I really seriously doubt Grimes will be able to lock down Alabama when he is hired and have top 3 classes every year and compete for championships every year, but that’s jut me…
  23. If you believe that Jeff Grimes is any where near the coach Kirby is then I can’t help you and I really question your football IQ…
  24. I love how you gloss over his analysts as well. It’s an impressive staff no matter how you cut it. Yes, some guys get fired and take lesser jobs. Will Muschamp was an analyst for Georgia before this year. It happens all of the time. The point was that he has guys on his staff that have been in the NFL and college coaching experience. I don’t think you understand how difficult it is to attract any coaches top coaches to go to the SWAC, let alone JSU. For him to pull these coaches is a miracle in of itself…
