Except Pruitt had never been a college HC when Tennessee hired him. Not apples to apples. Napier's likely more of a Kirby Smart/Mario Cristobal type guy. It's how you run a program, not just being a recruiter.

Napier is much more established and knows how to run a program. His track record is much more proven than other former HC's in the SEC that were hired with very little college HC experience. Hugh Freeze was at Arky St for 1 year, then was hired at Ole Miss. Gus was at Arky St for 1 year then we hired him.

Napier has proven at Louisiana that he has a system. It's not entirely dependent on coordinators. He lost his OC/o-line coach from last year Rob Sale who went to the NFL. In fact, Napier has 6 new assistants on his staff this year and still went 11-1.

We will get to see. Great thing about all of this.

Wow, sounds like an ass.  Why would you ever start an interview talking about money, before you even decide if you like each other.  Your goal as an interviewee is to make the interviewer love and want you.  If you do that, they will generally pay for you.

It happened. I'm sure they started with the usual pleasantries but when the tar hit the road it went that way. Pretty sure that his side was buying into the so called fact that AU's search was going sideways. Something the search never did.

It's not the comparison you're making, but I do find it weird, from our Admin perspective, Napier was laughed out of town for 6mm but we were super comfortable with a guy from Boise with zero connections to this area for 5mm a year.

Laughed out of town? He started the interview saying he wanted 6 million and that was firm. AU said, thanks but no thanks. Let's don't be disingenuous here.

Never said he would be a good coach. I said he is an hot commodity. Unless you have SEC experience with good results how would you validate who is a good coach based on your standards? My point is before you make blanket statements at least know the guys background, but you  do you. Also, he has a 38-12 record as a head coach. See what I MEAN? I suggest you read more on some of the firsts he has also produced at that university.

I don't know if you could say he was a hot commodity. Sure he got the UF job but was passed up by plenty of teams the past few years. LSU said not thanks. He is a Jeremy Pruitt type of guy. Know even less X's and O's. He a recruiter.

    I really like Napier. It

seems like a huge risk , huge reward tbh. I know most UF fans want him.

Yep. He's a recruiter first. You would dang sure have some inroads in Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia for sure with Napier. That is why he is high on UF's list. UF is trying to swing for the fence with this hire. I'm pretty sure the the Ole Ball coach is heavily involved.

Napier is my #1 choice although it may be too late now even if we pull the plug on Harsin. We should have hired Napier last year. Now he's a hot commodity and we'd have to pay even more for him this year than what he wanted last year.

According to WarDamnEagleWDE, Napier wanted $6 million and we passed on him last year. I'd be willing to bet it's going to take $7 million this year to land Napier since multiple big name SEC schools have him as a target. Jimmy Sexton is Napier's agent. So Napier is going to get $$$ whoever lands him this year.

For 7 million or even 4 million I'd pass on Napier. He is a fall back guy at UF. Sure he is being pushed as the "guy" but there are several names above him.

I damn sure thought Harsin was going to be that guy. I wanted Mario but things happened out of AU's and even Mario's control last year. Harsin came in saying the right things but this thing started to go south starting with the Merry Flipmas. From there just one blunder after another. Really disappointing so far.

    Sour? no. But disappointed.

I thought a coach who played QB and an OC that played QB would know that a fade route to the corner from the 2 with a WR that is not built or shows he is a go to clutch WR, should not have been the first option. Certainly they know that is a low percentage pass option.

What did they see that even after a TO, they thought that was their best chance. Was it executed wrong which resulted in their DB standing their waiting for Hudson and simply locked him up easily.

It was a scripted play per Harsin. If so, why burn the TO. After the timeout, you still do it. Looked like a moment too big for Harsin. Discouraging and a little scary moving forward. Coming out of the half with a trick play? Damn.

I think you by and large have excellent posts but this aint it dude. Gus gets routed from this game 10 times out of 10. We were also 10/17 on third down. When was the last time Gus put up third down numbers like that on the road for Auburn against a competent team? We weren't even that good on third down in 2014 when we rang up 44 on Alabama.

I was being sarcastic on the Gus comment. But that was a Gus esq performance on offense. Didn't pay 30 million in cash to get rid of Gus to have Harsin go Gus on Saturdays.  86 plays and Tank / Hunter had 36 carries I believe? Wow.

Are you starting to sour on Harsin?  Do you still like him as our coach long term?

Sour? A little. That was just awful game planning and adjusting by Harsin and staff. Given they used almost 3 weeks of prep for this game. They looked lost Saturday and the moment too big for them.

Name one positive that you saw or will take away from the PSU loss.

To me, one of the best things I saw yesterday was the lack of effect that the hostile crowd had on the team.  They weren't intimidated in any way.

Tank and Hunter. Pretty much it. Damn sure isn't Harsin and his staff.

    Welcome brother.

But seriously, it's an awful team but he's never looked this good. I don't want to take a ton away from this. He had some slight pressure and stepped up a few times. Had kept a solid base and looks different. Some passes could have been more accurate, but they gave all been catchable.

Hopefully he keeps building on this. Next week is a worse team, so it's practice until it matters at PSU

This is exactly what you want and need from a game like this. Execution.
